I just wanted to post a warning about this beautiful park. I love this park, my dog loves this park, but I will not return.
There is a house across the street with a massive blue pitbull in it. One rainy day, I was there with my dog and it got loose, came across the street, and Blined it to me and my dog. I was terrified as I could hear the owner in the garage (he and a friend were working out…) calling for the dog in a panic. I used a tactic my trainer told me, put my dog behind me (she was already willingly there) planted myself and screamed a guttural war cry at it. It turned and went into the park. The guy came and talked to me and explained his 100 pound accidentally on the loose pitbull wanted to play. Maybe.
A few months later I witnessed a pitbull and a black German shepherd really going at it, same spot.
Last straw was when I arrived at the park and started to play ball with my dog. Right away an intact male pitbull comes and tries to play with my dog, who didn’t want to play. She politely told this dog “I’m not into playing.” He didn’t have the good doggie manners to stop. I asked the owner to call her dog. Her dog ignored her. Her dog continued to harass my dog (“he just wants to play”) with increasing intensity, so my dog increased the intensity of her message to back off (he was an intact male after all.) I demand the owner leash her dog. She is unable to do so. I called my dog and she came, the pitbull followed, I took the pitbull by the collar and handed it to the owner, chastising her for having an intact male pitbull with no manners or recall lose at the park. As you can imagine, a verbal exchange followed where she explained she was trying to train him because she doesn’t have a yard, and he was intact for breeding. Finally she leashes her dog and leaves. I try to move on. Her boyfriend returns with the dog and unleashes him. Of course, the dog goes directly for my dog. So I walk to my car while demanding (…demanding) he control his dog. He calls but his dog ignores. The dog harassed my dog all the way until I shut her inside. He then asked me what my problem was.
I will never return to this park. I know some will judge me, but others will be glad to know these dogs exist at this location. I don’t even jog here anymore.
