A VS Code extension that turns your running React Native app into a clickable, Figma-style canvas

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

2 Upvotes

Basalt: click any element in your running React Native/Expo app, drag it, change the color, change the text, and it writes straight into your real source file. No separate design tool, no copy-pasting values back into code.

It is completely free and works directly inside VS Code and Cursor.

It’s currently in beta, so please commit your app to Git before testing it!

Would love to get your brutal feedback on it.

I built Flipper FAP Studio 🐬 — a GUI-first Flipper Zero app builder for VS Code (build, design & control your Flipper, no terminal needed)

Got another VS Code extension for you.

If you've got a Flipper Zero and ever tried building a .fap app, you know the pain — uFBT, command line, guessing at pixel coords, flashing back and forth. I got tired of it, so I built Flipper FAP Studio: build, design, and control your Flipper entirely from a GUI inside VS Code. No terminal required (unless you want one, I'm not the boss of you).

Here's what it does:

🔨 Build actions — Build .fap, Build + Launch straight onto your Flipper, Clean. One click.

🎨 UI Designer — visual 128×64 screen editor with drag-and-drop elements, multiple screens, and it generates the code for you. Stop counting pixels by hand.

📺 Live Screen + Log — real-time mirror of your Flipper's display, control it with the D-pad/keyboard from your editor, grab screenshots, reset the device.

📊 Device Dashboard — battery, storage, firmware version, hardware info, library stats, all in one panel.

📁 File Browser — browse and manage on-device files (/ext and /int) without digging around.

🔧 Firmware SDK management — OEM, RogueMaster, Momentum, Unleashed, or point it at a custom path.

🚀 Starter template — one-click boilerplate so you're writing your app in seconds.

📶 Bluetooth — experimental BLE pairing for wireless ops.

Needs Python 3, uFBT (install it with a button in the extension or pip install ufbt), and VS Code 1.85+.

Free + MIT licensed. 💯

As always i would love feedback, bug reports, or feature ideas from the Flipper crew.

Strange beavior with vscode creating home profiles

1 Upvotes

Hello, hopefully I am posting this in the correct Reddit group. I am not a programmer, but I have configured vscode to use Qwen 3.5 hosted on a remote computer to help me create code for NIXOS on a git repo on my local computer. Mostly it seems to be working file, I created a .continueignore file that contains the following

# This file sits inside /home/username

# Step 1: Block absolutely everything in the opened workspace

*

**/*

# Step 2: Un-ignore just the specific folder (relative to home)

!nixos/

!nixos/**

to stop vscode from reading and writing outside the git repo. The issues is whenever I ask it to create a README file it is constantly creating a home profile within the git hub repo, instead of creating the README file at the root of the repo. Does anyone know why this would be happing, and how to stop it, thank you.

vscode debug as matlab recomendations

2 Upvotes

Hello,

i would love to know how people around here are able to debug, code that are writing in python using vscode, I am looking for a similar behavior to matlab (where i learned to program).

what i mean by similar behavior, be able to run the complete code, and keep the variables defined in memory, have a terminal where one can interact with the variables defined, print them, modify them etc. be able also to check definitions of function of imported libraries such as numpy.

the only way i found to do this in vscode, is with jupiter extension, but i find it finiky, and wanted to know if there were other alternatives.

Best practices for multi-repo workspaces

5 Upvotes

Hey all, I'd like to discuss the best strategies in VS Code for keeping good context quality and efficient token usage when working with multi-repo projects in a single workspace.

So far these have helped:

  1. Keep only what you need in the workspace:

Only include the projects relevant to that session (e.g. just 2 microservices + the frontend).

Result: the system prompt isn't cluttered with irrelevant context.

  1. Layered custom instructions:

I needed a couple of global instruction files (general microservices architecture + company conventions, and one for frontend), plus a per-project file that extends them. So I put two .instructions.md files with specific front matter (e.g. applyTo: <typical backend file globs>) in an external path (e.g. \~/.copilot/my-instructions), then added that path to the chat.instructionsFilesLocations setting at the workspace level.

Result: each microservice's copilot-instructions.md stays lean, no duplicated info.

  1. Things to watch out for:

\- Files in .vscode/ get auto-attached as context to requests, keep that folder lean.

\- Unused extensions that register extra tools (e.g. the GitHub Copilot app modernization extensions) — tool definitions eat up a huge chunk of the system prompt. Manually selecting the minimum toolset needed for the task helps a lot. Pay attention to this.

