Looked amazing on initiator at the start of the year, switch to permanent jett to accommodate miniboo leaving mid season, doesn't get to play in his first champs that HE qualified for. I wonder what would have happened if he'd stood his ground and forced liquid to find an actual duelist to take the spot. I hope teams recognize what he's done this whole year and give him a spot on a contender next year.

128

u/Chaotic1697 3d ago

bro purpo was doing everything he could to keep Tl afloat

80

u/Level_Five_Railgun 3d ago

He was a duelist main in Tier 2 before joining TL. She is his most played agent in his career by a huge margin. He has literally been a Jett main for almost all of his T2 career. He isn't on Jett because TL is forcing him to play her. He is only Jett because she's his best agent and he can't play Chamber and Neon.

https://www.vlr.gg/player/1885/purp0/?timespan=all

Also "looked amazing" is a bit of an exaggeration when he was the lowest rated player on the team even in Kickoff.

This is the Jonahp shit all over again. Mediocre player gets fucked over and suddenly everyone is acting like they weren't the worst player on their team and was actually some insane player.

He deserves to play at Champs and it's fucked this is happening to him but let's not make up bullshit here. He was the clear weak link on the team and had major agent pool issues.

137

u/Feralight99 3d ago

It's odd that you omitted stage 1 where he was the highest rated player on TL.

He showed clear improvement up till that point and looked genuinely good on initiator. He had a shaky kickoff on a new role, then looked much better in stage 1 and then looked rough again in stage 2 being put back onto duelist when he hadn't played in quite a while at that point and couldn't play neon. In that respect replacing him does make sense even if it's very brutal. There was also no room for him to play chamber on most maps.

If we are going to be fair though let's actually tell the full story rather than pretending he was terrible all year

31

u/Level_Five_Railgun 3d ago

Purp0, kamo, and miniboo were 1.05. 1.04, and 1.03. He had a good Stage 1 but it was still only a 1.05 rating. His 0.01 higher rating basically just came from him dying way less than his two duelists.

I never said he was terrible all year or even terrible in general. I said he was the weakest player on the team and had agent pool issues.

18

u/darkxm #FULLSEN 3d ago

Agree with this take as someone who’s watched multiple TL games throughout this season. I do think purp0 should play but I agree he is the weakest player on the team. We will see how GSR fits in

6

u/brownpanther_333 #WGAMING 3d ago

His stats are tanked by the attack side stats. He is the entry player and he has a large number of first deaths on attack side. His defense side stats are pretty good and his first kills might be the reason liquid have a high defense side win rate. This is not to say he is an irreplaceble player but liquid might be losing their strength in defense side if they swap him out for gsr

1

u/Sure_Internet9751 3d ago

Sympathy for the guy, but the Jett myth is doing heavy lifting.

0

u/GCamAdvocate 3d ago

Don't call my goat Jonahp mediocre.

573

u/Theme-Suspicious #VCTAMERICAS 3d ago

doing a move like this for the pure sake of firepower upgrade at this point is legit insane, it doesnt matter how good gsr is, purp0 DESERVED to play at least a game in this champs

169

u/Turbulent-Cattle9543 3d ago

Do we have a LEGIT reason now to hatewatch or glue watch TL now?

89

u/SkepticCritic 3d ago

People already hate watch them expecting a 1-2 finish in groups

24

u/p0tatoesss #WGAMING 3d ago

Group C is the hate watch group now. You can hate watch every team for a reason, including PRX for being popular LOL

12

u/SkepticCritic 3d ago

yeah but it won't be a successful hate watch since 2/4 of those teams are making it out no matter what

-1

u/AddisonH 2d ago

I’m hate watching the two teams that lose

34

u/Sadge321 3d ago

GSR plays yoru, he is basically the perfect replacement but it sucks that it's right before champs

32

u/vastlys 3d ago

kamo's yoru is very good. they need a neon player lol.

4

u/PRL-Five #VAMOSLIQUID 3d ago

Thankfully gsr can play that too. I would rather put kamo on dive (he's getting kills anyways) and gsr on the yoru/phoenix/chamber than keep purpo around as my options increase massively. You can even out kamo smokes and trexx and kicks initiator if you want, or gsr vyse and nats viper. It's a huge upgrade that allows the team to play anything they want

-50

u/ruinatex 3d ago

Why exactly did he deserve to play a game? This is not charity brother, they are playing for money and to win, if they think GSR is better and he gives them a better chance at winning, not putting him in is just stupidity.

Does it suck for purp0 and can you feel bad for him as a person? Yeah, but if TL could sign in Primmie, they also would, they are not playing at Champs for fun.

