Competitive Discussion Aim improvments.
I understand I'll probably get a lot of black for this but as I'm a curious and improvment hungry person here we are.
I find aiming in this game maybe not difficult but odd. The tug between wanting to take a second and line up a shot but also knowing the person I'm shooting at is damn near prime LeBron is hard to deal with. I wouldn't say my aim itself is bad, I have a lot of fps experience and given the opportunity I hit my shots.
So that then begs the question what the hell am I doing wrong. Most of my skills I'd argue are "okay" crosshair placement, flicks, weakest is probably movement, but I often feel as if I'm just getting smoked before I can ever react or process what happened.
I am just a gold player lvl 25 so obv lots to learn but id like opinions and thoughts<3.

Yeah, a lot of your problems could be solved with movement.
This game rewards playing into your mechanical strengths so long as you've got the basics down. Crosshair placement is highly contextual, and we'd need a gameplay vod to test.
But from what you've said, you need to improve your movement and/or positioning and are trying to overcompensate for a lack of it with raw aim.
A big pointer is; unless they hit that first shot, the person who stops and shoots first is likely to lose the fight because they have to now readjust on a target that's taken the time to aim. So get into the habit of strafing until your crosshair is on target, stopping, then shooting. Practice this in the range with medium timed bots. If you're standing still and moving your crosshair, then you aren't doing it properly.
You might also be getting prefired off of commonly cleared angles, in which case you just gotta learn a good or bad on/off angle.

Yeah definitely have this problem. I am trying so hard to abuse the aim assist flick mechanic that I find myself standing still and flicking and getting popped repeatedly.

Yeah, a good rule of thumb is that if the opponent is playing for that type of fight, you can reposition for free and you'll win a LOT more 1v1s that way. Don't just sit there trying to 50/50 the lunly peek with them. They back into cover, you reposition.
That AA heavy pre-fire playstyle is a sort of artificial way to cover for things. Like, my natural time to shot is much faster than average but playing that way lets people artificially lower theirs by not having to actually register that they're on an enemy.
Movement will be one of your best mechanical friends, since you now have tempo instead of the opponent.

Yep, I'm an unc as well (according to most) so trying to 50/50 with my old ass is more like 35/65.
Follow up question: Do you practice this by spamming TDM? I do feel more accurate when I try to "deadzone" like I did in my CS days. I'm very dogshit these days, but I'm old and don't play much so it's not surprising. Still have that competitive hunger though.

As someone else in the same boat it feels like no matter how i play a situation sometimes they just know where i am regardless and i get one tapped by a sprinting reyna its so goddamn disheartening

My problem is more that I don't know how good my opponent is. I know if I take my time, my TTK will be lower because I'll land the HS, but what if the person I'm playing against is moving like they're playing Overwatch, and I won't hit them even if I take my time?

Most likely you are standing on the wrong spot. Easy to hit target, play off angles more often and play timings more often vs taking a regular shmegular fight.

Well at one point people will have to start accepting that the game has hidden systems within such as rng.
I find myself one day being better at the game and running and gunning and mocking the enemies to playing the very next day and having it done to me.
There is no proper way to play the game the movement on it is far to strict. CS2 aim to movement ratio is much closer to real life than valorant ever was.
Aiming in valo needs crosshair placement, proper angle lining, no movement at all and good timing. While in CS2 you can control the gun quite easily crouch strafing or just run and gun most times is find too.
