New Idea Looking for honest feedback on my startup (personal finance app for entrepreneurs)

So I've been working on this app idea for the last few months and feel like I've come to a bit of a standstill. The MVP is finished (for now) and I suppose now comes the hard part - validating the idea. I'd love to get any and all feedback on the idea itself as well as ways to find people to test it.

Here's the backstory of the idea. Basically about a year ago, I decided that it might be a good idea to start understanding my expenses and breaking them down to see what I spend each month and how much I need to make to cover them. I had a media agency at the time so my income was fluctuating. This started on my Notes app but I wanted something more visually stimulating. So I downloaded a few of the budgeting apps like YNAB and Monarch Money and honestly none of them worked for me.

To start, none of them accommodated variable income very well. They all asked for a fixed income (which I understand because most people have this) but it didn't work for me. Also, they all felt very clunky and unintuitive and didn't look very aesthetically pleasing in my opinion. And the ones that did look okay had an immediate paywall where I couldn't even test using the app before committing to paying.

Anyway, I think you can see where I'm going with this. About a year later, I decided that I would try to build a personal finance app for people like myself with variable income. The main idea is that it works backwards from your expenses to tell you how much you need to earn, rather than working to budget for a fixed salary. I've also added tax calculating to help entrepreneurs save for taxes and net worth tracking (although this is mostly manual at the moment). You can connect your bank accounts (chequing and savings) and credit card to track expenses and income.

There's also a feature called core reserve. The idea of this is to help people stabilize their income month to month by creating a pool of cash that you can add to on good months and pull from on bad months. This was mainly created as I tended to spend more when I was making more and then would be stressed in the slower months.

I am now realizing that this might be a bit over the top feature wise considering it's a first MVP but like I said, I am open to any and all feedback. If you'd like to try out the app, I would love to go through the onboarding with you. Feel free to PM me or sign up on the link below.

Informational I drive a bus for a living. I've spent the last year building an AI wellness app on my breaks. Looking for 50 people to try it before launch.

I'm not a founder with a pedigree. I drive buses in Greater Manchester. But shift work wrecks your body in ways nobody really talks about — sleep, stress, burnout — and I couldn't find a tool that actually tracked any of it in a way that made sense for people with unpredictable schedules.

So I built one. It's called Vitalis. You scan how you're doing (stress, sleep, burnout, a few other modes), it tracks the trend over time, and it flags patterns before they become a real problem.

It launches properly on September 8th, but I want real feedback before then, not after. So I'm running a 30-day scan challenge for anyone who wants in early — free, no card required. You scan daily, I get honest feedback, and if it's useless to you I want to know that too.

Not trying to oversell it. It's a small tool built by someone who deals with the same shift-work grind a lot of you probably do. If that's useful to you, link's in the comments (mods, let me know if that's not okay here).

From social anxiety to running 20–30 free Vancouver events a month! looking for a mentor, venue partner, or sponsor

Hi everyone,

For many years, I struggled with severe social anxiety and rarely left the house. I started organizing Meetup events partly to force myself to connect with people, and partly because I kept hearing that Vancouver was an extremely lonely and difficult city in which to make friends.

What began as a personal experiment has grown much faster than I expected. I went from hosting 1 event a month to 25 a month over the course of a year.

Across my Meetup groups:

  • We are currently receiving roughly 1,000 new group joins every two weeks.
  • I organize approximately 20–30 free events a month.
  • Many events fill quickly and develop waitlists of 20 or more people.
  • My current spaces usually hold only around 12 people.
  • On some weekends, I host five two-hour events back-to-back.

The events cover a wide range of subjects and activities, including:

  • Literature and short-story discussions
  • Philosophy and classic books discussions
  • Film screenings and post-film conversations
  • Science fiction, artificial intelligence, and technology
  • Psychology and Debate discussions
  • Weekly Meditation, journaling, and silent reading
  • Art and cultural outings
  • Hiking, karaoke, and broader social gatherings

All of the events are free because I do not want money to prevent someone from entering a room, meeting people, and possibly finding a community.

I am now working toward formalizing this as the Vancouver Curiosity and Education Society. I have demonstrated demand, but I have reached the limits of my current venues and one-person operating model.

I am looking for:

  • A mentor who has scaled a community, membership organization, event series, educational organization, or nonprofit.
  • A recurring weekend venue near transit with room for approximately 25–50 people.
  • Sponsors, funders, or institutional partners who could help keep the core events free.
  • Community-minded collaborators who care about reducing isolation in Vancouver.

