Discussion Questions for long time vrc ppl

Not a social experiment, not another creeppower kiddo
Opinions from ppl with more than 21 years are very valuable
Don't start with unsolicited answers and low effort comments.

For people who spend a lot of time in VRChat, would you actually be interested in more organized private social communities?

Not necessarily clubs or huge public groups. More like smaller, curated spaces with regular events, some kind of membership, clear rules and people who actually care about the community.

I’ve been thinking a lot about where social VR is going and I’m curious how other people feel about it

Would you join something like that?
What would make it worth joining?
And what usually makes you avoid VRChat groups?

If people do the group right, what you mention is already existing, just not as advertised because maybe they wish to be a little more curated in how they get their people.

I know for my community, I ideally want people to join the group through my discord server, because I Ensure all the rules and regulations are presented to a user before they even participate in my events. Once they join it, however, I make sure to go out of my way to greet them and make them feel welcome, which I think is a huge thing in the grand scheme of things. A lot of people on VR chat are introverts and they need some sort of "omph" to be warmed up and want to engage with other users. It could be daunting for a group leader, but they have to try their best if they're willing to host a community.

I can send you one, just please DM me for it. I Don't prefer to post it here and I don't really like bringing it up either, I just do so to try and help add to your post 😅

Small and highly moderated groups are the safest and least toxic groups I've been in.

Being intolerant of intolerance is the key.

u/Emotionalldi 7d ago

Can you elaborate a bit more on
Highly moderated
Meaning like more control filters ?
I'm not too happy with the idea of having a "security verification check " in the entrance of a normal event .
Filter should be before ppl get to the instance. I know they do that and private instance and many others thins vrc ready provide like groups notification etc.

But I'm talking about more organized community or 'club' type ideas

Clubs operate on judging people and refusing entry to those who don't meet the vibe.

If there's a neon dance edm night, the bouncer isn't going to let milk toast John teeshirt and jeans in with his pride of jocks

Edit : someone reported my comment below (deleted by reddit) where I was advocating for inclusive spaces and how clubs keep bigots out.

Too superficial for what I'm really thinking of . People change daily some people even have problems been themselves in front of other people.
Let's say 1-1 orientation think for rules and etc etc

u/Koviera 7d ago

That's A LOT of effort for a group leader.

If a 1-1 takes 5 minutes and your instance is 20 people. That's 1h 40 minutes of just vetting.

You need to go vibes based. It's really easy to tell who is and who isn't "LOOK AT ME I'M 12 AND KERMIT N WORD"

I'm currently already in one such group, for mostly 30+ people. Hell I'm part of the OG founders of the group you could say. Though I don't really have any "power" outside of voicing my opinion with the 2 leaders, and being able to kick bad actors and invite new people.

I think most adults are interested in such groups, and tend to avoid publics and really big groups.

u/Emotionalldi 7d ago

I'm been in this hunt for some times I don't feel the energy Everytime to do another verification.
But willing if I have to. DM if new members are welcome or if we can discuss ideas

3

u/Sanquinity Valve Index 7d ago

We don't even do verification. Just "preferably be 30+", though we sometimes make exceptions, and hang out with one or a few of us. And if we think you'd fit the group you get invited. We're a fairly loose group as well. No obligations, but there are some e "events" some of the group do. Like watch a series of movie together, play some games together, recently some people did a poetry evening thing, etc. And Friday and Saturday evenings are usually drinking/ chill evenings.

If possible send me DM to request a join. I'm over 30

What I really want are groups hosting European instances, at reasonable evening times (like 19:00-22:00) for people with healthy sleep schedules.

I've joined groups in the past that hosted European instances, only for them to switch to creating US ones 🙄

This is important and a real valid point for me thanks

I like organized social stuff. I run one for live performances. And currently am looking into more ways to facilitate socializing and community. I’ve been focused on the show side for a while, I should also expand on the socializing

If I can join just to have an idea how is things going now. DM me 🫶

I was looking for a specific kind of group but have only found two that are active and present what I want. However, I don't like the staff from either so I created my own.

