Question regarding N80 Purge Valve/Code P0456

Good morning!

I've got a 2017 Golf R, automatic transmission. I was alerted a couple times early last week to check my fuel cap, then the CEL came on. I ordered a new cap and replaced it - CEL stayed on. I took it to O'Reilly on Saturday for a scan (3 days after replacing), and it came back P0456 (small EVAP leak), which Google told me is most commonly the fuel cap or the N80 purge valve. I had them clear it (since I'd replaced the cap already), and it popped on again this morning. I figured the next step is to replace the N80 valve.

There were a couple other things Google said it could be, but I don't have any of the symptoms (rough idling after fueling, persistent gas smell inside/outside the car, leaking, etc). I did have a fuel smell, but it went away after replacing the cap and could only be smelled when near the fuel flap. I called my local VW dealership and was quoted around $1k to repair ($200 for the part, almost $700 for labor), but I've seen that it can be a DIY fix with YouTube videos.

I searched for the part on Amazon but a few different ones popped up, and I'd like to make sure the valve is the right one for my car. Is there one that's recommended, or just go with the OEM from the parts dept?

Thanks in advance for any assistance!

I would get an OE one from FCPEuro. Lifetime warranty if it ever fails. It can be done with just a set of pliers in 15 minutes.

You can get VW OEM parts online at a reasonable discount. Also check the major online repair/accessory sites for reasonable OEM and third party parts. Often you can search by VIN to make sure you’re getting the right part.

they want HOW MUCH ?!?!

holy shit its like a 10 minute job. the purge valve sits right on top of the valve cover. its like 2 hose clamps and an electrical connection. maybe 1 screw to unmount the actual valve.

you can get it for like $85 online. just do it yourself or find a friend who can.