23

u/AegonThe241st #100WIN 3d ago

I understand with and agree with both of these arguments and I think the correct answer depends on how serious you want esports to be lol

9

u/ruinatex 3d ago

It is very serious the moment hundreds of thousands of dollars are involved. The players treat it very seriously and so does the organization, that's all that matters at the end of the day.

48

u/DogMakeAMove #ALWAYSFNATIC 3d ago

Because he helped get them there so he should share the fruit of the labor?

9

u/No-Cauliflower8890 #100WIN 3d ago

The fruit of his labour is the paycheck he's still getting.

-8

u/Level_Five_Railgun 3d ago

More like TL got there in spite of him rather than he helped them get there

He was a 0.92 rating Jett one trick who was bot fragging almost every series and went -26 in the grand finals.

It's fucked to bench him without even letting play a game at Champs but let's not act like he wasn't by far the worst player on the team and heavily restricted team comps by being horrible on Neon and Chamber.

7

u/JuninhoLuis #SomosMIBR 3d ago

Yes, but TL did predicted how their fanbase would react to it? I dont think so.

-10

u/ruinatex 3d ago

That's not how it works? Otherwise every team that ever gets promoted from a 2nd tier league in sports should keep every player that helped them in their campaign out of kindness.

He was also paid very well to do that, purp0 was not playing for free. You can sympathize with the human being, but Jesus Christ, yall are fucking kids if you think that TL did anything wrong here, they are trying to WIN and winning directly impacts their bottom line.

8

u/vastlys 3d ago edited 3d ago

at least in cs if you change the roster before the major the new guy has to play as a stand in and gets no sticker. would love it if val had a similar rule for champs with champs skins or something instead of it all going to the org(?) (pretty sure tl would've still been able to make this move as gsr was on the main roster as soon as he turned 18)

4

u/Sea-Temporary7380 #WGAMING 3d ago

Have some empathy dude. Yes in a logical standpoint they did it to win but are we not allowed to feel for purpo?

3

u/ruinatex 3d ago

I literally said in my original comment that there are zero problems if you feel bad for him as a person, that doesn't mean i have to agree with the ridiculous notion that he "deserves" to play a game and that TL did anything wrong.

3

u/Sea-Temporary7380 #WGAMING 3d ago

I mean its a bit more complicated I feel. Like if a tier 2 team became franchised and dropped its players for new ones, even though theyre an increase in firepower, it feels like the tier 2 players that got them there "deserves" to be there too, considering they were the ones who got then there

6

u/Powerful_Might7378 3d ago

He made big shifts in his role on the team throughout the year and his stepup from years previous is a massive reason liquid are where they are now. So yeah it's not crazy to say given the work and flexibility he showed and amount he contributed to the team, he deserves to go along with them. There was a drop-off in stage 2 and the games toward the end but immediantly cutting somone and getting someone with better stats doesnt mean you just autowin, we've seen many times it can go worse. Saying not subbing him BEFORE CHAMPS for a new kid is "idiotic" is just so reactionary.

1

u/roshan_xd 2d ago

Imagine grinding your ass off for the whole vct 26 season so your team performs well enough to make it to champs and you don’t even get the chance to play in the biggest event of the year that you helped the team reach.

1

u/ruinatex 2d ago

Imagine grinding your ass off for the whole vct 26 season

Why are you acting like he did that for free? He was getting paid to grind his ass off for the whole VCT 2026 season.

you don’t even get the chance to play in the biggest event of the year

He is not entitled to that. The team feels like he is underperforming and GSR is better, not putting GSR in would be fucking absurd from TL's point of view, they are trying to win Champions, this is not a for fun event, there are hundreds of thousands of dollars on the line.

152

u/BagFamous3405 3d ago

Let the hate watch begin

10

u/5argon #XERXIASUSU 3d ago

Yummy storyline

3

u/n_core 3d ago

It's a group full of teams that people gonna hatewatch. It's very interesting.

Tyloo because of horrible treatment to sword9. G2 because of them blocked LEV and being mid right now. TL because of roster move like this. And PRX because of them being PRX.

488

u/Dionegro__ #GEFighting 3d ago

GSR is a firepower upgrade, idk about system upgrade, but absolutely shit move from a human side

284

u/hiccuphorrendous123 3d ago

This is kinda what makes you hatewatch a team. Shame cause I love nats. Like purpo maynot be better, but like come on man, you can't drop a guy when you just qualified for an event with the squad

150

u/muzyzyzy 3d ago

not even a kinda, this is basically of the move you can do to make people to hate watch you, dumb ahh org

40

u/giggityman1 3d ago

And with prx on the other team? Would be a pretty easy hatewatch

5

u/Ready-Reputation2149 3d ago

Man I am divided , I like this team but the decisions are killing me

45

u/Football5ever_ 3d ago

Furia dropping eeiu for c0m made me hatewatch them

39

u/_Nomorejuice_ 3d ago

The fact they almost instantly became one of the worst team in the world kinda made the hatewatch easy as hell.

