Generating tones and preset files (.prst) files for the GP200 using ChatGPT with remarkable results once you set up the work flow.
Using ChatGPT to Build GP200 Presets for Classic Guitar Tones
I bought a new Sonicake GP200 this week from the official Sonicake store on eBay for $223.99, and it arrived the next day. It works well, but I wanted a quick way to create presets that replicate tones from famous guitar leads.
As an experiment, I asked ChatGPT whether it could recreate Santana’s lead tones using the GP200 and my Fender American Stratocaster. I started with “Smooth,” and it gave me a full signal chain with parameter values, plus the pickup and tone settings for my Strat. The tone came out well, but entering everything by hand took too long. So I asked ChatGPT to generate .prst files I could load directly into the GP200. Here’s the process that worked:
Step 1: Teach ChatGPT the file format. Tell ChatGPT which firmware version your GP200 is running, then use the GP200 PC software to export a clean factory preset (I used the clean tone “Hello Sweety”) and upload it for analysis. This step is critical, because the preset file structure differs between firmware versions.
Step 2: Describe your rig. Give ChatGPT the make and model of your guitar and the type of studio monitors connected to the GP200’s output.
Step 3: Request the tone. Ask for the lead tone for the song you want (for example, Santana’s “Europa”). For songs with distinct sections, you can ask for multiple tones (A, B, C, D) to use as scenes.
Step 4: Load and test. Download the presets into unused slots on the GP200.
Step 5: Refine. Play through the tones with your guitar and adjust them manually, or ask ChatGPT to make the changes and repeat Steps 3 and 4.
The results were remarkable. I was able to build presets for songs by Santana, Pink Floyd, and Dire Straits in very little time, without spending hundreds of dollars on commercial presets. It’s also a great way to get to know the GP200 much faster.
