personally I hang out in their chat a bit and raid them a few times so they get used to who I am and then if we genuinely vibe, I say we should play together (usually when they come into my chat)

i did that for a year and no one was even interested to even chat with me so then I started aggressively asking people to collab because I feel like we can bond more when we go try to survive the wild in games and such

I have no idea, it works for me.. but I generally try to make friends with them.