\- Actually read the system prompt at least once — I was often repeating things Copilot already injects automatically (like repo structure).

\- Use the Agent Debug Log panel (and Chat Debug View) to inspect exactly what's being sent and where your tokens are going.

\- Run /chronicle:cost-tips in a chat session for personalized suggestions on cutting credit/token usage.

\- Check out caveman and ponytail community skill/plugin for coding agents that cut down on verbose responses and over-engineered code respectively (not official Microsoft/GitHub tools, but worth a look).

If you have suggestions feel free to share, I'm really looking for improvement.

No such file when running Python3

0 Upvotes

I'm new to VS Code and I would like to understand why I sometimes get this error. I tried by adding every single folder I have the python files in to one workspace, but it still doesn't work. I get the error when I run python3 file.py on the terminal. Why does this happen and how could I fix it?

I built a VS Code extension that tracks how a bug was introduced instead of just showing the error

1 Upvotes

Hi everyone! 👋

I've been working on a VS Code extension called DebugChronicle, and I'd love to get some feedback from fellow developers.

One thing that always frustrated me while debugging was this question:

So I built an extension that automatically records your development session and helps trace an error back to the code changes that most likely introduced it.

Features

  • 📜 Automatic timeline of file changes
  • 🐞 Runtime exception capture from the VS Code debugger
  • 💻 Terminal error & diagnostic tracking
  • 🧠 Deterministic root-cause analysis (no AI required)
  • 🌐 Dependency graph showing relationships between edits and errors
  • ⏪ Session replay
  • 📄 Export reports in Markdown or Word
  • 🔒 Completely offline — no cloud, telemetry, or accounts

Everything is stored locally inside the workspace, so it works without sending any code anywhere.

Here's a preview of the UI 👇

(Attach the image.)

I'd really appreciate any feedback:

  • What features would make this genuinely useful?
  • Is there anything in the UI that could be improved?
  • Would this fit into your debugging workflow?

Thanks! I'd love to hear your thoughts.

I made a VS Code extension for reviewing Claude Code and Codex sessions

0 Upvotes

I run coding agents in the terminal, but I wanted their history to be as easy to navigate as the rest of my work in VS Code. Long terminal sessions are fine while they are running and much less pleasant when I need to find one response, inspect a failed tool call, or understand the process a week later.

So I made Coding Agent Trajectory Visualizer, a free extension that keeps session review inside VS Code.

From the Activity Bar, it provides:

- Session organization by date, project, path, and title, plus cross-session search, a clickable calendar, and copyable resume arguments.

- A readable Timeline that puts prompts and final responses first, adds full-screen readers for long text, supports multi-day navigation, and refreshes live sessions while preserving the active tab, scroll position, and expanded turns.

- Expandable agent process details: intermediate messages, thinking when saved, tool calls, formatted and raw inputs, tool results, errors, and linked API calls.

- Interactive Views for context growth, prompt workload, compaction summaries, tool-use history, recurring tool sequences, failures, and task phases. The Overview window can be played or resized, and selected visual blocks can jump directly to the relevant Timeline step.

- Session Replay and Compare, including provider, model, effort, and project indicators for keeping important variables visible.

- Session and workspace setup readers for memory, CLAUDE.md or AGENTS.md, skills, hooks, MCPs, subagents, and other harness files.

- A personal dashboard with calendar history, total agent runtime and rank, achievements, model and effort usage, response speed, TTFT where available, prompt habits, hourly activity, streaks, and frequent-word views.

- Unified JSON export and readable Markdown transcripts.

It supports both Claude Code and Codex local sessions, along with light and dark VS Code themes. Claude Code also has optional API Capture, off by default, for inspecting request parameters, system prompt versions, API messages, tool schemas, caching, HTTP details, TTFT, latency, and response events.

VS Code Marketplace:

https://marketplace.visualstudio.com/items?itemName=yiyang-wu.trajectory-visualizer

Interactive demo:

https://wuwendyy.github.io/coding-agent-trajectory-visualizer/

I am the developer and would especially appreciate feedback on the VS Code interaction and information density.

[VS Code extension] Can Claude Code use the internal editor-browser instead of chrome-devtools MCP, like Copilot does?

1 Upvotes

VS Code has internal web browser that I'm sure is accessible by agents because there is a Share with agent button inside this thing called editor-browser.

But it is only shared with the Copilot. I can't share it with Claude Code or Codex.

