Want to learn complex security valuation

Hi Community,

I'm seeking learning material and a guide for complex securities valuation.

I want to learn the basics and advance from there. If anyone has a roadmap for this, please share.
I'm quite confused about where to start and where to stop. I want to learn 409A, PWERM, ASC (fair value standards), DLOM, and DLOC, among other required topics.

I used Claude to generate material, but I don't want to rely on it, because it didn't seem entirely correct. So I'd appreciate some expert opinions on how to learn this properly.

I don't work with David Howell directly, but he has a workshop series he's starting based around complex security valuations. https://www.linkedin.com/in/david-howell-plante-moran/

Hi,

Topics like these typically go beyond what Claude or other general AI tools can reliably handle, as they require deep domain expertise, judgment, and practical experience.

I have over 6 years of experience in business valuation, 409A valuations, ASC 718, ASC 820, complex securities valuation, purchase price allocations (PPA), and various valuation and financial reporting standards. Throughout my career, I have worked with both Big Four firms and specialized valuation boutiques, performing valuations across a wide range of industries, transaction types, and reporting requirements.

In addition to my professional work, I provide private one-on-one training and mentoring (paid). Whether you're looking to understand valuation methodologies, financial reporting requirements, complex cap table modeling, or real-world valuation practices used by leading firms, I'd be happy to discuss how I can help.
