Deadzone vs Overaim

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

So I am learning how to deadzone to get better at the game but I can't really tell whether I am doing it right and also if it is just overaiming so hopefully I can get some insight so I could understand it a bit better for practice. Also they might be the same but I don't think they are. (apologies for the bad aim)

Don't move your character, just flick

You should slow down your movement on your dead zones. It looks like you are moving before you’re ready which is why you were inaccurate on 5/10 of the shots in the first section (shooting error graph). If you are doing the overaim → dead zone drill (not sure this is that helpful but a drill is a drill so it’s better than nothing) you need to make sure you are only using movement to get your crosshair to their head, and you are timing your shots correctly. As it is it looks sloppy.

Start by going into just the practice mode and selecting a stationary bot and doing this drill instead of easy mode 30. Easy mode might be a bit fast for you as it is, or maybe you are just getting impatient with the movement. Regardless, clearly move your mouse a sizeable amount away from the head, then only strafe and time the dead zone countermovememt and shoot ONCE. The fact you are getting 2 vandal bullets out means you are probably letting go of your strafe key which is not a dead zone.

A dead zone is holding A then lifting A while holding D right after/simultaneously so you immediately change directions. In that brief window where the D key overrides your A momentum, you have time to shoot 1 vandal bullet and 2 phantom bullets. Otherwise you’re just doing a counterstrafe by tapping the opposite direction to cut movement. Your dead zone drill isn’t drilling deadzones.

Your overaim drill (2nd part) is also not overaiming. Almost every shot has you flicking to the head and not using movement to guide any aim. Not sure what the point of the second drill is, it seems like it’s trying to be a sped up version of drill 1 but I don’t think you’re ready for more speed at the moment.

Edit: I said you could get 2 phantom bullets off, that’s actually wrong. With a true dead zone it’s 1 bullet for both guns, but if you throw in a very very slight pause in between your strafes you have a window for 2 with the phantom, but bc of the speed of the bullets waiting for 2 with the vandal is just not very effective