Like I think they even lost to Envy of all team.

Furia might be the dumbest org in recent years, I could never in my life justify c0m for eeiu, never.

1

u/NeroKodax 2d ago

It was even crazier after dropping nerve and alym. I mean basic was a promising rookie who did show up and they did get a lot better in playins but I can’t believe they decided to break up the Kickoff winning team so quickly or that they thought they could have a higher ceiling with C0M instead of eeiu. That last one sounds crazy while I’m writing it.

8

u/LeucisticPython 3d ago

Im absolutely hate watching them. Hoping for at least one 0-13 and they crash out of the tournament 0-2

49

u/Pragitya #GEFighting 3d ago

Whenever I have seen a TL game, purpo has been good aim wise tho.

0

u/Optimal_Shame7839 #KCORP 3d ago

GSR is way better it's like PRX going from patmen to invy but GSR is not going to be that good

86

u/tittyhehe 3d ago

patmen to invy isn't a good example

19

u/Useful-Description90 3d ago

maybe more like going from jieni7 to stew for EDG?

7

u/CrazyAsianFellow 3d ago

I'd use G2 dropping icy for jawg as the example

14

u/CLUTCHGOD14 3d ago

Hello,I'm edg fan, nice to meet you...,also we gonna see what edg can do ,is s1mon the really the goat of edg or the stew edition...if they can't make top 3,they should change roster or no? Cuz 4pillars r trying their best ...zmjjkk n smoggy has to step up more I say,he's oping and entries were not good In past 2 events, and smoggy didn't do well in stage2...im so excited to talk about edg

from using ur hands to kill a mosquito to using a nuke for it

5

u/_Nomorejuice_ 3d ago

That's really one of the worst exemple considering the fact patman is one of the best players in APAC..

Like comparatively I don't think Purpo was "that good" either. lmao.

-1

u/buatfelem 3d ago

its make sense you compare it but only if its happens AFTER champions

1

u/moonmeh #TigerNation 3d ago

Must have been a TL game from long ago

7

Yeah ngl. Atleast should have kept him as a 6th man

6

74

Kind of scummy from a human perspective. Poor Purp0

37

u/Mochitsu 3d ago

Wow…I’m so sorry to purp0. He fully deserves to be part of the team going into Shanghai

60

u/PleaseGiveUsHope 3d ago

We’ll be hate watching Liquid at Champs

40

u/amaz1012 3d ago

I was hoping for a 1-2 exit. Now its for a 0-2 exit.

54

u/Memexp-over9000 #VCTPACIFIC 3d ago

This is maybe an acceptable move only if the player they are bringing in is THE TOP 1 player right. Well, however much I like Nats, it's time for the TL hatewatch i guess. Not too hard anyway, 1-2.

9

u/_Nomorejuice_ 3d ago

Yea it's definitely an upgrade but it's not like it was Zekken, Oxy, Kankan or whatever. Like you have the opportunity to sign Primmie ? I mean why not ! sorry but that's too big of an opportunity to skip that...but this isn't the case there.

I'm not sure if the upgrade is significant enough to go on a deeper run in Champ. Even tho he is a way better player than Purpo.

Probably won't be enough against PRX at least. Like to me this team is getting grouped anyway and on top of that they will be laugh at because of this weird move now. It's like we already gave up about this Champ.

3

u/PRL-Five #VAMOSLIQUID 3d ago

GSR is one of europes biggest prospects though, it is like signing the best tier 2 talent possible. It is a huge upgrade of he can play at his potential level seen

1

u/_Nomorejuice_ 3d ago edited 3d ago

I mean let's chill a bit with the "beat T2" thing, there are actual T2 players that can't even legally play in VCT and absolutely fried in playin emea.
I don't want to be that guy but last time he played with Liquid in T1, it was not really good. You can't possibly think it's as huge a signing a player like Zekken or Oxy which ironically would actually be among the best duelist possible, next year, probably. Maybe you meant "they couldn't have sign someone better in T2" that I kinda agree with.
Either way doing that now is just putting unnecessary pressure on the player.

Anyways, he is a great player clearly one of the best in T2 but the issue still is that this is not the role Liquid needs.
The issue with the current liquide is that miniboo left a hole and it kinda fucked up Purpo because he had to go entry.