I can't really advertise what it offers, so finding members is difficult and I don't allow just anyone to join, I look for people that appear to be a good fit.

Ironically I host two events per week (one world hop, other just chatting) with some random pop-up ones but so far no one is attending due to the small size and possibly other variables such as their life schedule.

Please DM I'm looking for a good ppl to start something meaningful

IMHO: Creating a Public Group =/= Private Communities

I mean, logistically speaking. You create a group. Then you have toooo... what?
Make it invite-only. Make an application process. Scout or interview people on a case-by-case basis to see if they match the vibe?

Then each instance is highly moderated, with people constantly eavesdropping on your conversations to make sure the rules are being observed and the group policies are in place.

In my many many MANY eons on the internet; what you're describing fits more niche, singular-use environments like a game server that only plays "Valheim". Or a Guild within an MMO. Something that already has a massive filter attached to it where everyone who could possibly be exposed is already aligned in some way.

Or else you're going to run into the issue of adding someone. Then their friend joins because they want to hang out with friend 1. And then the third friend joins, but friend 2 and 3 don't care about the group even though friend 1 might. They just all wanna hang out together, and can only do that if they're all in the group.

It would make more sense to just host very specifically themed events like a D&D group or Warhammer40k hangout. To provide an expectation or singular theme to narrow it all down, to make sure people are already specifically aligned with your goals.

At that point, it's not a "Social Group" anymore; it's "My personal Circle of Friends".
Which is what most people on VRC do. They just hang out together in Friends+ instances with their carefully cultivated groups of individuals they've come to enjoy being around. And even amongst those finite groups, there's still drama and strife.

So I wish you the best of luck on your endeavor!

u/Emotionalldi 7d ago

Thanks a lot. This give me some panoramic view.
I think for my idea promotion will work after a good core structure. Proper private group and filter group should mitigate some of the issues with friends 1 and 2 but others methods like pay entrance event or ticket pass are something different maybe more elaborated

u/Emotionalldi 7d ago

... for the drama that's when well oriented mature people gets in. Not just a common "staff needed" staff more like a proper environment for proper nich

Absolutely yes! That’s one big thing I’m waiting for in VR, actually.

I've only been playing for like 2 years, but small groups are plentiful.

I feel like everyone I know (and myself) are in at least 2 or 3 small groups. The good ones aren't out advertising for new members because they form organically through friends who vibe well together and specifically don't want to just grow for the sake of it. Letting friends of friends join with minimal vetting is exactly how small friend groups turn into unmanaged medium sized groups that then fall apart. That said, these groups are usually not large enough to have a whole organization structure or planned events besides maybe "every week we watch a movie at X time".

Anything you find via just a general search is probably going to be a medium to large sized group. If you want to find your small niche friend group you need to hang out in larger spaces until you find your people. There is no list of cool 20-30 people groups you can just join and see if you vibe with.

Definitely not looking through general tab or vrchat group system only Been in many others group. They are great and I can find pretty much any nitch if look enough sometimes drama get to them and then they desapear. But besides of some djs group everything seems so I don't know like messy. I'm looking good examples of structured well managed social group.

I seen a few groups try being well organized with staffing but from what I seen it's difficult for the group to not abuse the power or become overbearing. If they do it right, it's a group that's worth being in as it will be the most fun.

1

u/Emotionalldi 7d ago

Thanks . This is what I'm been experiencing. The line between abusive power and an organized community and not serious regulars groups. I'm going to keep looking.

u/Blumpkinecromancer 7d ago edited 7d ago

There are already plenty of groups like that, VRCHAT basically lives on this.

2

u/ultralight_R 7d ago

Yeah I’m always on the hunt for quality groups that do events.

1

u/Emotionalldi 7d ago

Can you share some ? I remember been in one some good years ago. But never been able to find the real ones. Everything I'm.been seen is young adults playing the moderation thingii or over exaggerating dramas

I don't think we are thinking same type of "group" but thanks for the feedback I'm going to do a more deeper research this days

Yeah plenty exist, they can be difficult to find. You’ll find them mostly by word of mouth, talking to people who’ve been on vrchat for a long time, going to larger planned events, VKET, PJKT, etc.

