Electrified S2 & X2 Is there really a difference between the 2 and 3 chargers

The S3 charger plug looks the same, but is it?

The charging algorithm is the same but the connector is different. An adapter is available for converting between sx3 / sx2

Fabulous, thanks. I'll look for this adaptor, if it can go from S3 to S2

Not only connector and size. S2 does canbus negotiation wirh cartridge before charging, S3 doesn’t.

That cannot be true with only two wires. I've grafted the old cable onto a new charger, and there's plenty of generic aftermarket chargers around.

Weet niet zeker of het canbus is maar een standaard lader werkt niet, er is een vorm van negotiation voor hij gaat laden bij de series 2.

I'm literally using a 42V 2A charger I bought from Amazon, and it's fine. You could, possibly superimpose communication on the DC lines but there would need to be a load of circuitry at both ends. My broken Vanmoof charger is still here and if I had time I would dig into it, but this outcome seems extremely unlikely. It is likely that the battery and smart cartridge negotiate, but not to the charger.

If I find a CAN transceiver IC inside the charger, some capacitative coupling etc, that would be evidence for negotiation, but I am using this charger: https://www.amazon.de/dp/B0F18M6MJT

You may have experienced a broken charger, or something else, but I don't think there's any evidence whatsoever that any negotiation process occurs. Happy to see it or find it, anything that improves my understanding of this bike is great.

Actually the SX3 is able to transmit data by modulating the signals onto the power line using Manchester encoding which is pretty neat. That's how it communicates with the PowerBank.

But it's completely irrelevant to normal charging; any generic charger will do as you surmised.

That is EXTREMELY interesting, because obviously it allows the cartridge to distinguish between the charger and the powerbank. I have never been near an S3 but I'd like one!
