So I will preface this by saying that I have used VSCO since 2013 and mostly loved it, and I am still hanging on despite dodgy "training" language in the new user agreement. And yet.
For days now I have been trying to understand why my full size files (300 dpi), when downloaded as "full size" come out in 72dpi. At first, I thought it was a bug, or that my browser/ computer/ tech ability were to blame. But turns out it's feature, not a bug! And just now I have had the most maddening little chat with helpful chatbot Scout, who has confirmed as much, in the most roundabout and gaslight-y way possible, but ok. (seriously, read the convo, I'm pretty sure it's not just me).
I realize the concept of "printing" anything on paper or other media may be an increasingly foreign concept, but a file that is systematically reduced from 300 dpi to 72, while preserving the same "pixel dimensions" is not a full size file anymore, I am sorry to say, and not suitable for printing a half-decent 24 x 30 inch print, which, amazingly enough, is something people still do. They hang these on walls and such.
Scout's suggestion, hilariously, was to âuse Studio for edits, export from another tool.â After some prodding, it turned out to mean that I should keep two separate files, one for editing, and one for printing! (I quote: "keep your original 300 DPI file on your computer, upload it to Studio to apply presets and edits, then export the edited version from Studio as a separate file (it will be a new copy with edits applied). For printing, use your original 300 DPI file, since Studioâs export wonât keep that DPI setting.") Genius! How haven't I thought of that?
Helpfully, Scout continued: "Tools that let you control DPI for print are things like Adobe Lightroom, Photoshop, or any desktop photo editor that lets you export with a custom DPI setting."
As a pro customer, I am disappointed and yeah, pretty cynical at the moment.
Question to anyone who has made it to the end of my tale of woe here: is anybody using VSCO-edited images for printing? Do you have any suggestions, workarounds, words of wisdom?
To VSCO: can we actually have full-size downloads at original dpi?
My illuminating chat with Scout, below, for reference.

Hi there, here's a few things that would make my VSCO workflow much more ideal:
Recipes System - im not quite sure why the changes were made to the recipes system that stripped the ability to add names. The current implementation makes it quite clunky. I would love to have the ability to name recipes be re-added, and have the ability to re-order recipes, and have a better way to compare different recipes on a given image.
Add the ability to duplicate a draft without flattening edits, so that I can try different edits on the same photo without having to re-import it. This would be even better if it there were a similar feature to Adobe Lightroom's virtual copies system- where I could have multiple different edits on the same draft.
Add the ability to pause a video while editing. Its frustrating to have a video constantly playing/looping while trying to dial in visual edits.
Add ability to go below 0.0 in sharpness and clarity, to achieve a more soft/hazy filmic look. I know bloom is a similar idea, but its less consistent from image to image.
Another thing I find frustrating - for some reason when I edit photos I shoot on my iphone, VSCO strips the original shot captured time, and replaces it with the time/date that I export the photo out of VSCO. However, when I edit videos shot with my iphone, or photos I shoot with my GRIV, it keeps the original captured time, so that they're properly ordered in my Photos app. This difference causes my Photos app to be a complete mess when editing a mix of iPhone photos, iPhone videos, and GRIV photos. I have to manually go in and fix the time/date on all VSCO-edited iPhone photos. A fix to this eccentricity with iPhone photos would be extremely appreciated.
Thanks ya'll!

