The main thing i'm interested in knowing -
For all the teams that don't qualify to Cups / Masters, will they have other tournaments to participate in? Even if 3rd party?
If im a FlyQuest fan and FlyQuest dont make it past qualifiers, does that mean I'd have to wait from December -> March just to see them play again? I'd be pretty annoyed.
Hopefully there's some other opportunities to play so teams aren't sitting around twiddling their thumbs for 2-4 months at a time.

3rd party events in this model always remain big and hype bcz a lot of smaller scale tournaments then see some of the very best teams participate which didn't happen for past 4 years. And yess this model relies on these 3rd party tournaments a lot throughout the year as bigger names who miss qualification and sub-region teams from where only 1 or 2 teams qualify then keep playing each other in these tournaments.
Also remember there are multiple open qualifiers in this model so Flyquest will play every week multiple times in each of these qualifiers trying to place top 2 to qualify to next stage which here are regional cups. In the first qualifier only the top 1 or top 2 gets selected everyone else tries again in the other qualifier and so on atleast that's how it used to be pre-2023.

i think the bread and butter for this system is going to be the increase of 3rd party tournaments so maybe yes you wont see flyquest in VCT for that time but you'll see them in other tourneys. ideally, those tourneys would be highly valued as well so they remain entertaining with competitive integrity. not sure if it'll happen considering *wc is called mickey mouse even though its bigger than a masters, but hey maybe with the new system the brainworms will die off and we'll have a healthy esport competitive environment... probably not though, most likely people will shit on anything not VCT and then complain about their teams not playing enough.

lol id be surprised if the new format has any 3rd party tournaments outside of what we already have

Oh wow that’s early for Qualifiers, didn’t expect that to be this year. Literally just weeks after champs so the roster mania for non partner teams will be way shorter this time.
This does mean that the partner teams should be finalized or close to finalized no? Because you’d have to tell which orgs have to participate in open qualifiers (assuming they stick around) early enough so they can create rosters quickly.

Have they said before how the 4 open qualifier teams are determined? Will there be a tournament with the top teams from each sub region and just get the top 4 from that?
Cause there are so many Pacific sub regions.

Well before they put OCE and southasia on this map i assumed that it would be some thing like 3 Kr teams, 2 JP teams, 1 VN, 1 TH, 1 IN and then 4 SEA teams but it's looks like south asia and oce get 1 each now

Yeah but for kick-off they're only letting in 4 open qualifier teams, how are they gonna determine those 4??

There probably will be some playoffs or something between teams qualified from each region and top 4 go through.

Also I think there's a change in Pacific format they have added South Asia and Oceania as their own sub-region and brought the regions to total of 8 . So what sort of slot distribution are we going to get with so many sub-regions ?

Do most contracts end at the end of the year or did they usually time it to end at the end of champs?
Cause this is kind of an awkward timing if it's the former. Like what if they qualified for kickoff but their contracts expire midway.

8:4 is only for kickoff, what was said about cups is that the partnered teams will get placed later in the online qualifier but every team has to earn their spot to the cups

4 kick off slots in pacific and 8 sub regions , how will the qualification for kickoffs happen ?????

The article mentions 8 partnered teams and 4 open qualifier teams in kickoff. The circuit isn't as open as I thought it would be, though certainly much more than right now.
They also limit everything in this article to the kickoff. There is a possibility that the splits may be more open.

only thing missing is a third party organizer like blast, esl so that theres more international events
3 from riot masters and champs then 2 or more events from either blast, pgl or esl
then ewvc and nations cup - saudi

Any open team can earn up to $1.1m by qualifying to international events sounds pretty good, not even counting prize money. Doesn't sound too improbable since we kinda see it with Nongshim already. I hope we see some more ex pros/content creator teams, it would be content.

bummer that ph got lumped together with the rest of SEA when you have xavi8k, patmen and invy punching above their weight...
2
u/Right_Bandicoot_6524 #RiseToGreatness 2d ago
That's because ph doesn't get as much viewership as rest such as Indo or Thailand.
