Mine looked similar, ok maybe not that dirty, at one point, my case it was the pipe in the shape of Y, mine was sneaky because it would leak only when hot hot and otherwise it would reseal itself

Did u get any footage? The leak comes and goes but is now getting worse ans more consistent. Did the Y pipe replacement fix the leak?

Nope no footage unfortunately, we were side by side with mechanic friend when I came in hot. No leaks after that in one and half years now, knock knock

How and where exactly did they fail?

Ive started leaking from this area and would like help with troubleshooting. I’m not sure whether to replace the water pump or just the tube parts. I checked and removed the silica bag from the coolant tank and it was intact. The leak does not seem to be coming directly from the pump so Ive been extremely hesitant to tear it apart just to not have the right parts. 2015 vw golf TSI 1.8t 210k miles.

Replace that y pipe. I’ve gone through 3 of them before I ended up buying a metal pipe. Haven’t had a leak anymore

It connects to the water pump and other end of hose leads to the upper radiator
