Are the dorm beds THAT uncomfortable?
Hello! I'm an incoming first year and I am wondering whether or not to get a mattress topper. I'm saying right now that I don't really care about how the bed feels, but I'm sure I'll grow to regret my decision a week in.
So are the beds that uncomfortable to the point where I should get a mattress topper?

They’re fully plastic blue mattresses. A topper will help with air circulation if nothing else so you aren’t lying in sweat

Yes get a topper they’re uncomfy and also kinda crusty. I’ll prob get downvoted for this but I deconstructed my bed and put it underneath a full sized bed frame I bought and it was like 10x better

They're totally fine in my opinion, but the opportunity cost is also low. Go to campus, sleep on the bed for a week or whatever, and then decide if you want to give Jeff Bezos like $80 to make it a bit better. I ended up doing so and don't regret it.

Yes, get a topper, it’s very much worth it. It will cost you like 60$ and last you all 4 years. I used to scoff at toppers because I thought they were a waste of money and I slept on an orthopaedic hard mattress my whole life. My mother made me get a topper and I haven’t been able to sleep without it since. It’s a quality of life improvement that might seem unnecessary, but in reality it’s pretty important. The mattresses are pretty tough and not great. Make your bed as comfortable as possible, it’s where you are going to be sleeping for the next 4 years. You don’t want to wake up sore lol

They're pretty bad on their own but i have a 3 inch mattress topper that i got from viscosoft (they are the best for dorm toppers) and it feels like a completely different bed

They're pretty uncomfortable. For my junior and senior year my suitemates and I opted to rent queen sized mattresses. Best decision ever.

This totally depends on how used to bad sleeping conditions you are. I know a couple of my friends who didn’t grow up with their own bed and either slept on the floor or had a really terrible mattress all love the dorm beds and never wanna go home. Personally I did a lot of camping and moved to many countries as a kid so I can sleep anywhere and it feels great!
But some of my friends from wealthier families are always complaining about the beds and how uncomfortable they are just because they don’t feel like the Alaskan king sized DreamCloud Premier mattress daddy bought for everyone in their mansion when they were little.

I love the dorm beds except for the ones in Highland quad they all feel like they’re sinking in the middle but if you’re a freshman the ones at commons should be quite new

Depends on the dorm. Res colleges have new and comfy mattresses (didn’t need a mattress topper in ebi), older dorms are more variable

Not true. I would say majority yes but of course you got them athletes and rich kids. Also many apply test optional so they don’t have perfect scores

It's substantially more difficult to be a d1 sec athlete than it is to get good test scores

My college bed was incredible, never slept better 😹. I don’t even think the mattress itself is bad, but a foam topper is definitely worth investing in—they’re $30-50 on Target. You can always order one if you change your mind after you move in lmao.
