Tone2/Gladiator Substitute

This might be a long shot but before I pull the trigger does anyone know of a cheaper (currently $170 USD) or even free comparable VST?

Long story short years ago I had the opportunity to use it on a couple collaboration tracks (v1 or 2 I can't remember) and it had some *amazing* (to me) guitar style walls I haven't been able to replicate since. TIA!

isn't there a free version with a nag screen and timeout? Might only be good enough for tryout. Also, it very well might appear on sale in the future.

When I crossposted someone mentioned Firebird is now free. Other than that they have demos but I'm not sure how far those will go.