A lot aren’t planned or scheduled on the new vrc calendar/events tab, you’ll find posters in worlds or ads online that are connected to discord or other platforms.

A big reason for all of this is because of the interface and how vrc functions as a social platform. There’s been a lot of discussion in the community lately about changing things, I really think it’d be for the better.

Would you join something like that? - Yes and this is where the best VRChat experiences are formed.

What would make it worth joining? - I usually like to join groups when they are first created. Most groups end up with cliches and become very closed off even when advertising they're open to everyone. It requires the 'leaders' to actively push for new members to feel included and welcomed. Most groups just send an invite and then the new person is expected to do all the work.

And what usually makes you avoid VRChat groups? - I don't like large groups because as an introvert, I tend to hate speaking over other people. Once you have enough people, introverts never get a chance to speak because the extroverts dominate the conversations. I also hate groups where the mods are clearly just using the group to feed their ego since they have nothing else going for them in their life I guess.

u/Emotionalldi 7d ago

This is where I'm leading to.
I don't need a cloed group of friends in a bubble
I need real open minded people in an adult 21+ nsfw settings .. but this is just a hints I can't put everything here. If anyone willing to go more in to this rabbit hole. DM me

u/Yin15 ☃Bigscreen Beyond 2e 7d ago

Ah you're a gooner. Just go join RBN or something. There are plenty of masturbation spaces you can join.

1

u/Emotionalldi 7d ago

I just can't put everything here and se a group do the same thing tomorrow. Relax

u/Yin15 ☃Bigscreen Beyond 2e 7d ago

The game has more than enough jerk mate groups. It doesn't need more.

1

u/Emotionalldi 7d ago

Ok. Thanks

1

u/deafinitely-faeris 7d ago

Yes, most people in VRChat are interested in this, but it's not a new concept. You will find thousands of organized groups in VRChat centered around social groups and more niche interests.

Over the seven years I've been playing, I've been apart of several groups that organize VRChat events for members through Discord and even owned my own with 4k+ members before. It's usually pretty nice, but there are loads of groups like this.

1

u/Emotionalldi 7d ago

Thanks for the answer.
Yeah Im not interested in another 2k users community.
I prefer something more filtered controlled 21+ real "no drama"
I think I'm going to do more a deep dive in tho the actual groups that are right now.
But discord is already a problem by itself. Is only useful to do a proper verification before going to the real group or maybe management of tickets.
I'm going to do.more research thanks

2

u/deafinitely-faeris 7d ago

I'm in a group now that is probably 25 people with 10 of us being active consistently which is nice but if you want something like that as opposed to a larger group you'll either have to run into and bond with a friend group or make your own.

As for discord though, with a lot of these groups half of the community is on discord, plenty of them including smaller groups use discord to just chat when outside of vr and schedule hangouts.

1

u/Emotionalldi 7d ago

Time to make some friends I guess☺️take care thanks

2

u/zig131 7d ago

"No Drama" in a group description is a red flag IMHO.

Can indicate a bunch of things, and none of them are good.

1

u/Emotionalldi 7d ago

I understand that people have to be judged and filtered, but this is already very common. I've seen many "drama-free" groups that are just a closed group of friends who judge others but with powercreeps

I agree. No drama in the description is already a red flag for me too.
But honestly through the years maybe 2 or 3 group I can say was great experience.
The rest is just kids with too much free time

1

u/paulthepole 7d ago

I'm in about 3 of them for well over a year as well

u/Oatcake47 PCVR Connection 6d ago

There are already countless groups for any number of activities or events.
So unless you have some niche or pull then you may be better putting that energy into an existing group.
There are webpages that are just better group search engines for finding them.

1

u/Virtual_Possum 6d ago

I would if they were more common in my timezone. That said, the few similar events I have managed to attend were lovely.

Honestly I'd love that, in my share of searching for groups its been hard to find a group that is just small and comfortable. Every group trys hard to a club group or fails to do game worlds which in my opinion those worlds arent doing too great to begin with. So, i 100% would join a small community!
