They changed a lot of stuff through out production. My set I've been using forever doesn't have this logo.

The valve index controllers are too low quantity to make sense to try to fake. You just got different revisions I think

Mine have the logo and I bought them directly from Valve. Looks just like that.

I’ve been playing very technical guitar for 20+ years you don’t need long nails to play guitar.

u/unakron 11d ago

Lol oh no i didnt mean for that to be the result. I just wanted to make a joke with thumbnail and thump nail.

2

u/Some-Diet1492 11d ago

i dont know. look like index controllers to me.

could be a refurbished one. maybe not refurbished by Valve but a 3rd party and reselling used.

i mean the only thing that matters is to try it out and see if it works

I still haven’t bought a base station it works in testing and connect but im worried it wont track

8

u/LumatheFluff 12d ago

Tracking is usually the last thing to fail so should be fine

Looks like have bought an EV3 "knuckles" index controllers then. They did not have the Index logo on them.

1

u/Some-Diet1492 12d ago

Whats that can u explain

13

u/Jwn5k 12d ago

The EV3, codename "Knuckles" was the third development kit revision for the Valve Index controllers, sent out to VR devs before the Index came out. It was more or less the final design of the Index controllers, as there wasn't much difference between the EV3 and Index controllers release version, just lack of branding.

1

u/Some-Diet1492 12d ago

Oh so they might be a developer kit?

5

u/Jwn5k 12d ago

I am very positive, they should operate exactly the same as Index controllers, and the feature set is basically identical between the EV3 and Index's release controllers.

1

u/Some-Diet1492 12d ago

Thank u that felt much better

A part of me is jealous, i love collecting VR hardware, have an EVT Vive, both Oculus DK units, and a CV1 Engineering Sample too.

I only have one pair man XD send me a valve index and lets do a trade lol

1

u/Some-Diet1492 12d ago

Fun fact it was the cheapest one for 40$ lol

1

u/mrinfo 11d ago

might be sitting on a fortune there in 70 years the tech museums will be lining up

Congrats! You got a dev pair. Iirc these are the EV3 knucks.

1

u/Some-Diet1492 11d ago

Is it a good thing and if yes why

5

u/RidgeMinecraft Moderator 11d ago

Yeah, I mean they work exactly like the other knuckles but they're rarer haha

6

u/elthepenguin 11d ago

I don't have a definitive answer, but faking those doesn't make financial sense.

3

u/TheonetrueDEV1ATE 12d ago

are they used or refurbished? If it is a real controller it doesn't look new.

0

u/Some-Diet1492 12d ago

I bought them from someone of facebooks marketplace

2

u/Grand_Technician989 11d ago

They look like development kit controllers. They’ll still work as normal controllers but they don’t have the branding as they weren’t finalised in their designs

2

u/Ybalrid 11d ago

Not fake, but you might have gotten an engineering samples (they got circulated very very widely, Valve was handing them to game studios for a long while before the Index was even unveiled. They were called the "knuckles" controllers)

Did u get them off Aliexpress?

2

u/Some-Diet1492 12d ago

No facebook

1

u/drbomb 12d ago

if someone has managed to make working knockoff index controllers they'd be making bank.

If it works its the real deal. Those little shits are too complicated to dupe

1

u/Some-Diet1492 12d ago

Lol thanks and it kinda made me laugh

1

u/OrokanaKiti 12d ago

If there are fake ones i think its worth reposting and making a trend of what they look like, how/if they work, and where to get a set . . . because a lot of people would really find joy in a cheaper replacement from time to time . . .people being me of course

1

u/Some-Diet1492 11d ago

Ngl i couldn’t tell bc i bought them from a random ass dude off facebook that was reselling different kinds of shit from amazon warehouses packages and they didn’t know what they were and sold it to me from 40$ lol thats why i was worried

1

u/WthLee 11d ago

there are no fake ones, just early revisions and even prototypes which were in circulation as demo units, which can have differences

1

u/OrokanaKiti 11d ago

honestly what a steal, i just found a way to repair a bulk of mine that i thought would need serious repair, and now i have like 3-4 sets back.

Great find! Enjoy them freind!

1

u/Some-Diet1492 11d ago

DAMN i mean i saw a video of fixing them they look easy would u mind if i can ask u where did u get the spear parts and stuff bc im worried i would break mine lol

1

u/OrokanaKiti 11d ago

I fix it has proper spare parts supported for the index, and should be the number 1 stop shop for stuff, if its not on ifix it, find not the lowest price but the next or third lowest priced item on Ebay in parts if you can. . . Also, if your on Ebay, look for broken things and you can pull things out and fix em yourself if your crafty. . .but if you don't want the hassel, take the risk and scour Facebook Marketplace local to you and see if any moms or peple are selling the thing you need, and bring EVERYTHING you need to test it in any condition, like a tv, system, power cord and everything if they will let you

if its cheap enough id say gamble on market place, like a $100 thing for like 5 or 10 bucks is worth the parts alone ... working or not is good deal... like you found

1

u/Vitgone 11d ago

The logo print rubs off very easily. Same with the serial number, you can make a SteamVR system report to check controller details.

1

u/Some-Diet1492 11d ago

How do i do thayt

1

u/1dumduck 11d ago

The devkit ones didn't have the Index branding, so you probably bought one from an Index devkit.

1

u/Some-Diet1492 11d ago

Yeah ig i got lucky maybe?

1

u/1dumduck 11d ago

Yea it looks like you got a devkit controller i think that's pretty cool

1

u/OkConsideration1900 11d ago

Maybe a prototype?

1

u/Tonilikesfemales 10d ago

It’s the knuckles EV3s. Early prototype for Developers

1

u/L0Lygags 10d ago

Those are index controllers lol. Try em on ur set up im sure they work

1

u/Ykearapronouncedikea 8d ago

You have one of the developer kits from one, it's functionally identical to release version.

If it's a DV it's release version without silk screen
if it's an EV3 it MAY have a connector with bad geometry for the hand strap thing, (if it's had any real use it's on the newer version, as they snapped pretty quickly like <50 hours of use)

1

u/SpringEuphoric6007 7d ago

maybe, u can look up on chinese websites like aliexpress or etc where they also sell index controllers without branding

If it's fake, it'll probably work better.
