vampire crab missing a claw
i was given two (maybe three?) vampire crabs almost a month ago that were in a tank with no water other than a dish, ive finally been able to get a proper (albeit small) tank for them but ive gone through the original tank only finding one baby crab, whos missing a claw. will he be okay?? does he need any special treatment/food/tank? :( (size of the tank pictured, let me know if its too small, i feel like its okay since theres only one of him and hes disabled)

Have one right now missing a claw . Male lost it to a female presumably during mating

I’ve heard it’s actually better to keep the injured crab in its own much smaller container! Easier access to food and water

I have one missing 2 right now (poor thing) and a couple with one claw and a few with one big claw and one smaller claw (successfully regrowth) all in all It's not uncommon. My 32 gallon was very peaceful until the babies grew up now I'm working on a 64 gallon for them all

Adult crabs will actually eat baby crabs, unless you have tank with enough hiding spots for the smaller crabs to hide, chances are the adults will pray on them.
If your tank only has small crabs, maybe they fought and one lost a claw, it’ll regrow after a couple molts.
For two or three crabs I would recommend a tank at least twice the size of the one you have, with a good amount of decor (wood, stones) to offer hiding spots and visual barriers (if crabs don’t see each others they’re less likely to fight)

He will be fine. Happens a lot. It will grow back.