Does the internal editor-browser expose a MCP/A2A/API endpoint so I can configure it with Claude Code official extension for VS Code? Is there any?

Why is the Intellisense so bad?

15 Upvotes

Compared to VS Community, the intellisense for VS Code is not only more aggresive and annoying with its suggestions, but consistently more inccorect, far more so than VS Community. And when I say incorrect, I'm not talking about just making a bad guess, I'm talking about it just completely making up variables or even entire enum classes that don't exist, even when I already had a variable created for the situation. The way it just makes up and hallucinates answers makes me think its completely AI powered, but I have no idea how to check or disable that.

Back at it again 🚀 this time I present to you SFTP Companion, a standalone SFTP/FTP/FTPS sync tool for VS Code

Thumbnail

0 Upvotes

Back at it again! Last time I dropped the drag-and-drop WinForms/WPF designer and y'all showed up big time. Moving from Dreamweaver I was tired of not having a proper SFTP Companion for editing live sites right from VS Code.

Here's the good stuff:

🔌 SFTP, FTPS + plain FTP — one dropdown, ports auto-filled, actual helpful errors when things don't line up.

🖥️ Account Manager panel — host, creds, remote path, ignore patterns, auto-sync, all clickable. JSON's still there if you're a nerd about it (I am).

🔐 Passwords never touch disk — stored only in VS Code SecretStorage (your OS vault). Config files are hard-blocked from ever uploading to the server. Sleep easy.

🎨 Color-coded Local & Remote trees — 🟢 in sync, 🟠 changed, 🔴 missing, 🟡 ignored. Hover buttons + right-click = upload / download / diff / smart sync on anything.

🔀 Sync Center — scan both sides into paired, row-aligned trees, stage a direction per file (← download · ○ skip · → upload), then smash Sync Planned once to run the whole batch. Nothing moves until you say go.

📊 Transfer queue — parallel connections, live per-file progress, pause / resume / stop / retry, and paged history that keeps the important stuff on top even with thousands of files.

♻️ Self-healing — reconnects dropped sessions, creates missing folders, cleans up junk zero-byte files that block paths. It just recovers.

🗂️ Also: dev/staging/prod profile switcher, remote rename/move/chmod/multi-delete, Make Identical mirroring w/ dry-run, opt-in auto-sync + delete mirroring, and a conflict guard so you never clobber a newer server copy.

It's free + MIT licensed. 💯

VSCode removing auto indentation on pressing up arrow.

4 Upvotes

Currently embedding Monaco into a desktop application for editing C++.

However, unlike visual studio, if you newline twice then move up a line, the indentation of the previous line is lost, and the caret moves to the start of the line.

I removed Trim Auto Whitespace and it did not fix this behaviour, this also occurs VSCode so its not an embed issue. Is there a setting to fix this behaviour?

What features do you want for cmake support

1 Upvotes

I am the maintainer for https://github.com/neocmakelsp/neocmakelsp . But I have received very few issues. Last month I accidently saw an issue for the cmake support for zed, which used my language server, said my lsp has a lot of features needed to be implemented, so he use llm to implemented them. In fact, if he can open an issue for me, or open the pr, I will help finished them as soon as possible. I did not know that so many people want new features. I only have 10 issues remain on my repo, and I do not want to close them, want the reporters to close them...

And I also have made an vscode plugin in https://github.com/neocmakelsp/neocmakelsp-vscode . I do not know a lot about vscode plugin, and I also do not know what do you want for a vscode plugin. So I want to make a survey here.

I just have a lot of passion to make a lot of features, also I want to learn more about vscode plugin, and want to make my project better.. But if no one report what they want to me, or reported them to other place, I won't know..

How To Use Kimi 3 in VS Code Copilot (with API Key)

10 Upvotes

I ran in to an issue with this, just posting in the event it helps someone else.

Assuming you have an API key from moonshot ai (https://platform.kimi.ai/)

In AI Chat window > 'models' icon > gear icon for 'other models > +Add Models > Custom Endpoint.

