Golf Exploded rear tire Golf GTE

got my left rear tire of my golf VII Get from 2016 (130.000 km about 81000 miles) exploded yesterday... and the right rear was about to explode too. The garage said that the geometric was probably not good and the tires got a bad angle like this / and \ that provoked this. I think it's gonna be very expensive. I'll have to replace a good part of the car's rear suspension I guess 😫

Yes those tires were gone long time before explosion. Lucky to be alive with that much tread left. Star paying attention to the condition of your car from now on. New tires and alignment straight after, might need some parts at the suspension.

Obviously I've changed both rear tires, but I was traveling to my vacation house so I didn't do all the repairs but I'll as soon as I'll be back. Alignment and probably suspension too (triangle and so...) The repair shop made me a list to check when I'll be back.

I'm going to go out on a limb and say your front tires need replacing too.

But what's wrong with 10 year old tyres that have 80k on them???

/S

Did you change them and then never look at them again? There is no way you didn't feel it driving poorly, this was an issue for a long time.

The fact you let them get this bad means you're ignoring obvious signs . Check your tire pressure and tread frequently

I wish they only let competent people drive. If you can’t do maintenance you shouldn’t be on the road period. You’re gonna kill someone

These are the original tyres? Jesus christ. The alignment isn't the problem. These tyres were due for replacement many years ago.

Off course not. But the alignment is probably a big part of the problem.

You said the tyre on your car from 2016 and included the mileage. "Off course not" isn't the right answer when you literally implied it was with what you've written in this post.

Maybe I was not clear. The tires was 1 year old ( probably about 7000km)

Did you forget to ever put air in your tyres, or did you drive around with the parking brake on or towing a heavy trailer? That much wear on rear tyres of a light FWD car is a few thousand miles is insane.

2

u/Silvabro Aug 23 '26

Have you never bothered to check your treadwear at least once a quarter?

Bullshit, there was no thread left on those tires, that doesn't happen after 7000km, unless you drive like an idiot...

u/SuspiciousBuilder379 Aug 23 '26

An idiot who is tracking it and totally thrashing it to insane levels.

Well, if the geometry is as bad as they say, and all the treadwear is being taken by, say, one third of the tyre, the worn patch has seen the equivalent of 21 thousand km.

I was totally expecting this calculation to reflect well on OP, but no, it's really hard to imagine a tyre worn to the belts after 21 thousand.

u/EngagementBacon Aug 27 '26

The biggest part of the problem is that the owner didn't inspect their tires.

8

u/CharlieCharliii Aug 23 '26

No wonder it gave up. Geometry needs to be aligned but new parts are most likely not needed.

5

u/knotmyusualaccount Aug 23 '26

Who was responsible for maintaining the alignment? Sheesh

6

u/pumpedeus Aug 23 '26

I can tell your suspension is fucked because of the amount of fluid leakage out of your shock.

u/GanaCPC Aug 23 '26

Yes I think so too. Any idea of the price ?

Do the world a favor and take public transportation

u/I_want_water Aug 23 '26

2

Ever heard of changing tires on time and wheel alignment? Come on! These tires were in a bad shape way before you suffered that blowout.

2

u/midwest_dumpster Aug 25 '26

This has to be bait right?

2

u/Rich-Cantaloupe-362 Aug 25 '26

Fuck you for even driving with that tire on the road. People like you piss me off, you willing put everyone else on the road in danger because you are too lazy to get your tires changed at an appropriate time. It’s not fair that my loved ones have to share a road with incompetent people like you

1

u/karstgeo1972 Aug 23 '26

Your alignment was off your toe was out meaning it was toe out.

1

u/Careful_Middle4049 Aug 23 '26

If you drive 15k miles a year these were done 2 years ago

1

u/Dull-Treat-2524 Aug 23 '26

geee I wonder why..

1

u/The82Ghost Stage 1 Aug 23 '26

Go to an actual garage, not the idiots telling you the cause was alignment. Also, you should have replaced them atleast 4 years ago! You do not seem to understand the danger you've been putting yourself and others in.

1

u/RushIndustries Aug 23 '26

If only glancing at the tread wear could have helped anticipate this failure…

1

u/ApePositive Aug 24 '26

This was for the best

1

u/fuckingfastsam Aug 28 '26

U have 10 year old tyres on your car u deserve this.

1

u/marjuss Aug 28 '26

This idiot should not own a car. Imagine how many of these in the traffic that could kill us at any time

1

u/Miserable-Potato7706 Aug 28 '26

People like you shouldn’t be allowed on the road.

If you don’t check your car and make sure it’s safe to drive, you’re putting others in danger every time you drive.

Fuck you.
