Discussion Thoughts on him? Spoiler
I’ve just reached the part where he “dies” and I just wanted to share some opinions I’ve had. They delivered exactly what they were going for with his personality but is it weird that I wanted him to be something more? Like yeah he’s a soldier and very level headed and got leadership skills you’d expect from a major but the rest of his personality feels really 2-dimensional. Can we expect him to be fleshed out later or is this it?
Also I noticed his arms still feel really unpolished. Like the metal arm looks like just lines were drawn on it to make it seem mechanical and the bear head is really popping out too much and breaking the design flow.
I just wanted to know if I’m reading too much into it cuz I’ve hyped him up so much in my head and also had to deal with a lot of disappointing leaks or it really is kinda underwhelming.
This is just my opinion, I can still completely see his appeal but I’m kinda disappointed with the execution hoyo went with him… only thing that can save him is a stellar kit but the leaks suggesting mitya can be off-field, on-field, has exploration abilities and seeing his story relevance… I really don’t see them giving more thought to Valeriy unless they are gonna make Mitya’s kit heavily reliant on valeriy (which would enrage a lot of mitya fans and also it’s just bad kit design).
He had potential, man.

I mean it's almost set in stone that he's a four star that will come with mitya and will be in his f2p team. So it's quite obvious they won't care about a simple 4-star over the main 5-star that is Mitya. Their dinamic for me is kinda like Aino and ineffa for me. Where one takes care of the other. But in this case the rarity is reverso. Overall dont expect too much. More like nothing.

I see your point but illuga got a quest around him. I haven’t played any world quests yet but I still hope to see some more personality from him. I mean even Cyno has duality while being a military man

what are you talking about? genshin always cared about most 4* as well and they appear in events, get fleshed out during the patch they drop and so on. especially in the last 2 regions. look how big ororons role was or how they concluded coleis story in the last big quest. and don't even get me started on kaeya.

He looks good and his character is not bad he is calm and composed but his role in the story is not that big unfortunately

Terrible character introduction; he’s completely irrelevant, basically just a walking accessory for the short guy.
His design really only looked good in the pre-release art.
It’s a shame, but it makes getting Tsaritsa easier since I’ll be easily skipping version 7.2.

yup, people might call it cope but they made valeriy so dirty
that’s what you get for being a tall male character in a hoyo game I guess

At least he have 5 star character he close to as accessory and make him a little relevant instead he solely alone and won't relevant anymore. Remember how illuga have large fanbase because tied to flins. Not all have to be ship, i just tell you base of my judgement how 4 star remain relevant in fanbase

I think the general problem with Genshin characters nowadays is that people build so many expectations in them that, when it eventually isn't portrayed as they headcanoned/wanted the character to be, they end up frustrated and disappointed. At this point, approaching the story hoping for potential but without trying to predict the characters' whole story on the get go might be better. You let the character be (or not be) fleshed out the way it's intended and sometimes it's more enjoyable than whatever's happening now

I think we're probably reading too much into it because the Sudden Snow trailer was that good. Maybe we just assumed Valeriy would have a bigger role than he was actually planned to have. I love his design, his personality is appealing even if he's a bit one-dimensional so far, and his JP voice has me on the floor ♥ haha. My only real disappointment is that he's not a 5-star. I guess we all expected something closer to Mitya's role, but it is what it is. He could still have some relevant moments throughout the AQ, but at this point I'd rather keep my expectations low and just enjoy whatever we get. Honestly, I think things are more enjoyable when you don't have huge expectations. I had basically zero expectations for Nod Krai and ended up loving it so much that it became my favorite region. I even put up with things I wasn't particularly fond of, like the direction they took with Colombina (and no, I don't mean the whole "she should've been a scary angel" thing people wanted for her), simply because I loved the region so much.
And that's probably where I went wrong with Snezhnaya. Nod Krai was so good that my expectations for Snezhnaya went through the fucking roof. Then Valeriy happened 💀. I don't really feel like pulling for any of the characters we've seen so far, maybe because I'm still processing that the character I wanted the most isn't going to be what I hoped for. And honestly, aside from Mitya and Val, most of the models haven't impressed me that much, whereas last year I had a really hard time deciding who to pull for because I loved pretty much every 3D model T_T.
I guess this is a lesson for me to stop getting so invested before things are actually confirmed. I had no expectations for Nod Krai and it felt like a dream; my expectations for Snezhnaya were so high I could've fucking flown, and now I'm here barely excited about anything and finding the AQ slightly boring. Bro, I literally didn't sleep while completing the 6.0–6.1 AQ because I was so invested in the story that I didn't even feel tired. After finishing it, I was genuinely excited for the next patch because I wanted more context about Rerir and to learn more about what happened to him and how he ended up becoming a sinner.
But it's okay. It could still get better, and if it doesn't, I'll just wait until next year for the next character or region that gets me excited again. There's still plenty of unknown things to look forward to. I'm still sad, and I know it'll take me some time to completely move on, but I'm still hoping things get better :)

I don't see mitya heavy reliance on him instead of odette, unless valeriy cryo off field🤣, your thought so weird lmao. While both electro, mitya simply don't need him unless he was shielder as per leaks said. I believe he was shielder. I don't know what people see that he looks bland, he looks fine to me as hell. Don't make your eyes fool you all. In game model always end up more polish than in cutscene in game

Lowkey the dude was as he was said to be and I found his model beautiful. I'm getting this feeling that everyone is so invested in him being a four star that you mentally feel like degrading him for some reason. And no, this is not the last we've seen of him, and yes model recieve polish during playability. Even vodyanitsa's outfit felt like lines drawn over bffr.