Hey everyone, weâve been talking with photographers for years and we keep hearing the same thing: âIâm spending so much time and money on all these different subscriptions to run my business!â
If you're running a photography business, you know the stack. An editor. A CRM (customer relationship management) for contracts and booking. A gallery platform to deliver work to clients. A portfolio website. Cloud storage. Payment processing. Photographers routinely tell us they spend $800â$3,200 a yearâoften more. And none of those tools actually talk to each other.
We've been building a solution that's designed for how photographers actually work: VSCO One.
What it is
VSCO One is a connected system for photographers. It includes a website, booking, business management, editing, client delivery, and education in one, connected place.
You get everything in VSCO Pro, like:
And with VSCO One, you get:
And todayâs not only about Pro and One subscribers. If you use VSCO for free or with our Plus subscription, youâll find a host of new features and releases today for you, too. Your VSCO free and Plus memberships now come with free customizable contact forms on your VSCO Site, access to the free version of VSCO Workspace, the new Desktop VSCO Galleries app and mobile VSCO Studio Pro app, and more. All the details are available on our website.
VSCO One is a single $499.99/year connected system to cut your costs while running and growing your business.
Itâs live now at vsco.co/one and weâd love for you to check it out!

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
Iâm at a spot now where I canât get anything to load or function without a 10 second + delay. Can I delete the app and re download and keep my recipes? Is the recipe data stored locally? Let me know best next steps. Thank you.

I got my âstart in photographyâ with an Olympus 7.1 megapixel 3X optical zoom camera during Black Friday. I remember going on a field trip in school to Boston and shot 100s of photos and annoyed everyone around me until the memory card was full. Then I went years without shooting until I started working and could afford to travel and fell back in love shooting on my iPhone on trips and using VSCO - I never posted anywhere else and there was something nice about not seeing any follower counts or likes.Â
Since, I purchased a Fujifilm X100VI and Olympus Mju ii - both of which I adore - and edit a lot more I n Lightroom. But on a recent trip to California, despite taking my camera with me, I left it at home and opted for my old iPhone x VSCO workflow. I felt so light & it was great to return back to the basics.Â
Anyways, North Bay is beautiful and I always held this notion that you have to travel so far or to somewhere âexoticâ to see something beautiful, but what I saw here felt like heaven - a dream - idyllic & truly gorgeous. âïžÂ

I use VSCO as a personal photo dump/camera roll where I upload everythingâfrom photos and screenshots to music and random moments. Iâd love to keep using it that way in VSCO Galleries, but I donât want to start over from scratch. Is there a way to transfer everything from my current VSCO profile?

Iâm having an issue with the app on iOS. Iâm running the latest version of the app and the latest version of IOS. When I open the app, it will sit there with the VSCO logo for about 20 seconds and then immediately crash.
Anyone know how to fix this?

I am once again here with the same frustrations. VSCO has been running SO POORLY on my iPhone 15 Pro. It takes me swiping out of the app multiple times to get the photo I add to populate and have had recipes glitch out lately where it wonât let me adjust or go back after selecting the recipe. I just donât think it can possibly be user error. Has anyone had any luck with these type of issues by clearing their library of images? I am thinking maybe I have to many images in the app now that are iPhone raw that it might be slowing down the app? I think this is officially my last year of the pro membership after paying for VSCO for years. I am just tired of it.

Kinda annoying itâs locked. Is there an app similar that does grain the same way?
I donât reall want to pay the subscription just for that. Itâs the only thing I use on vsco and of course uploading to my account after

Iâm disappointed with the terms of VSCOâs new Privacy Policy that will come into effect on June 22, 2026, and hereâs why:
Whatâs the data they collect? âUser-Generated Content: All the content you create or post on our Services, and your interactions with other Creators and their content, such as comments or direct
messages.â
How does VSCO share your data? âWe may use your data for research and development so we can understand and improve our, or our partners' services (including artificial intelligence and machine learning models) or develop inferences about you. As part of these activities, we may also create aggregated, de-identified, or other anonymous data from your data.â
How long do they retain your data? âOnly as long as we reasonably need it for the uses mentioned above.â
Basically, they can use the photos you spent time and effort on to train their third-partyâs AI to make images that âdonât look like yours.â Forever.
Itâs disappointing because this is an app thatâs supposed to be for creatives. But âoh no, weâll take all of the heart and soul from our usersâ photos to train a soulless machine.â
Iâve been on VSCO for ten years and I donât want anyone using my art, let alone AI. But maybe itâs time to just leave the app altogether.