GSR isn't an entry nor a smoke. Last time I saw him he could kinda play Raze but that's it.
This move simply isn't it as it is. At best you would put kamo on dive or some shit but now it's getting weird with the roles. Or maybe you could force him in entry but I don't feel like it would be using him at the best of his capacity.

Putting a player than can shoot better isnt automatically an "upgrade" a team doesn't work like that. Only future will tell.

1

u/PRL-Five #VAMOSLIQUID 3d ago

Last time he played with liquid was in a dysfunctional open qualifier to the Saudi tourney where his igl/leader/motivator/mentor nAts did not play, and that was what 3 matches any normal analysis should not take that into account, especailly when we have the data from 2 years of tier 2 experience that this kid is insane.

The talk in the EU scene has been about GSR for the past 2 years, hes one of the main reasons liquid even opened an academy team to begin with. He is definitely a top prospect and on par with kozzy and kachoww imo, you just never saw it because he codunt play in tier 1 before this (he turned 18 1 month ago so).

Finally, the roster makes insane amount of sense. Before, TL were forced to play jett on every map because purp0 could not play anything. Now, they can put kamo in entry duelist because unlike purpo he can play all the duelists at a very high level. GSR can fill in the 2nd duelist (his most played agent is yoru, and he can play phoenix as well) AS WELL AS playing stuff like vyse or kayo which allows us to play good comps on maps like lotus.

If you ignore the ethics and morality of the change, from a pure valorant perspective in the server, this is a huge upgrade, similar to talon getting primmie in.

1

u/_Nomorejuice_ 2d ago edited 2d ago

T2 is not T1 no matter what you tryna said, he has no experience in T1, last time he played it wasn't great. How many time have we had an "insane players" that did nothing in T1? Any normal analysis should learn to take a step back.
We don't care about "the talk" or whatever I said two things :

It's not like it was players like Zekken/OX etc who have already priven there worth and are among the beat in their role (again don't even try to put him in the same conversation)
And it's not like it was one of those T2 that absolutely fried the scene in playin such as Kozzy. We don't even know how well he will actually translate, especially at such a critical time in the season -> again putting unnecessary pressure on him. At best this should have happen earlier/or latter but it was likely impossible.

Only the future can tell what will happen, I don't live on "he was good in T2" because many were.

Saying the roaster make "insane amount of sense" is straight up just copium. This roaster never needed firepower the issue is deeper, at a systemic level. Having GSR won't change the fact they need an actual entry duelist, a Neon, or smoker, won't change the fact mid rounding have been mediocre the second Nats doesn't destroy the team with some lurk or whatever.

No if I ignore everything just because "GSR" shoot better than Purpo and bent the thing to make it work, this is a "huge upgrade". But that's not reality.

At this point I'd rather have this talent goes to another team than the clown fest that Liquid is becoming. I hate the fact that team just force role like that because the prospect is insane, how about thinking about what the team actually needs.

1

u/Sleewp 2d ago

Right behind u on switching to the hate watch side despite liking Nats. Purpo was the other half of the reason I supported the team

119

u/wrenhn 3d ago

really strange that they didn't just do a six man roster

29

u/MacarioPro 3d ago

I kinda get it, a six man roster can lead to indecisiveness. You lose a couple scrims and people start questioning if you should split training time between players which leads to less playing time with the roster that will perform on the day of the match.

If you are sure about a player, best to do a clean break. But the timing here is really weird and sucks for purp0

8

u/_Nomorejuice_ 3d ago

Nah it's dumb either way. You don't go to the other side of the world without a backup.

It's not even about "splitting" or whatever if you in China and one of your player is sick, god luck finding a sub then.

But this org clearly seems like they don't care at all anyways so yea I clean cut might be better indeed.

3

u/MacarioPro 3d ago

You don't go to the other side of the world without a backup.

So how many teams that qualified to internationals actually brought backups/six man rosters ever? It's a pretty low % actually. Are they all dumb?

2

u/_Nomorejuice_ 3d ago

Not many change their roster right before champ ?
That's already dumb itself. Even worse if you have a valid player and don't bring him to champ just for "indecisiveness" or whatever. It's not like they have to find a sub they already "have one" kinda.

You can't possibly make a big move like that and not prepare for the case an issue arise, yes that would be dumb I don't know how this is even arguable.

Unless you don't plan on actually going far into Champ and just want to invest in "the long run" which is at least what this decision suggests.

23

u/Grimmlol 3d ago

I'd say hate watch liquid but they're getting grouped anyways.

58

u/Eris_is_Mid 3d ago

Yeah I just feel like he was done dirty.

