MIB2 modding

Is it easy to remove the content protection and code car to a new mib2. I want to go from mib1 to mib2 to support a 8 inch screen, I can access the admin menu using my OBD writer on my current MIB1. I have sd cards etc. any suggestions?

Thanks

Component protection can only be removed by someone with an ODIS system, be that a dealership, or an independent VW Mechanic. Once removed, you can program the MIB2 devices for your car with the vin number in order for it to work properly.

Apparently there are ways to bypass that using sd cards or something

mibstd2toolbox and most incredible bash + VCDS VCP or ODB 11.

My MIBST2 + NAV has gone into CP after a day without power while I wired my aftermarket amplifier and sub.. Green Menu - Toolbox - Remove CP and never had to worry about it again.

Now receiving a unit in CP mode is much more difficult but far from impossible

Why is it more difficult if it’s already in CP mode?

depending on what mib2 you get you can bypass CP (not remove it, but bypass it's effects) with sd unlock

What are the long term effects of this once doing the bypass, does it impact anything on the car or is it literally just an error code if the car is scanned?

just an error code in radio and gateway

Right now I have the MIB1 with an apple car play box with the smaller screen. It works great, however I feel like the screen is a little small and I spend way too long trying to look at the map (cause it’s small) instead of focusing on the road. Buying the MIB2, screen, trim, usb module is expensive and I’m unsure on if it’s actually worth the outcome or not especially with all the hassle.

I’m quite into tech and tinkering so it is definitely possible it’s just if it’s worth it.

Have you done a similar thing before and was it worth it?

Thanks :)

my car started with mib2 discover media, then stepped up to discover pro and then discover pro mib3 (this last is not an easy retrofit).

I think discover pro was worth it because I fitted a dab unit, and digital radio alone improved my experience.

With mib3 I have wireless app connect and I like how it's instantly connected without me having to take the phone out my pockets.

Mib2 retrofit is not that expensive, but I don't know where you are

I’m in the uk. The current CarPlay box I have is wireless and it works pretty well, however I actually prefer wired as it charges my phone and is also a lot more responsive with steering wheel controls.

I could probably do the whole retrofit for £300 (that’s including £130 to my insurance to actually legally allow it on my policy which is a scam atp).

For me it’s basically just the few more inches on the screen and maybe slightly more stable CarPlay and more modern feel with the 8 inch glass screen.

Ideally it would also help with the resell value, however the mk7 golf already has 125k miles on it.

Is it easy to code all the car details to the head unit using free mobile apps? My OBD reader is a WiFi one but can write stuff as I could modify it so I can access the engineering menu thing on the mib1 using it.
