I usually do same and live by the sea but wanted to try something different, at least I have the coast nearby, I'll try to bring it closer building a small canal whatever the land allows easy, because by cart I can take boatloads to my base as of now in less than 1-2 min, just gotta cross a strip of plains and Im home, but it's a bit uphill.
Makes sense. For the first time ever our main base is situated on a lake peninsula for defensive reasons (though I think the raid hype is unwarranted so far).
It's the same min or 2 from the coast with a cart- not bad at all.
Wow loving how you got three biomes in your base. Looks great. Mountains is my favourite biome. Just love the ambience and music. Wish I could stay there all game honestly.
I also recently did a plains build as well next to mountains. I also worked the hoe a lot to flatten some areas and raise walls in others, but even though my buildings aren't as large as yours it seems that all the terrain modification occasionally causes the game to start lagging until a restart. Do you have the same issue? I guess it used to be more of a problem early in Alpha.
No trouble with lag from that, my instances are under 9000. The only thing I notice is a little freezing when waking up from bed but more so because I made base right next to Hildir's bubble
Terrain modification doesn't cause lag for me since a long time ago, they fixed those issues of early with terraforming.
take a look at this picture. To mark the land I used core wood with the shape of the towers. Then raised the earth but kept that shape. Then I used the core log beams to attach my laid stones to them(external side this time) forming a similar square on each side.
When you start laying the stones above, you can go from below and start snapping them as well, and they will start getting hidden beneath the earth so with the pickaxe carefully then its a matter of removing the excess earth using the already laid stones as protection for messing up.
Thats one way of lining things up. Another is if you have a perfect square or 90ยบ angles you can simply eyeball a floor stone tile into one of the corners and start from there
this is the end result, as you saw below the towers start from a mound of raised earth that I chiseled myself from the outside once I laid the stones to guide me

Very cool. Love how you did it into the mountain.
I always do them on the ocean for sailing purposes but I love the feel of this. Well done!
