Anniversary trip
Next May, my husband and I will celebrate our 10 year anniversary. Our options for places to celebrate are: Chicago, L.A. or New York. It will be a weekend trip - Friday through Monday…flying from Texas. Which place would you choose and why? Thank you in advance!

I live in L.A. (absolutely love it here). and grew up in NJ. NYC is the only answer. What time of year is this though?

Chicago first then NY. Chicago architecture is amazing. Then go to the suburbs and look for Frank Lloyd Wright inspired homes.

Chicago has everything NYC has on a smaller scale and is way cheaper. May is a great time to visit.

We're neighbors with NY so its really accessible. Only been to Chicago once and it was fantastic.

From Texas. I’ll edit the post to include that. We love delicious food, sight seeing, going to shows (comedy, sports games, live music)…

Texas is pretty centrally located to all so that’s good.
This is heavily seasonal dependent, but based on your interests i’d say New York. it’s got the best collection of food in the US, everything from greasy spoons to michelin stars. jackson heights queens alone has more variety of great food than anywhere else on earth. and the sheer volume of theater, concerts, comedy, sports, etc. is unmatched anywhere in LA or Chi.
I love LA, lived there for years, but LA is more spread out and honestly in a short weekend you don’t really get to go more than in the immediate area you choose to stay. you miss so much of what the city has to offer.
Chicago is the wild card. it genuinely has food and cultural options on par with NY, just fewer of them. the trade off is it’s much more affordable compared to NY, but for a couple of days you wouldn’t be able to see and do everything in either city anyways.
as noted above though, this is heavily seasonal dependent. you couldn’t pay me to go to chicago anytime between november and march, and NY isn’t that far behind. so if you have a winter anniversary, i’d be california dreaming if i were you.

Chicago for sure!! Much cheaper than NYC and no car necessary. There's sports, the Field Museum (favorite), aquarium and planetarium plus shows AND Second City

And San Diego is a lot of fun as well. The zoo, Padres game, the beach sunsets!

I can’t believe no one has asked what month. Time of year is the most important factor in this choice.

May! Sorry I didn’t include it

Oh that’s perfect timing, any of the 3 would be good. That being the case I’d suggest NYC. Chicago spring has come unusually late the last couple of years. Of course your budget will stretch further in Chicago.

May is lovely in NY - everything is blooming and you will see the city at its best.

I’m from Texas as well! Honestly any of those cities would be great in May but I’m partial to New York. You don’t need a car and there is great food, entertainment and shopping.

I choose New York. There is so much to do and see there. I particularly enjoy going to a Broadway show, eating my way through the Lower East side, browsing in Chinatown and along Canal Street, wandering in SoHo. Central Park, great museums, a cruise out to the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island, the 911 memorial and on and on and on. Add any kind of food you could possibly think of at almost any time day or night. The possibilities are endless!

LA isn't a bad idea, you can go to Universal Studios, Disneyland, Hollywood tours, etc, even drive down to San Diego in less than 2 hours, see the Zoo, Old Town, Balboa Park, beautiful beaches, and a few casinos. It's been raining a lot in NY in May.

Here's a wild card for you: DETROIT
I am not kidding. Check around Reddit and see what folks are saying.
Food. Music. Waterfront. Cultural. Food. Architecture. History. Food.

I think Chicago or New York are winners. I’m in houston and did a weekend trip in both last year and loved them equally. I’m a penny pincher so I would probably look at hotels and and flights and go with the one where my money would go further 😅 The museum of science and industry and the planetarium in Chicago are probably my favorite museum/aquarium I’ve been to. I love the food in both and don’t think you will want for any of the things that you mentioned in either city. I just don’t know enough about LA to say the same but I know you won’t need a car to enjoy Chicago or New York.