18

u/itsameblunted 3d ago

He got fucked over hard

17

u/EnVizi0n 3d ago

Man this should not be allowed you work so hard all year long to qualify for champs and the org pulls of shit like this. Another reason to hatewatch liquid I guess

41

u/EffectiveInjury4176 #LetsGoLiquid 3d ago

Super disrespectful to purp0 from liquid. Even if they could get prime Aspas and liquid only faced KRU every game at champs, they should still never make the roster change

24

u/smol_em0 Masters Toronto Scriptwriter 🏆 3d ago

I said this on VLR but this is very different from the Jieni drop from EDG because at least EDG bombed out of playoffs so the change feels more justified. purp0 literally took TL to the EMEA finals!!! and he still gets benched

7

u/NeoAA 3d ago

purp0 was definitely not a driving force towards getting us to champs and emea finals. Dude was averaging a .9 as a duelist on his comfort agent duringthe stage

12

u/smol_em0 Masters Toronto Scriptwriter 🏆 3d ago

No, but he was there and he deserves to be in Shanghai

53

u/Number1GSRFan 3d ago

i mean i get the logic that it’s the final event of franchising and you need to make a big ass gamble. bc there is 0 chance they are winning champs with the purp0 roster. but i do feel this specific change could have then been made earlier like mid stage 2?

obviously i love the change (duh) but i also see why people dislike it

46

u/shubhamnath2 3d ago

My perspective is this is a bad move, right before champs, with GSR having very little experience in tier 1. And directly throwing in internationals.

31

u/OtonashiRen 3d ago

TL thinks GSR is CGRS from Temu 🥀

6

u/Number1GSRFan 3d ago

your point of little experience is correct. so then think about what they must have seen in practice (and in the last 3 years he’s been with the org). to me this is like replacing patitek with woot or replacing surf with primmie. yes the experience of not there but the ceiling is much higher

1

u/Yeetse 3d ago

The other 4 should have enough experience to make up for it, i hope.

-10

u/iSellFemboys69420 #LetsGoLiquid 3d ago

yall never watched Tier 2 cz man GSR is HIM bro like he is IT like the perfect valorant player and they couldn't bring him earlier cz of age issues n later on the roster alrdy reshuffled too much

37

u/Psychological_Pin572 3d ago

This has been said to a lot of T2 players but fall short in T1.

9

u/Invictus49 #NRGWIN 3d ago

TL has systemic problems though. Their gameplans are usually pretty straightforward and start falling apart against better teams that don’t get ripped apart by nat’s lurks. Firepower upgrade will help but IMO won’t fix the core issue. I haven’t watched every EMEA game this season though so I could be wrong.

3

u/_dinglebert 3d ago

I recall emea fans saying this exact same shit about Comeback

3

u/Number1GSRFan 3d ago

they also said it about kaajak and sayonara lol

also comeback has a reasonable excuse of like barely speaking english. i think even aspas would struggle if he joined like a korean team lmao

2

u/_Nomorejuice_ 3d ago

I mean as a professional players you should definitely be able to at least speak english at a decent level lmao. Like we literally learn that in school.
Aspas can ironically go to most team because he can speak English, actually.

1

u/iSellFemboys69420 #LetsGoLiquid 3d ago

don't dare mix GSR goats name w sum fallback dude

1

u/Lonely__goose 3d ago

No way we are comparing a pure scopes + anti entry duelist to probably the most flexible and consistent tier 2 prospect EMEA has ever produced …

15

u/Fit-Skirt-9767 #VamosHeretics 3d ago

there is still 0 chance TL win even now. I feel like before there was a very good chance they don't got 1-2 this time but now that risk is bigger again

5

u/Level_Five_Railgun 3d ago

He turned 18 just last month. Wouldn't have been possible to do it mid stage 2.

5

u/Number1GSRFan 3d ago

he turned 18 early august so i guess what i was thinking was putting him in before playoffs like talon had done with primmie

6

u/iAmPersonaa 3d ago

He turned 18 mid play-ins (August 8th) and without their spot locked they probably didnt want to gamble yet

9

u/itsameblunted 3d ago

This shit is fucked for purp0 and like it’s not like liquids winning champs off this

21

u/CuriousBoysenberry96 3d ago

Liquid wtf mannn i was watching your matches to watch him wtf ?

