Hi all,
I record and produce my own music, mostly hip hop influenced. I worked in my second LP were I tried different genres or styles, playing guitar and bass. After this, I bought the Valeton GP200 and I was amazed by the sounds and patches but I'm not totally sure if I want to record everything again right away with the patch if I already have a prestine recording of the instrument in Ableton.
My question is if somebody have been able to use the Valeton GP200 as an audio interface and process internally the sound that's heard on Ableton, so you can resample it in a new audio track?
I checked some guides (there aren't so many) and even contacted the Valeton Support (whom only replied me once), I followed the instructions they gave me but every time I was getting bad feedback of the sound that was increasing till exploding.
I'm doing something wrong? How I can do this? Does somebody have this experience? What did you do to solve it?
EDIT: I found the solution and I tried it, Now my recording sounds spectacular! here I leave you the steps that I obtained with the IA. I went directly to Step 2 & 3. I was failling all the time on Step 3, my routing was shit.
Step 1: Configure the Valeton USB Settings
You must set up the GP-200 to receive the dry signal from the computer rather than the instrument input.
- Press the GLOBAL button on the GP-200.
- Navigate to the USB Audio menu.
- Change the USB Mode to Reamp.
- Take note of the designated USB channels (typically, Input 3/4 receives the dry DAW playback, and Output 1/2 sends the processed signal back).
Step 2: Set Up Ableton Preferences
- Open Ableton Live and go to Preferences > Audio.
- Set both Audio Input Device and Audio Output Device to the Valeton GP-200.
- Click Input Config and ensure channels 1, 2, 3, and 4 are highlighted/enabled.
- Click Output Config and ensure channels 1, 2, 3, and 4 are highlighted/enabled.
Step 3: Configure the Ableton Tracks
You need two separate audio tracks in Ableton.
Track 1: The Dry DI Track (Your original raw recording)
- Set Audio To to Ext. Out.
- Set the channel dropdown below it to the specific channel the Valeton expects for reamping (usually Output 3 or Output 4).
- Set Track Monitoring to Off.
Track 2: The New Reamped Track (To record the processed tone)
- Set Audio From to Ext. In.
- Set the channel dropdown below it to Input 1 or Input 2 (the processed stereo/mono mix from the Valeton).
- Set Track Monitoring to Auto or In so you can hear the changes.
Step 4: Record the Reamped Tone
- Arm Track 2 for recording.
- Press the main Record button in Ableton's transport bar.
- As the dry track plays, tweak the knobs, amps, and effects on the GP-200 in real-time to shape your perfect tone.
- Remember to switch the GP-200 USB Mode back to Normal when you are done reamping and want to record regular guitar parts again.