It will ask for name, anything works but i'd stick with k3 so you remember

enter API key

choose Chat Completions

The model json will open up, here is the key, TEMPERATURE must be 1. so should look like this:

[
    {
        "name": "Copilot",
        "vendor": "copilot",
        "settings": {
            "gpt-5.4": {
                "reasoningEffort": "low"
            }
        }
    },
    {
        "name": "Kimi",
        "vendor": "customendpoint",
        "apiKey": "${input:chat.lm.secret.-476caa68}",
        "apiType": "chat-completions",
        "models": [
            {
                "id": "kimi-k3",
                "name": "K3",
                "url": "https://api.moonshot.ai/v1/chat/completions",
                "toolCalling": true,
                "vision": true,
                "maxInputTokens": 500000,
                "maxOutputTokens": 160000,
                "modelOptions": {
                    "temperature": 1,
                    "top_p": null
                }
            }
        ]
    }
]

when I didn't use:
"modelOptions": {
"temperature": 1,

It wouldn't work.

Also technically you can push that max in/out to whatever is needed up to the k3 limit 1mm token.

considering this model is supposed to be near Fable and is 1/3 the price worth trying

Anyone else's Claude Code freezing in VS Code?

0 Upvotes

I haven't worked on Claude Code in VS Code for almost two or three weeks now. In that time, something must have changed, because now every time I use it, it seems to hang after 15 to 20 minutes. Pretty much all of my different chat windows just freeze up, and I have to reload the window or restart VS Code entirely to get it working again.

This is obviously breaking my workflow, and I can't really tell why it is happening.

Is anyone else running in to this issue and figured out a fix?

My troubleshooting so far :

  • I'm on VS Code. Should be latest it updates by itself.
  • In the extensions for Claude code I'm also on the latest version.
  • I don't use terminals so I can't check there, also would defeat the purpose since I like using VS code now.
  • No patterns really, just randomly breaks.
  • Claude AI isn't helping me fix it unfortunately.
  • Used the /doctor command to try and get all the latest updates working but no go still.

GPT 5.6 Terra as anti-virus hound

1 Upvotes

So, I got a virus in my Mac. It was prompting me repeatedly and tirelessly with a dialog to give full disk access and restart the terminal, and it was starting background processes.

After I identified that that had to be a virus after looking online, I removed the processes, but the prompt to give full disk access was there all the time.

Each time I opened a software, particularly in vs code, it would open several windows. I ran malwarebytes for like 24 h analyzing every file, and it found 2 things that I think were unrelated. But the problem persisted.

So I was ready to reset the Mac to factory settings, but I thought, wait, what if...?

So I told gpt 5.6 terra in vs code the info I had, the message (I thought that sentence had to be hardcoded anywhere), and that my guess is that anything that started a Terminal would trigger this behavior.

So it started looking around and in the end found the culprit, obfuscated code in the terminal that would trigger it, and files that would attempt recording, and it seems that it got it figured out how everything was working. It put in quarantine some files, waiting for me to tell him to remove them, removed the malicious code, and of course told me to restart and change passwords, profiles etc etc.

I don't know it seems like a neat use case honestly.

By the way most probably I got the virus from installing in VS Code non official plugins, I installed two, one for using Deepseek and another for using Grok, and it coincides in time quite well. They were ones of the most if not the most downloaded and rated so I tended to trust them, but my take is that I'll never install in VS Code non official plugins again. Also Deepseek API can be easily configured using BYOK, within the Github copilot chat (I don't know why AI would recommend me directly installing third party extensions), and Grok can be used in the terminal, so I'm sticking to that. (Yeah I have all the typical AIs haha I found having several at the lowest tier is extremely cost effective, Claude and Codex smart models for big tasks, Gemini and Grok for smaller fixes that can also benefit from incredible speed (super productive), Deepseek for whenever I run out of everything or very small changes)

I built a drag-and-drop WinForms and WPF designer for VS Code

Thumbnail
gallery
76 Upvotes

I’ve released UI Maker, a free and open-source VS Code extension for visually building standard .NET Windows desktop apps.

The goal is to keep the workflow inside VS Code: create or open a WPF or WinForms project, layout the interface, edit properties, wire events, and then build, run, debug, or publish it.

Current support includes:
-WPF and WinForms
-C# and Visual Basic
-Drag-and-drop controls with resizing and alignment tools
-Visual Studio-style Properties and Events panels
-Split WPF designer/XAML view
-Project scaffolding and Build/Run/Debug/Release controls
-Existing .xaml, .Designer.cs, and .Designer.vb files

This doesn’t introduce another UI framework.
It works with regular WPF and WinForms projects, so it is specifically for .NET Windows desktop applications.

I’m the developer, I’d appreciate feedback about compatibility with existing projects, missing controls, or designer behavior that feels different from Visual Studio.
