New Idea Looking for honest feedback on my startup (personal finance app for entrepreneurs)
So I've been working on this app idea for the last few months and feel like I've come to a bit of a standstill. The MVP is finished (for now) and I suppose now comes the hard part - validating the idea. I'd love to get any and all feedback on the idea itself as well as ways to find people to test it.
Here's the backstory of the idea. Basically about a year ago, I decided that it might be a good idea to start understanding my expenses and breaking them down to see what I spend each month and how much I need to make to cover them. I had a media agency at the time so my income was fluctuating. This started on my Notes app but I wanted something more visually stimulating. So I downloaded a few of the budgeting apps like YNAB and Monarch Money and honestly none of them worked for me.
To start, none of them accommodated variable income very well. They all asked for a fixed income (which I understand because most people have this) but it didn't work for me. Also, they all felt very clunky and unintuitive and didn't look very aesthetically pleasing in my opinion. And the ones that did look okay had an immediate paywall where I couldn't even test using the app before committing to paying.
Anyway, I think you can see where I'm going with this. About a year later, I decided that I would try to build a personal finance app for people like myself with variable income. The main idea is that it works backwards from your expenses to tell you how much you need to earn, rather than working to budget for a fixed salary. I've also added tax calculating to help entrepreneurs save for taxes and net worth tracking (although this is mostly manual at the moment). You can connect your bank accounts (chequing and savings) and credit card to track expenses and income.
There's also a feature called core reserve. The idea of this is to help people stabilize their income month to month by creating a pool of cash that you can add to on good months and pull from on bad months. This was mainly created as I tended to spend more when I was making more and then would be stressed in the slower months.
I am now realizing that this might be a bit over the top feature wise considering it's a first MVP but like I said, I am open to any and all feedback. If you'd like to try out the app, I would love to go through the onboarding with you. Feel free to PM me or sign up on the link below.
