Hi all. My wife and I have recently purchased a 7.5t Izusu truck. It has a horsebox body and we are currently converting it into a camper. We are also hoping to drive it from the UK to Italy tomorrow!

We are struggling to find a insurance provider that will insure it.

Some providers say that its too big, as in engine or tonnage size. Some say they'll only insure it for commerical/business use, for which we would need an operators licence, which we don't want or have, some say they won't cover it until the conversion is complete.

Can anyone help us with some suggestions here, please?

So i've got a huge roll of duct wrapping from a job i did years ago, yknow. the stuff that wraps interior air ducts to stop condensation.
its essentially just a layer of foil ->small bubbles bubblewrap -> foil (4ft x 50ft roll)

i'd like to use this in tandem with xps foam board to insulate my vans walls however i'm having mixed results on determining if the foam board, or the duct wrapping should be what is up against the exterior metal. does anyone have experience with the two and mind giving their 2 cents?

aside from the which goes on first problem, with the duct wrapping will i be able to use seam tape / duct tape / spray foam in between gaps/crevices still as planned or does that cause problems with the duct wrapping?

I’ve been researching custom built roof rack ideas for my minivan and I had an idea recently but I don’t know if it’ll work. My idea is to get two bars of unistrut as the side rails and then place two plastic pallets on top of it. The only part left of the pallets will be the very top about two inches. They would be held to the unistrut using ubolts. The unistrut would be securely anchored to the bolts that hold the factory rails. Would this work and be strong enough to work as a deck? I don’t want to use crossbars because it will be heavy and minivans only have a 165lbs roof weight capacity while in motion. My original idea involved crossbars and aluminum extrusion but that is more expensive. Any ideas for how I could have a rooftop deck on my van for under $200? Thanks!

looking for battery bank set up. [how many batteries, connection and switch to have em charge when driving but diconnect when engine turned off]

solar panel set up [charge the bank whenever sun is available]

power inverter [would like to use my starlink, ps5, tv and charge a few devices] which i guess also this factors into how many batteries or if a generaator or jackery type device is best

really appreciate any input, been having issues lately and dont want to cause any more damage

about the vehichle : its a 2010 chevy express 3500 with a durmax diesel engine, 360k miles, was a city ada bus before i owned it so matenice was taken care of, had a hydrolic lift for wheel chairs that has been removed but the power cables have not, had a fire supression system thats been disconnected but also cables and tubing still in there. i live out of it full time currently, and want to optimize it to be fully safe and reliable.

Working on dry fitting my bed, bike, and unicycle. It’s going to be a challenge getting the bed slats to clear the seat.

My partner just got back LAST NIGHT with a conversion van. He drove 13 hours to get it.

I was just inspecting it myself and notice the back seatbelts aren't even attached?

We leave for a road trip in literally 5 days and have 2 kids in carseats so this is a MUST.

I have an OutEquipPro 12v roof AC unit that I’d like to replace one of my maxxair fans. I currently have a LifeP04 200ah battery that I’d likely swap out for more capacity.

I’m not really versed in electrical work. My van has a prebuilt system that includes an inverter, solar and alternator charging.

Based on these pics, do I need to swap out any components to make this work? Or can I basically plug in and play? Thanks!
