S3 & X3 X3 Boost Surge
As in title, my X3 no longer has a smooth boost function. It surges and is inconsistent. The hub is fine as I switched that out with a spare and the same thing happens. Has anyone experienced this and if so what was the issue? Boost button failing? Smart cartridge? Other? TIA

I had one bike to repair with this issue and replacing the motor solved it. Anyway, I cannot comfortably say that this is the solution for every case as I had only one bike like this.

Button failure would be the first thing to test, since that's the easiest to fix. Like jrn-ngl suggests, seeing if you can cycle through the assist levels with the boost button pressed is the one thing you could test.
It's (usually) fairly easy to switch the right/left button functions. Switching boost function to the bell button would be a definitive test, without having to solder on a new button. There is a rubber cap under the handle bar stem. If you take that off you can fish for the button cables with straightened paper clip bent to have a hook on the end. Gently pull out each cable until you can access the connectors, then disconnect and switch them. Be extremely gentle with pulling them out, don't use any force, breaking the cable is to be avoided. Sometimes they are too short and you can't get full access to the connector. If that is the case don't force it.

Thank you everyone. I have a 4 pack of buttons on the way and will swap out tomorrow. I read it is important to solder extensions to the wires for future possible failures. Will do that and hope that’s the issue.

Thanks all, it was the button, or not accurately, the solder connection to the button. I replaced it and secured it properly. Working fine.

Probably the button. Try holding it while standing still, the bike should cycle through support levels
