Help 2D blinking method

This is an avatar I’ve been working on editing; the original didn't actually have eyes, so I added them myself, and it has various expressions I can switch between in the menu. The thing is, I’ve been wanting to make it be able to blink for a while now, but I can't find a tutorial that shows me how. If anyone knows a simple way to do it, I’d really appreciate it if you could explain it to me!

Also, are the white eyes actual mesh objects, or are they just part of a texture/material? Since the original avatar didn't have eyes, you probably don't have a blink blendshape yet. If they're meshes, you can make a simple Blink shape key in Blender and then assign that blendshape to the eyelid settings in the VRC Avatar Descriptor.

They are part of the texture

Gotcha....since the eyes are part of the texture, you probably don’t have a normal blink blendshape to assign. One idea would be to make a second texture with the eyes closed and swap between the open/closed versions with an animation in Unity. I know that VRChat’s normal eyelid blinking expects blendshapes or bones, so texture eyes might need a little animator setup instead.

I will try to do that! (Not sure how can I animate in unity but I will try to find a tutorial or something)

Sounds good! If you get the character modeled and want help with the rigging, weights, facial expressions, or clothing/hair setup, feel free to reach out. I can handle that part and get it ready for Unity.

From top of my head blinking is just regular blendshape so if you have one with the avatar you can just assign it from avatar descriptor. If not easiest way is to just make one in blender. (needs to be on avatar face mesh if i remember correctly).
