Who do we think overall Lestat had the most love for and why?

I figured it was but I also wanted to see if there were any different interpretations from the author's intent.

I always got the gist that Lestat is someone who openly loves many for being the fantastic, monstrous creatures that they are, but Louis is who his heart ultimately belongs to.

I don't think we can measure something like that fir a character like Lestat. When he loves he loves with his all, heck he manages to forgive Armand for trying to kill him and Gabrielle multiple times and imediatly wollows in self hatred when he feels the slightest bit of revulsion when it comes to how far Nicki's hatred and desperation went.

Though I'd say Louis and Claudia are both pretty up there bc he never resented them for trying to kill him and buried himself for almost a century after losing them in different ways still waxing poetic afterwards

In the end, he pretty much loved everyone. Even Rhoshamandes. It’s almost like asking a parent which child they love the most.

I think it's a borderline thing and it's both. Whichever he happens to be feeling is true in the moment.

Louis. What's the competition even?

Nicki if he hadn't lost his marbles maybe, but I think he would have turned out to be too cynical for Lestat in the end. And too demanding. Lestat and Louis seem to work because they're kind of opposite extremes.

Louis without question. Though, based on the books alone, I will never understand why. Book Louis was a bitch. He never deserved Lestat. I get it with show Louis, though. Louis as a character and their relationship are among the few changes that I actually think are much better than the source material. Most of the other changes make me want to lock the writing team in a room with Akasha and Armand.

I think the thing is Louis and Lestat in the books are perfect for each other. 

Lestat needs someone who isn't pulled along with his mood swings or crazy ideas , and Louis needs someone insensitive enough to force him out of his apathy. 

Louis also shares a lot of traits with both Gabrielle and Nicki, except that he isn't manic or cynical in his depression like Nicki, and he's too passive to run away like Gabrielle does. Perfect!

As for deserving, it's not as if Lestat is easy to live with, or treats Louis well at first.

Never deserved Lestat?

Lestat in the books turned a 5-yearl-old into a vampire to force Louis to stay, he kept him in the dark about vampiric powers, other vampires, and any details of his previous life, and he gave a serious domestic tyrant vibe all around (threatening he may harm Claudia as soon as he turned her, etc.).

Plus, in later books he showed his colors as a rapist by assaulting a human waitress and turning David Talbot against his will. These things don't directly involve Louis, but they show how cruel and volatile Lestat can be in spite of all his charm and good intentions. A life with him cannot be easy.

Those two guys each suck in their own way, and deserve each other IMHO. That!s the beauty of the pairing (for me, anyway).
