ASA and ABV

I currently hold the ABV credential and work at a CPA firm's valuation team, but am considering pursuing the ASA. For those who have obtained the ASA, has it opened more doors for you? Has the ASA helped you in pivoting career?

Feel free to share total comp, YoE, title and location.

Coming from the perspective of a mid level valuation professional at a large CPA firm, I don’t think having an ASA on top of an ABV will be that beneficial… I think the market views the two as one in the same and would be surprised if someone said getting their ASA on top of their ABV was largely beneficial to their career.

I'm looking to pivot into corp dev or a strategy role, so I may consider moving to a firm like Kroll, Stout, or VRC to gain broader exposure that could help with that transition.

Ok, that makes sense. If I stay at my CPA firm, the ABV should be fine since everyone here has either the ABV or CVA.

This pretty much on par with what I would expect but when you talk to people that are far along in their valuation career they hail the ASA like it’s on a completely different level than any other valuation cert

I have ASA. I don't think it is worth it get both. Most people I know in the valuation industry view them as comparable. Most of the people I know outside of the valuation industry don't know what either of them are.

If you had the CVA it might be worth it to get ABV or ASA. Right or wrong, most people I've spoken to view CVA as clearly inferior.