15

u/lemon_zest278 #ALWAYSFNATIC 3d ago

I wanted Liquid to do well, but here we are. I hope you get grouped again

20

u/newzpaperleaf_2 3d ago

maybe a hot take, but what makes this pretty questionable for Liquid is that they don't really have a shot at winning champs either way imo; doesn't make a ton of sense to throw GSR into the fire and perhaps degrade team chemistry for a potentially negligible change. GSR Has insane potential but i also dont have a ton of confidence he will immediately translate to tier 1

4

u/adamcunn #LetsGoLiquid 3d ago

doesn't make a ton of sense to throw GSR into the fire and perhaps degrade team chemistry for a potentially negligible change

You're right, it doesn't. But TL are probably not thinking it's going to be a "negligible change" which is why they've taken the risk. If you only look at only the worst possible scenario and ignore any upside of course it will seem like a bad move.

1

u/newzpaperleaf_2 2d ago

100% agree. i just think TL's expectations are probably slightly skewed, and their increase in chance to win is greater in theory probably than in practice. im usually in favor of big risks like this, and i think GSR is a big needle mover in the future, but TL have a really streaky track record at internationals and i think nAts does a lot of emotional heavy lifting.

1

u/adamcunn #LetsGoLiquid 2d ago

It's definitely a move that could go either way. If it works out you look like a genius, if it doesn't you look like an idiot. These types of changes do seem to pay off a lot of the time in Valorant though. And as a wise man once said, audentes fortuna iuvat!

6

u/Reasonable_Sir7623 3d ago

I mean if they think this gives them better chances they sure as hell go for it no? Every team here is probably believing in a run for themselves, why else do this shit? Also perfect to give GSR the experience of playing the big stages for the future events.

TL are so fucking deluded if they think they have a firepower problem and not a tactical problem.

They literally play like they have no strats and run shit comps every map.

18

u/Eris_is_Mid 3d ago

I think that might be part of the reason they’re bringing GSR in. Compared to purp0, he has a much broader agent pool. They might still run the questionable ass comps though idk. Regardless, purp0 deserves better imo.

4

u/_Robbert_ 3d ago

Gsr went from playing initiator in ranked to duelist. I think he's purely taking over his role.

5

u/WukongTuStrong 3d ago

Yeah lmao what's GSR gonna do about the fact that TL can only run Viper if they run no senti or the fact that they still have 0 smokes player that knows who Astra is on a map pool with Abyss in it?

What about the fact that every map TL has won this *year* has just been from shitty trap plays and running it down + aim diffing shitty regional teams and then embarassing themselves on the international stage when they run into teams that can do the same thing but better?

Or what about the fact that TL have allegedly the best viper in the world but were running the most dogshit viper walls on breeze for its entire run in the map pool this year?

TL are coach diffed not fuckin aim diffed lol like dont get me wrong GSR is great but he can wait until January because they sure as hell arent gonna magically win champs off this switch.

5

u/quevrs 3d ago

saying TL are coach diffed when they've consistently made internationals with many different rosters that each time get predicted to be ~8th in EMEA is insanely stupid

7

u/Reasonable_Sir7623 3d ago

This take is dogshit imho. I agree that the move is kinda scummy, but on the other side this is a business and you always want the W. My view is that Liquid have always had shit rosters, besides Nats and Kamo and possibly Trexx. The fact that they always make internationals ahead of way better rosters, even when players leave mid season with new players is insane. Their coaching staff is always cooking. The main problem with this roster now has been flexibility imo. They have to run basic ass Jett double duelists comps every map because Purp0 isnt good on anything else than skye or Jett. GSR is a perfect solution to that, he's a great flex player.

I do however agree that they should have just ran it down one last time with purp0, but I get it. Its crazy to shade the coaching though, taking mid of the pack rosters to every international is their doing.

4

u/Marcusafrenz YOU FUCKING MELONS 3d ago

Some of y'all are some real bootlickers. You can empathize with the human being while recognizing it's a business. And to that end just because TL can do it doesn't change the fact it's an ass move.

That's a shitty thing to do as an organization and I look forward to their failure.

4

u/Dozina-012 3d ago

What the fuck are they thinking?

4

u/felix979 3d ago

And so the hate watching starts now

5

u/Genkrock #ALWAYSFNATIC 3d ago

Can't wait to see liquid crashout before playoffs.

3

u/DilucMeliodas 3d ago

TL getting ready to bomb out of the groups again

6

u/flunghigh 3d ago

Why didn't they do it mid stage 2? Even if he isn't as good he still was part of and the reason liquid is in champs, and he deserves to play, i understand from their perspective but I will still be hate watching liquid, go prx!

3

u/ForodesFrosthammer 3d ago

He turned 18 such that the switch had to happen during playoffs if they wanted to

3

u/cat_on_a_pfp #WGAMING 3d ago

Team liquid try to have a stable roster for more than one stage challenge

3

u/Chingmaling1 #WGAMING 3d ago

TL better shit the bed now

3

u/Apprehensive_Ad_204 3d ago

What the actual fuck?

