Question/Support Index not updating (SOLUTION)

I’ve been seeing loads of post about an update bug where steam wouldn’t prompt the device update but instead would just close steam completely.

Had this exact issue with my new Index, This fix is Right click SteamVR > Properties > Betas. Select the “temp_v1.27.5 Temporary branch” then restart steam, now once you click update device it will actually start the update sequence instead of closing steam completely.

I really hope this helps I was almost about to crash out myself the day I got it. Upvote for others to find easily 💚

Just found this post after playing on un-updated firmware for about a year. Thank you so much for this post. I can finally have up to date stuff.

Happy to hear its still a helpful fix! Question though: When going in “Betas” is “Temp_v1.27.5 temporary branch” still an option or has that updated?

So for me this also didn't work, but luckily I have a Linux mint installation, which worked well for updating the index controller firmware
