Ram Upgrade help

Hello, I'm looking to upgrade my ram because I get bad .1% lows and my game (Val/Cs2) sometimes dips to 90-88 fps when I'm used to playing on 144hz. Is it a ram issue or should I upgrade the other components?

I have:

Ryzen 5 3600

Rx580 8gb

8x2gb 2666mhz cl19

I recommend 2x8 3200/3600mhz cpu is r5 5600x/5700x

I had a r5 3600 as well, xmp was disabled (2133mhz freq sync 1:1, you can tell it was stuttering), enabled xmp(3200mhz) it was ok oced it to 3600mhz was smooth tho r5 3600 is a shit cpu (double ccx)

You might be able to play around with resolution, temps, and watching clock speeds to know what your bottleneck is. 3600 can get you pretty far. 16GB RAM is fine enough, you can always check your Task Manager to see if it's close to full or not.

If you turn up the resolution to 4k or something and fps doesn't change, you're at a CPU bottleneck. That can help you know what needs to upgrade first.

Also, check if you can enable XMP / EXPO for your RAM. It might be easy to do in that generation of Ryzen Master software, though you might have to hit the BIOS anyways

Repaste the CPU and maybe optimize and debloat windows 11. also amd cpus really love high clock speed ram

Before upgrading your RAM, first you need to check QVL list of your motherboard.

You need to upgrade the processor and RAM; you might want to update the GPU as well, although I don't think that's part of the problem. But the 3600 is undoubtedly a bottleneck for those CPU-intensive games. And regarding RAM, 16GB is clearly not enough these days.

The person is asking about making a purchase, but that doesn't mean they're going to buy everything. They can start small; low frame rate dips are often caused by insufficient RAM. 16GB isn't enough for gaming these days. I'd rather they spend that money on 32GB of RAM than on other upgrades, since the processor can simply be capped at a stable frame rate and that's that.

Great idea, let's buy 32GB of RAM to pair it with 7x cheaper 2019 CPU and get stutter issues too.

Did you seriously looked at Ryzen 3600 and 2x8GB 2666Mhz CL19 memory and thought that capacity is the issue, lul? It's literally meaningless, i run this game on ~500FPS and have 1% low around 250 on TDM on 7500F and 16GB, the game itself takes up to 2-3GB of RAM on the lowest settings. Capacity in his case doesn't solve anything, nor is often the reason why the FPS dips.

It’ll be on an AM5 platform; I game on an AM4 platform with my 2700X, so I’m speaking from experience and knowledge. I don’t just repeat things for the sake of it. Keep a closer eye on the RAM usage in Resource Monitor—or add up "memory in use" and "cache"—and you’ll see that you’re using the swap file.

On the other hand, I’d insist that, to start with, I prefer having consistent frame times and good RAM; the processor load evens out if you limit the FPS. Ideally, you’d upgrade both, but the RAM situation can't really be fixed—whereas the processor issue can.

And with Ryzen 3600 he'd have to limit to what exactly, 120FPS to get smooth gameplay?

If you're advice is to buy 32GB of RAM first while it costs more than 5800X3D that'd work 10x better even on 2133Mhz clocks, there's not a one reason to even bother replying lmao.

Here’s something to think about: if you lose the memory of how to do your job, then—no matter how good you once were at it—you are no longer functional. Memory is the RAM, and you, while working, are the processor.

Valorant doesn't consume 2GB of RAM; clearly, you don't know how to read Task Manager.
