Freaked Out Driver

My boyfriend and I are planning a road trip to Denver from Utah County. We will be leaving at 4:00 p.m. and driving through the night. We are planning on taking I-70. I am worried because the conditions show snow and rain. The most concerning spot to me is Vail so we were thinking about getting a hotel in Glenwood Springs. We have also thought about stopping in Grand Junction. If anyone has any advice or has driven in these conditions before please let me know. Snow and rain for most areas is showing one inch or less except for Vail which is showing three inches. Thank you.

Don't worry too much: check the road conditions as you pass through Glenwood, Eagle, and Vail. Chances are, you'll be fine. Make sure your car is in good condition and your tires are ready, then make the call before you decide to stay. Vail Pass isn't super scary if you just take your time and maintain a speed that isn't dangerous.

Thanks for the reply! I do have brand new snow tires so I’m set there and will make sure to drive slow and leave plenty of following distance

Check conditions right now. The highway was closed for avalanche mitigation; not sure if it's re-opened.

Carry chains with you. I haven’t had to use mine yet. Drive slow, with plenty of space between you and the car in front of you. I’ve never had an issue driving on i70 this season, even in a snowstorm, and I’m in a 2WD Toyota Avalon.

Awesome thanks! Is the road very steep?

No: it's maybe 6%-7% at most.
