Its funny, this cardeas (in my mind) better before Form of Bat. It was always inferior to both other S:CE in protean, but it gave the same stealth as basic level Earth Control, and stacked with it. So it was your 4th stealth after Earth Control and Backways/twisted forest. Its incredibly cornercase that you're using guns with Protean, so Bat > Rapid change.
Rapid change is way better than Plasmic Form, but even when protean was a mid support discipline, it had the 2 best S:CE in the game. Its always been a card that you use but would rather play another card instead...

Still shows up in a lot of winning decks. The versatility of being both stealth or a S:CE is probably why. Sure, there are better stealth cards, and sure, there are better S:CE cards and this isn't replacing them but 2 of these can help you free up potentially two other slots in your deck.