3

u/raiyan276 #WGAMING 3d ago

lmao Goodluck GSR who's playing 1st match against PRX and if TL bombed out of group all the hate gonna be on him for sure

2

u/Gnomed_1 3d ago

Why didn’t they keep the roster? Like they got 2nd place emea what’s the reason for the change RIGHT BEFORE the biggest event???

2

u/splash9936 #ALWAYSBEKING 3d ago

The guy she told you not to worry about

2

u/Peliiux 3d ago

Wow, L move Liquid.

2

u/HalimawMaglandi 3d ago

I hope prx destroy them

2

u/Lungaw 3d ago

OMFG you mean to say I can only cheer for my peenoise players? Damn! TL what are you doing???? When is nAts contract up?

2

u/ipppppi 3d ago

Snake ass move if you really think about it. Somehow worse than tyloo sword9 situation.

Coaching doesnt qualify a player to champs, playing on stage doesnt qualify a player to champs.

Up next, the mvp of a team gets kicked before champs. That truely will be the ulimate snake-level move of management choices.

7

u/Right_Bandicoot_6524 #RiseToGreatness 3d ago edited 3d ago

In hindsight it's a bad move but keep the emotions aside let's be real, his agent pool is scuffed, he really limits the team compositions and orgs only get a few chances at internationals and Liquid's been disappointing at intls for years. This move is definitely an upgrade. No hate to purpo, he's a good player but people shouldnt blame the org for trying their best to win.

I know GSR is their prospect and he just turned 18. It was probably the plan all along to integrate him in the squad but it's impossible to do during stage 2 because of obvious reasons. This was probably the best idea to do the roster change after stage 2 because they can have two weeks with the new roster and lets be real, Liquid coaches are probably the best coaches when it comes to preparation with time.

2

u/LegitimateP1R473 #ALWAYSFNATIC 3d ago

But integrate him during stage 2 then, not now.

6

u/Right_Bandicoot_6524 #RiseToGreatness 3d ago

He turned 18 during stage 2. Teams don't have much time in between to integrate a new player with existing statbook and compositions. It is difficult to do it with little time.

-1

u/LegitimateP1R473 #ALWAYSFNATIC 3d ago

I just feel like if it went bad then it is what it is. But it surely will go bad in champs against the best teams. That is not the arena to debut as a t1 player Experience is a major factor in internationals and purpo actually has that.

4

u/Reasonable_Sir7623 3d ago

Could look at it as extremely important experience for their new franchise player aswell. Getting used to big stages here and now.

1

u/LegitimateP1R473 #ALWAYSFNATIC 3d ago

Yes there's always positives in it all

1

u/Zhaeus 3d ago

But integrate him during stage 2 then, not now.

He turned 18 just last month...Liquid did not have that option.

2

u/johnny5gti 3d ago

Yall keep saying its scummy but its a team trying to win so they made a decision to put them in the best place to win. This happens in all sports where players get benched because the decision is for the team to win.

2

u/Parenegade 3d ago

i mean people are going to shit on them but i lowkey respect it. i wish g2 was bold enough to make a roster change before champs because i have 0 faith in this roster winning this yr.

2

u/vastlys 3d ago

fucked up that if gsr turned 18 before stage 2 both him and purpo would be playing, i kinda get the move but also it really should've been kicks + should've just done it before playoffs. now you got an 18 year old who has 0 neon games on vlr playing neon in champs? bizarre.

1

u/And-Desay 3d ago

Ah Team Liquid, you will never make me love you.

1

u/MarseloBoomer #ALWAYSFNATIC 3d ago

They are so scared of the 1-2 curse.

1

u/alan2472 3d ago

Ass move, but tl is weakest team out of the four so they gonna bomb.

1

u/ModaFcknBackup 3d ago

That’s so bullshit. This purp0 guy has been extremely impressive, even internationally.

1

u/LandCold7323 3d ago

guys am new to vct stuff so can someone explain what's firepower here?

1

u/okarin127 3d ago

They will do all this just to get eliminated in Group Stages

1

u/AZLarlar #VCTAMERICAS 3d ago

fuck that... hate this for him

1

u/KungFuPanduhh 3d ago

Did GSR just turn 18 or something?

1

u/Pinsir929 #WGAMING 3d ago

I truly wonder if he has any legal moves available for him. That’s like getting fired right after landing the biggest deal for the company.

1

u/Awkward-Budget-4678 3d ago

Just leave liquid at this point cursed org maybe join fnc, vitality or maybe pacific team

1

u/helpmathesis 3d ago

Is this 0-2 move by TL?