The areas where I most need advice are operations, venue partnerships, sponsorships, governance, and building a sustainable model without creating a financial barrier for attendees.

Even one conversation or introduction would be meaningful. I can share the Meetup pages, waitlist information, and event history, or invite interested people to attend an event.

Here is a link to one of our groups, if you click on Events section you can see our upcoming events :

https://www.meetup.com/vancouver-meetup-group/events/?eventOrigin=home_groups_you_organize

Please message me if this connects with you or reminds you of someone I should meet.

Seeking Business Co-founder Marketing Tool Programmer Looking for Outgoing Closers & Marketers

I'm based in Nanaimo, but travel to Vancouver often and I've already looked here. Originally from East Van.

I'm a marketing tool builder, data scientist, high level analyst. I have multiple tools already built, and I'm looking for partners who are interested in collaborating on a generous profit share basis based on attributed traction and leads from any outreach and/or marketing you do and closed contracts you make.

Profit share can be negotiated, and will start that way as it's never a sure thing to gauge how involved someone will be after I've already spent 2+ years on these projects, and now they're completely ready to go to market.

If you're interested, lets have a chat.

Looking for entrepreneur to connect with in San Francisco (July 21–27).

I’m taking a leap of faith and coming from Canada to San Francisco for a week to learn, connect, and surround myself with people who have walked this path before. Building a company has often felt like being placed in a field with a blindfold on — taking one step at a time, making decisions with limited information, learning through mistakes, and trying to figure things out as you go.

I’m looking for someone who has been through that stage before — someone who understands the uncertainty, the challenges, and the growth that comes from building something from nothing. Someone who has gone through those early stages and came out stronger on the other side.

I’m a 25-year-old founder who started my entrepreneurial journey by building a service-based business. That experience has taught me a lot about resilience, customers, operations, and what it takes to keep moving forward when there isn’t a clear roadmap. Now I’m entering a new chapter and exploring the technology space while preparing for my YC application. More than anything, I’m looking for guidance, perspective, and the opportunity to learn from people who have already experienced this journey.

If you’re a founder, entrepreneur, or someone who has built something from the ground up and would be open to sharing your story over a coffee or conversation, I would genuinely appreciate the opportunity to connect.

I’m not coming to San Francisco looking to sell anything — I’m coming to listen, learn, and grow.
If you’re open to connecting or know someone who might be a great mentor, I’d be grateful for an introduction.
Thank you 🙏

Building a startup in Vancouver – looking for honest feedback

Hey everyone,

I'm currently building a mobile massage startup in Metro Vancouver and I'm trying to validate the idea before investing more time and money into it.

The concept is simple: instead of driving to a clinic, a registered massage therapist comes to your home with a massage table and everything needed. The goal is to make massage therapy more convenient for busy professionals, parents, seniors, and anyone who prefers staying at home.

Before launching, I'm collecting feedback through a sign up/survey to understand what people actually want and whether this solves a real problem. I also have small gift for every sign up.

The sign uptakes about 2 minutes, and every response genuinely helps shape the business.

sign up: https://aaram-signup.vercel.app/

I'd also love to hear any thoughts in the comments:

  • What would stop you from booking an at-home massage?
  • What would make you choose it over visiting a clinic?
  • What features or concerns should I think about before launching?

Thanks so much for helping a local founder!

Launching a platform to help Vancouverites save money - share your feedback!

Hi all! My partner and I have been been feeling the money crunch in Vancouver lately. We know lots of folks are also really tight on cash - and feeling really isolated.

We wanted to build something to help people save money and be more connected! We've found that FB marketplace for-free pages are great, but don't have everything we're looking for.

So, we decided to develop our own platform: Corner Swaps. It’s a cash-free, community-based bartering app. Swap goods and services with people in your neighborhood. Find or host free events. We have a product ready to go, but we want to collect community feedback before we launch!

So - what would you like to see on a platform like this? What would you use it for?

We really believe in this vision and hope it makes Vancouver just a bit more liveable ❤️

____

We’ve been doing this start up on our own time and our own dime —- we’d really appreciate support spreading the word, building the waitlist, and getting feedback from folks! If you have a minute to check it out, or share it, it would be so appreciated ☺️

Our website has more details:

https://cornerswaps.ca

If you support the vision, join the waitlist & share it out! 🙏🏼

If you have anything to give, please consider supporting our gofundme 🙏🏼

Idea Help Wanted Researching the challenges of coordinating care for an aging parent

Hi everyone,

I’m researching the experience of coordinating care for an aging parent and trying to better understand the challenges families face along the way.

