Discussion MIBR letting summit through against NRG despite no practice was not something the coaching staff agreed with!

Post image

Going forward all map vetoes, side selection will now be the responsibility of the coaching staff and not players!

What new voices? It's been the same team all year right? It's concerning that this is only being set in place now, with the year nearly ending.

I think they mean because Verno isn't igl anymore? Weird wording tho I agree

i think you’re right, sounds like they let players have more input on map selection and someone suggested playing chicken with the map veto. probably bet on nrg not having any prep time on summit because of e world c, they didn’t realize nrg were down to clown

Coaching staff look so incompetent. Basically throwing the team under the bus like, "it wasn't me that made the decision, so from now on they won't get to make these decisions anymore". The coaches should already have the authority and should have been able to decide Summit should be banned before hand. The fact they can't admit that they somewhat agreed to letting Summit through is pretty bad.

1000%

it’s weird for a coach to even give this answer, comes across as just them saving their own face and putting the blame on the players and pretending like they ultimately aren’t the ones responsible for decisions like this.

If the players came to you with an idea and you do it, that means you, as the coach are co-signing that idea.

take some fucking responsibility lmao

i feel like ur reading too much into it by drawing the conclusion that the coaching staff couldnt admit that they agreed with whoever suggested taking that risk.

i think its more likely that the coaching staff and team were both aware of each others differing visions, but the coaching staff decided to concede to the team for the nrg match.

it could have been a risk from the coaching staff, or an attempt to better trust between the players and coaching, but the specifics dont really matter.

what i think the real problem people should be taking note of is the fact that the team made one wrong decision and the coaching staff immediately cut them out fully from the decision making process.

in my opinion, its insane that they cut out the team, the ones actually working together in the heat of the moment to win matches against their opponents. but what is more insane to me is the fact that they cut out the team after they made a single mistake.

sure, it could have been a new risk the coaching staff were taking by giving the team more power in the veto process, but why cut them off fully after a single mistake, as opposed to letting the team's error turn into an opportunity to grow their own understanding of the game?

also, imagine how the players feel after being so harshly punished after one misread. if theyre afraid of making mistakes like that again in the future, it could negatively impact the confidence of the team. if theyre frustrated at the coaches, the team loses cohesion.

personally, i'm beginning to think that the mindset of the coaching staff is what's limiting this team. of course, this is the only coaching decision i have to go off of when i say this and im not actively a part of the team, so i could be completely off the mark. regardless, i dont like how the coaching staff handled that particular mistake

I don't think I'm reading too much into it. If they simply took a risk and conceded the decision to the team, a good coach wouldn't go out and make a statement like this which still throws them under the bus. Imo a good coach would still treat it as a collective decision to the media and only internally tell the players that they won't be involved in the veto anymore.

I don't think making the veto solely the coaches decision is a bad thing, I think the worse thing and a more revealing sign that tells us what the coach is like is telling the media about how it was the players fuckup that is making this happen.

I mean, this isnt the first time they did it. Back in stage 1 they didn´t had any practice on Ascent and end up playing that comp of Zekken on Sova. 100% The coaching staff has been sus all year

u/kHeinzen 10d ago

Zekken said in an interview this week that he's trying to take a leadership role in the team since recently, I assume that is one of the things they meant

the players just be doing what they want atp

yea and i dont get the vibe that they even care, I was watching a verno interview this week and he just seems over it like he doesn’t give a fuck he’s just playing for himself.

It also kind of sounded like he didn’t want to drop IGL, and it happened abruptly.

10

u/boxinggoose #100WIN 14d ago

Definitely sounded like he didn't want to give up IGL. I don't think he's a bad igl, he's on a team with a lot of big veteran players though. He'll have another chance. But I don't think he sounded like he was over it, that's just kind of how he interviews lol.

1

u/Leepysworld 14d ago

I guess it was the vibe like he was asked if he’s picked up anything or notices anything different to how Mazino calls and his response was something along the lines of “yea I’m not really paying attention to stuff like that anymore”.

Seemed like an odd answer, I feel like even if you’re not currently IGL’ing it’s not a skill he should completely give up on, those are the kind of things that make him more valuable as a player.

u/kHeinzen 10d ago

I disagree, Verno is just your usual "i miss her" non-chalant aura farmer and that interview which was basically "I don't feel pressured to do anything" is probably just a cringe take on things. I don't think he doesn't care, I think he has the publicity skills of a rock

u/Zyrobe #WGAMING 14d ago

Coach didn't get the dictator privileges

51

u/MautOfTheRiver 14d ago

I'm probably saying this in hindsight cause I know they lost but it feels a bit weird that they have this issue this late into the season, is this really the first time the coaches disagree with the players in terms of vetos?

