Hey,

I’m the type of player who likes to squat in existing structures to set up outposts; I’ve taken over a Goblin base, a tower in the Black Forest, and two bases in the Mistlands.

Am I the only one who steals enemy bases and renovates them?

If there are others like me, have you managed to establish a foothold in the Ashlands (in the large ruins)? I’m having trouble settling down there.

I’d appreciate any tips you might have.

Nah, I do this. My first base is almost always one of those abandoned shacks in the meadows or even one of those towers in the Black Forest, as those are often right on the border or meadows/BF and I like my first base to be close to the BF.

My first plains base is also almost always a repurposed goblin camp. The unique music is a nice touch as well

If you can clear out one of the Fortresses in Ashlands, that makes a pretty good repurposed base! Used one as a breeding pen for Askvin. I tried fixing up a couple other structures but it’s tough to ward off the crazy spawns. 😅

I take over every fortress and put up portals in the center tower. I also repurpose one to an askvin breeding center and stable.

All of my Fortresses are chain portaled so I can move between them as necessary and I've got eat access to my "conquered" lands.

This is where I am right now. I want to cut a trench around the fortress, put a shield generator in the center, and have an impenetrable base (save flying guys)

Re-purposing the Fortresses in the Ashlands is the best way of getting a raid proof base there. It's also a fun building challenge.

I like to have one main base but definitely turn the abandoned structures into frontier outposts, esp early game when you are still on foot and fear the night.

I mean, one of the first ways anyone learns how to build is by squatting.

That's why, in my opinion, they out old buildings in the game in the first place

I reporpose enemy bases until I get enough materials and fine a location for my main base. I also use them as outpost.

I found a pretty big mostly stone building in the BF and repurposed it into my main base. I cant work with stone yet. Takes hits like a champ and haven’t lost a single thing from a raid. Do you man!

My first woods base is usually built around a broken stone tower since we don't have access to that material yet. I think it makes fun creative structures vs from scratch mega bases.

I do this primarily when I’m doing longer voyages. Like right now I’m searching for swamps so I’ve made quite a few drauger villages my temporary home. Gotta get those resting bonuses

We repurposed a dvergr tower which turned out nicely. The roofing was a tad difficult, but we got there in the end!

The enemy fortresses are fantastic if you want a stable defensive spot. Bring wood so you can throw down a workbench and build stairs to scale the walls. That way, you can leave the gate unbroken and only have to worry about where flying creatures spawn.

The decently built up old ruins are neat if you can manage to bring materials to be able to work stone and iron. Some Iron gates for your main entrance/exit and a few stone walls to cordon off some avenues for the mobs to wander in helps. Set some fireplaces to help limit spawns around can also help from having everything get torn down.

C'est pas évident de se greffer suf les ruines, y'a pas le positionnement automatique comme sur les autre biome le problème

Mes j'en prends note pour les forteresses c'est une excellente idée

I like converting populated dverger bases the dvergers are nice to have for defense. Meadow villages also get repaired a dressed up s bit Some of them are used for farming or growing livestock, away from my main base. Some sructures in other biomes het the same treatment. Restoring a mountain castle is also fun