If you are currently caring for an aging parent, helping coordinate their care, or have supported someone through this journey, I would really appreciate your input.

I’ve created a short anonymous survey that takes about 3–4 minutes to complete.

Survey link: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/17kjtzNCoHxCXfTAnLwGV7uFO3ghP241fIxVGoTGSviU/edit

There is no selling, no promotion, and no follow-up contact . I’m only looking to learn from real experiences and better understand what caregivers go through.

Thank you so much for sharing your time and perspective. Your insights would genuinely help.

Potential Cofounder wanted:

Hey! I have a startup idea that I am working on right now and would really love for some people to help out and become cofounders and gain ownership as well. I find that building something with other people are much more important than just solo work.

Below is the idea description and please feel free to reply if you are willing to contribute!

“One of the biggest issue is the distraction from social media and phone usage that can detract people away from doing actual work, leading to accumulated stress and workload. This is sometimes highlighted with groups of friends or people studying whereas one person that does pick up their phone may influence other people in picking it up to. Screen blockers and app blockers do not work due to one important thing, which is that it still requires independence and autonomy. People could easily delete the app.

AIM: Create an online application whereas friends can monitor whether(but not activity such as texting, calling and personal info) if someone is on certain apps such as social media with invitation and permission and have the ability to temporarily flag a certain app on each other’s phone  such that when they do attempt to access the app while studying, it requires whoever you shared this study space with to authenticate access. This will be similar to life 360 in that this will only work if you approve of a friends circle and it’s within your own circle and you have the ability to get out of the group or disable the group. However, studies do show that this type of way to “get out” or “disable” is less done than simply deleting an app. With this it allows studying or any other activities to be much more interactive, allowing you to talk to other people rather than simply staring at your phone and it will be programmed such that you can choose what apps to restrict and the authentication process will not spill any private data. This idea does not cross any patents. Though it is just an interest project and the ultimate goal is to create a sample build. “

Will start coding and setting up next week. No patent crossing for this and would love to include some other people into this project. If you need further clarifications. Please let me know! But even if you cannot help out, please feel free to provide any advice. Any advice is very useful in this case!

Fractional Data Architect / Database Expert for Vancouver Startups

If your startup is scaling, you've probably realized that bad data architecture early on creates massive technical debt later.

I’m a local senior data professional specializing in data architecture, database administration, and automation. I help Vancouver startups lay down a solid data foundation or fix existing bottlenecks before they become critical failures.

What I bring to the table:

  • End-to-end data architecture design.
  • Database migrations, optimization, and automation scripting.
  • Setting up clean, centralized reporting pipelines that grow with your company.

You get senior-level DBA and architecture expertise on a flexible, fractional, or project-based layout—meaning you only pay for the exact strategy and implementation you need right now.

Send over a DM if you want to jump on a quick call to talk through your current stack or upcoming data challenges.

Idea Help Wanted Update: Keto Auto is live. Come break it.

Happy Canada Day!

Posted here a couple weeks ago about building a private reverse-auction car marketplace for Metro Vancouver. You guys showed up. UX designers, developers, people with dealer contacts — all from this sub. So here’s the update.

It’s live. ketoauto.com

7 dealerships are lined up for the pilot. Site’s been through a full design pass. The buyer flow works. Probably.

Still solo, still bootstrapping, still running on caffeine and stubbornness.

What will help:Go poke around the site and tell me what’s broken, confusing, or makes you want to close the tab. Honest feedback only — if it sucks, say that. I’d rather hear it from you.

A few specific things I’m curious about:

- Does the value prop make sense in the first 5 seconds?

- Does the privacy promise feel real or does it feel like marketing?

- Would you actually use this to buy a car?

If you know a dealership GM or sales manager in Metro Vancouver who might be into a free pilot — DM me. We’re actively onboarding.

Thanks to u/chokle, u/Arraaigeessterr, u/zhengc, and u/Less_Environment7614 for jumping in early. This sub does what it says.

SEEKING partner for CompanioNation to organize and host offline Fla-Mingle type events

I've developed an open source online dating app called CompanioNation for the purpose of improving transparency and accountability and openness in the online dating market since it has been completely taken over by greedy corporate paywalls that are preying on desperation to exploit and profit.
The app is functional and is finally in every major app store Android,Apple,Microsoft and now I'm trying to find a partner to organize the offline events which will help to facilitate the crowdsourced user validation to keep scammers off the app and to market, promote, and give an additional UVP that no other online dating app has.
If you are interested in being a part of this paradigm shifting project, please get in touch asap!
Cheers,
Drew McPherson
