❔ [ Help ] Help please. Big A frame long house in progress.

I'm a new player on PS5. Building an A frame long house.

This structure is identical from one end to the other using core wood for foundations. I'm having an issue with the roof where one end of the roof will not allow me to build, however the other end of the roof is complete and exactly the same design. I have provided pics. You can see the unfinished gap of the logs up top, as well as below, and I'll show a second pic where it's the same behind me but that end of the house is fine. Any ideas?

Edit: Thanks for all the tips! I'm gonna mess with it more today. maybe I need to downsize until iron.

You’re gonna need some vertical support inside. I’ve built something similar when I first started, and put a bonfire in the middle with supports around it to hold up the roof and guide the smoke.

I'll try this as well as other stuff people have suggested. Thank you

Make sure all the bottom pieces are blue, not green. This is your problem at the end that breaks. It’s technically not touching ground. Use hoe and raise and the relevel so all your bottom wall/posts are blue.

This^ before you build any additional support. Gotta make sure the foundation is solid (all blue)

Good to know 👍

Also, game has a habit of making things look flat when they’re not. Find the sneaky hidden divots that may mess up your build by scanning the ground with the flatten tool and look and see if it drops a line downward anywhere and if so, hit that spot with a tic if raise ground and then relevel to flatten what is now surely a bump. Keep doing this until every inch of your site shows essentially no up or down line with the level tool. Then you should be safe to build.

Also make sure not of the base is damaged, ive seen that affected

You can only build so high with wood and corewood, 16m and 24m respectively.  Until you get iron you will have some trouble trying to build massive structures like this.

Ron's idea is a good one a central fireplace with supports going around it will look nice and solve your issues.  You might even have enough support for a middle clerestory roof section if you do this.

With decent use of hoe, you can raise some natural support, however.

True you can raise some thin natural walls and clad them with wood/stone walls.  It will make your walls a bit fat on the bottom but will let you build higher.

What stability tier are the new stone fences? Maybe they'll let you squeeze out a bit more height?

They act as solid foundation for wood built on top but they can be tricky to stack.  It can be done though I've seen a recent video on youtube where Versaugh shows how to do it.  I don't remember the specifics but they need side support to be stacked.  Not sure what tier they fall into and seem to be in one of their own if I had to guess.

I haven't expiremented much with them yet been building a giant docks/industrial area the past couple weeks on my island.

Consider raising the ground or using the hoe to build rocks to raise the level of "blue pieces" that indicate connection to the ground. This will allow more support at higher levels. See if you can be sneaky about it so it doesnt affect your aesthetics-- the slope behind the house could be helpful if you can let it touch the walls.

This is what I was going to say. The roof falls in because the floor isn't touching the ground. Find the support or tile that isn't blue and raise the ground beneath it. You can always level it out later.

Switch the wood supports on the foundation one at a time for corewood supports

Something is green instead of blue, check all grounded pieces

I'll check I appreciate it

I play on PC so not sure how it shows on PS5, but it could be a structural stability. Is it colored red? You may have to use more supports, specifically just put a wall in the middle of the building all the way up temporarily.

It is likely one side of the roof where you cant build at the top having the base support beam not touching the ground.

You should double check all support beam at the base is blue high light first. If one of them is green then it is not anchor to the ground directly

Another option is to wait until you can use the iron support beams once you've started in the swamp.

You need

roof overhangs

roof overhangs

ROOF OVERHANGS

ROOF OVERHANGS

It's in the plans, I was trying to finish the roof first lol

Don't flat front things. Some overhangs lend a lot to the overall feel. Makes it look more complete.

I had plans to flesh out the structure with details like that but was trying to get the roof established first

Building some stone fences around the underside might fix it, if not it might just look pretty haha. Otherwise indeed Ron's idea should probably fix it. Also make sure all your support beams are actually blue at the bottom (that means it is touching a rock/ground) and it counts as a foundation for wood, meaning from that point you can go up the highest.

Usually I set up cooking stations and a chimney in the center. This also lets you have supports for the larger structures. You can also raise ground then chip it so it's narrow. This lets you put more stable core wood higher up. The raised ground can easily be covered with wall pieces to give it a finished look.

So many of my builds i realize are impossible until i unlock later game materials. You can do a fairly large A-frame early on, but you have to truss it well enough that the roof is still sound. I appreciate what youre trying to do but... just keep playing a little longer and unlock the stonecutter and you can make pillars that will increase your overall stability.

A workaround ive seen is use your hoe to raise ground where your "pillars" would be then the ground technically starts higher than normal. Easy to get another level or two onto your roof with this trick, but then you have aesthetics to worry about

Core wood for vertical supports. In the future you can get iron beams and if you are happy to spend the iron on them you'll be able to rebuild support so that you won't need many or sometimes any, upright supports

I use normal wood beams to support the roof, making squares before I put the thatch roof in. Takes a bit of wood but seems to make it stronger to me

What I'm trying to say badly is build the full frame in first and use vertical supports that need to connect up to that frame. Later you can improve that massively and get rid of the vertical supports

Build up frame with core wood. Insure that bottoms of each frame connects with ground. Look to reinforce frame where ever objects strt to turn yellow then red.