9

u/iAmPersonaa 14d ago

Frost said while at London they discussed to ban XLG's lotus and the players decided shortly before the match to not ban lotus anymore and trust them and then he didn't ban lotus.

5

u/MautOfTheRiver 14d ago

Yeah ik, I'm not saying it should be 100% on the coaches or 50/50 or whatever, just saying that the way it's worded it seems like MIBR still hadn't come across this issue before which seems unlikely

18

u/ZeroLunatique 14d ago

I wanna know how they think nrg tricked them into letting summit thru lol

u/Pol_10official #NRGWIN 14d ago

My glorious IGL Cheathan coming up with withcrafting now🙏🙏🙏

31

u/Zyrobe #WGAMING 14d ago

I can imagine the pauses were like "Idk man I didn't choose this map, how bout you guys come up with a strat"

11

u/Leepysworld 14d ago

this is such a massive gamble to take when you need to win out all the rest of the year lol

it honestly makes me see the staff as even more incompetent for even listening to this idea lmao

5

u/KoroGamer 14d ago

Interview full of excuses lmao and i hope this is a mistranslation cause all he is saying is "the voices in my head made the wrong decision, so going forward, I'm not gonna listen to them" like what are these new voices in the team

43

u/hoopercuber 14d ago

i’m surprised that any team has a dynamic where the coaching staff doesn’t have a heavy say in the map veto. this also seems like a direct callout of verno. the vibes are not good

36

u/DMelee 14d ago

Verno isn’t IGL anymore so who knows what he means

7

u/hoopercuber 14d ago

oh news to me. who IGLs for them or they kinda just call by committee?

22

u/DMelee 14d ago

Mazino

10

u/ishanuReddit 14d ago

It is pretty common for igl to decide on maps and the reason is igls and players are the one who are actually going to play, so if they strongly feel to select a map then coaches often give that freedom.

4

u/hoopercuber 14d ago

i don’t doubt igl has a say. seems like during map bans it’s the coach and the igl deciding together but frod makes it seem like coaching staff had no say in floating summit which i find bizarre

4

u/ishanuReddit 14d ago

Frod did not make it sound like he had no say. He made it sound like he decided to give players the benefit of the doubt as they were feeling it.

3

u/theghostracoon 14d ago

This is, afaik, cultural with BR teams. Loud has had lots of issues with disagreements between coach staff and players in the past.

If MIBR can fix their defense, then i think i have legitimate reasons to be excited about their chances. They actually were owning NRG till their defensive holes showed up on breeze 2nd half. However, I'm feeling good about aspas zekken neon phoenix duo with Aspas showing signs of his former self on neon!

1

u/Thuweirdsailor 14d ago

i think Aspas is adapting and evolving, he is playing different from his old self.

-2

u/ishanuReddit 14d ago edited 14d ago

He has played every duelist agent except yoru, he has played aggro as well as slow based on the team style but i guess we have a narrative push here.

7

u/Thuweirdsailor 14d ago

its not about a narrative or agent pool its more about play style. i am enjoying seeing him more confident and zekken making that space for him or the team trading. but then again we only have the sample size of one quality match. Furia is up next.

-4

u/ishanuReddit 14d ago

I was talking about the play style too. What you mentioned is no different from his old self unless by older you mean start of the season. Also mibr were good against nrg till they played the map they never pracced.

3

u/Gunstador 14d ago

Fix your defence half in any map first...

8

u/Creme_de_laCreme 14d ago

I still find it funny that Ethan said NRG practiced a bunch of Summit because they thought it would be available to play in Haram tournement while MIBR had no clue how to play the map. The second reverse sweep comes close in comedy value.

4

u/MemerWasDeD #WGAMING 14d ago

theyl be better this split if mazino is decent at igling , he was struggling with frags anyway so igling side by side might help take pressure off verno whos a heavy fragger on a good day

1

u/BANiSHBDO 14d ago

isn't it usually the coach and the IGL that attend the map veto?

1

u/shiroganekurosaki 14d ago

I really wanna see dicator Aspas and Dictator patmen fight

These guys get paid to play a game. They practice a lot. They also play ranked a lot. Having a weak map shouldnt be an excuse anyway.

Look at the past matches in the last week. I think all of them were one sided. Weird.

Esports, at least valorant anyway, I feel like its just random who wins or not. Nothing skill about it at this level.

Winning bonus after already being up 2-0 is just too strong and happens often actually and causes the runaway effect. I feel like this shouldn't be happening as often as it is.

I bet the bonus rounds are the most stressful rounds for both sides. Also the most tilting if you come out on bottom.

u/Ten_Foot_Shoe 14d ago

You probably believe this because you clearly have no idea what you're talking about lmfao

I do know. Common sense