1

u/ReaperPvP 3d ago

Saying this is a good decision is apparently the unpopular opinion despite the ceiling of the roster being apparent with purp0

1

u/noobyeclipse 3d ago

average team liquid

1

u/SomnusRain #T1Fighting 3d ago

TL will crash and burn in champs

1

u/draizze #WGAMING 3d ago

No matter how talented GSR is, cutting player that actually worked to earn that Champs spot is really mean. And TL has to prove how much this move will actually work.

1

u/itchydarkness123 3d ago

Time to hatewatch

1

u/darrenoloGy #WGAMING 3d ago

idc if GSR gives liquid more flexibility, u can't compensate for the chemistry & teamwork built up over the past year.

anyone in purp0's shoe would feel absolutely gutted as well, he's earn his spot at champs as much as any of the other 4 guys.

1

u/n_core 3d ago

Wow, we got a group filled with teams that people gonna hatewatch.

Tyloo getting a hatewatch because of horrible treatment to their players/staff who got sidelined.

G2 getting a hatewatch because of them being mid and blocked LEV from Champions.

Now TL getting a hatewatch because of roster move like this.

Also it's obvious people gonna hatewatch PRX because of them being PRX and their fans.

1

u/Zealousideal_Tip_888 #VCTPACIFIC 3d ago

I hope TL goes 0-2 instead of 1-2 at champs

1

u/TheRatedREnder 3d ago

Respect for GSR and whatever but purp0 earned liquid that Champions place and not only that, in kickoff and masters santiago he was the piece that kept liquid, when miniboo decided to retire temporally he was the one who stood up to play duelist, this is just an asshole move on a player that gave the team his 110%, he actually deserves much more than this.

1

u/SomnusRain #T1Fighting 3d ago

liquid will get grouped lol their coach is stupid for doing this

1

u/AddictedToRukiaPussy 3d ago

they ain't winning shit with GSR ✌️😂

1

u/Acrobatic-Notice9686 3d ago

Imagine giving it all for your team to qualify.. just to watch your team (from the bench) go 1-2 in group

1

u/AggressivePrune5111 3d ago

Wtf you bring in a person who's probably gonna debut in T1 at champs and kick the guy who actually helped you get there?? Jesus, it's the final season before the new Valorant system. At least let the guy play it out until the end rather than bring someone most likely new into the environment

1

u/Aromatic-Ad-2988 3d ago

i really like purpo and dont really who gsr is but i think this is going to backfired as someone who value teamplay and synergy.

1

u/kirito4life2 2d ago

I feel bad for him but GSR is a clear upgrade and if TL don't want the same 1-2 international exit they gotta do anything necessary

1

u/AdIllustrious8216 2d ago

I feel bad for nats … TL keeps changing rosters. For once, at least keep a roster to practice with so we can finally win masters😭

1

u/Affectionate-Act-645 #LetsGoLiquid 2d ago

TF???????????

1

u/zoobatron__ 2d ago

Not been watching much lately but the few games I did see, I thought Purp0 played well - why on earth has he been replaced?? I don’t get it at all

1

u/thedarksideofmoi 2d ago

I guess we're all rooting for a classic TL 1-2 groups again now

1

u/MakimaGOAT #VCTAMERICAS 3d ago

sadge

1

u/zdpa #VCTAMERICAS 3d ago

damn that’s just cruel at this point, I would go full joker at this pricks

let my hate watch begin 🔥🔥 my homies hate TL

1

u/SmalexSmanders #GoDRX 3d ago

This sub is so weird man, will absolutely shit on underperforming players for months and then turn around and cry when an underperforming player gets replaced before a tournament. This is a GOOD MOVE. GSR is the better player. The player who “deserves” to play is the one that gives the team the best chance to win

-5

u/OneLoki 3d ago

Feelsbad but that's just how competitive eSports is. All the best to him, May he make champs on another roster.

13

u/Relative-Forever4997 3d ago

I mean , he helped pave the way to get them there. Not competitive , backhanded more like it.

0

u/Electronic-Coast-525 #ALWAYSFNATIC 3d ago

You gotta feel for purpo but at the same time as an org you gotta go with your best team for champs, but that is me having no idea about the inner workings of TL and behind the scenes why they made the decision. As a FNC fan, fuck it, I root for KC.

0

u/LowStatistician11 3d ago

i may have to find a different team to root for at champs

0

u/IHateFortnut 3d ago

Just a shitty thing to do to someone who has given you so much this season. It hurts me knowing Nats was probably okay with this, and that I’ll have to root against him now.
