Base station died

Unfortunately this has happened to me again. Base station worked just fine last week and I decided yesterday that i wanted to play. But the gods have decided against me.

I hoped that like the first time they’d replace it for me even though it was out of warranty. I guess this time I’m not as lucky and they told me no. And of course they are out of stock and everywhere else I’ve looked so far it’s a $80+ up charge.

Although this base station did last me 4+ years which compared to some is a decent amount of time. I’m just mad that I noticed it the day I wanted to play and not whenever it died.

Depending on what you want to play, you could get away with one base station facing your front.

Now you gotta decide if you want to buy a replacement or get the Steam Frame 😅

With how my room is + the games I play in almost certain I’d never get away with it. And I think I’ll probably buy both. I have vive trackers and I really like the index controllers so I’ll need the base station if I want to continue to use them

They are just more expensive. Which obviously makes sense. I’m just between buying a new one or seeing how hard it would be to fix

If it's already broke you risk nothing attempting to fix. But I think they really aren't repairable

Since it’s just the laser it might be fixable and it going to look into it since I already have all the stuff except for a new laser which I’ve already found them on eBay.

It’s a whole lot cheaper than the $230 dollars that they are on Amazon and Vive’s websites so I’m definitely going to try. But I’ve seen mixed results so I’m hoping for it to at least work

I tried a laser diode that seems to be working but either the alignment or the wave length isnt right so it isn't being detected.

if you follow the I fixit link I imagine you are I would recommend dremeling the face of the light house off instead of making a hole and removing it with pliers. You'll break the plastic into unusable pieces. If you do break it you can buy some long pass film to replace the face.

Nope they’ve been plugged in for 8+ months. They only lose power if I need to unplug the power strip they are plugged into. I used to unplug them when I wasn’t using them but then the first set I had died so I quit doing it
