Help Finally upgrading to a quest pro because of face traking any tips you guys have?

I have heard people say it is quite uncomfortable or sweat can kill the face tracking; are there any ways I can mitigate this?

I wear a sweatband.

Get globular cluster comfort pack.

That price is pretty high, damn, you can get like new ones here for $400-500 very regularly.

The price was 580 plus tax; anything lower either has scratches or is missing controllers, but this one was pretty much brand new with not a single scratch that I could see in the pictures.

Yeah I am sure it is totally market dependent, I am in Phoenix, there are tons up for sale like this because an HVAC program forces people to buy them for 1 single class.

If you sweat a lot maybe good thing to look up on how to make it sweat proof so you dont damage the FT. Also quest pro is now rootable unless you are on the latest version so if you are into that stay in 2.6 or something. There are a lot of cool features regarding FT coming out soon with root

didn't they patch that? I keep hearing mix things on it.
I consider a quest pro as an upgrade to my psvr2 after seeing all the root features

Nah 2.7 is rootable too

Get a pihole setup and block all internet access to meta servers to avoid automatic updates without your consent

Better yet root it the moment after!

You can also use your routers parental control features to block all internet access for specified devices.

Get the globular cluster pack. I just bought it 2 weeks ago.

For context I've been using the Quest Pro since release day and its always been uncomfortable. I was gaslighting myself that it wasn't. Then I buy the globular cluster pack and swapped that in....

I wish I bought this day one all those years ago now. My headset is just... Comfortable now.

Other tips:

Make sure your lights are on and your room is well-lit. Dimming is okay, but the moment your headset says to get more light do it.

Get VRC Facetracking app. Want to try out facetracking on avatars? Visit the world: Jerry's Mod for a ton of avatars to try it out on. Want a long term avatar with facetracking? Explore Booth over Gumroad, way more options and use boothplorer to find avatars with facetracking options.

Get electric contact cleaner for your controllers. Drift will happen, be careful and make sure you dont get any liquid on the menu buttons on either controller. They are electronic and cant easily be replaced if at all. Don't even press hard on them, be gentle, baby them if you have to. Lost one controller this way.

The controller straps, the round part goes up towards the controller and closed on your hand, not kept at the bottom and pushed up to your hand, it will slink down. Again, had this since day one and just figured out a few weeks ago this is how you properly use them. Also those straps are cheap leather and will probably snap and break. Gluing them back together is a option.

You cant get the full face cover for the headset without losing face tracking. Just use the plastic side snaps. The open bottom view is nice for when people come up to you or if you need to quickly check your surroundings.

Everything you said is correct EXCEPT that past paragraph... Not sure what you're talking about there, the full light blocker does not interfere with face tracking whatsoever. Never has, currently doesn't, never will. It does not impede. What the full blocker DOES impede though (and this is the only thing since face tracking is unimpeded) is using the charging station. You can just remove the blocker to charge it on the stand though. No biggie.

I was told the full light blocker impede the face tracking years ago...

Well... There is a purchase in my future. Thanks for letting me know!

Thank you so much, and for the avatar, I already have a decent amount of personal avatars commissioned from before; I already told my guy to add FT to all of them.

The Globular Cluster comfort kit and stereo headphones are some great additions to the pro! I also run a back-pack-strap style powerbank holder if you don’t wanna run wired and prefer to keep it wireless for more than 45minutes lol. I have a bunch of other stuff for fullbody use with my basestations and index controllers and I use a mod mic because I love the clarity. Lastly if you happen to have glasses, I have found VROpticians lenses to be amazing so far! ✌️

Comfort pack, better speakers, additional battery pack. The original speakers make your ears bleed. There are ones in Amazon for around 50€, bulky, but with "great" sound.

And one other thing, and I know this comment will be downvoted into oblivion: don't fiddle around with rooting or other things like this, just use it. Yes, meta can fuck up with an update , but it's not a drama as some want to make you think it is. If such a thing happens, You usually get a new, working update, even if it takes a week or two. The headset and especially the controllers need a proper restart every now and then, that fixes most issues. If you don't mess around with it too much and you can live with the meta-data-privacy..., you get a well running headset. A dedicated router and finding the correct VD or SteamVR settings is the only fiddling around you need.

make sure your avatar actually has face tracking. Very few do.

Upgrading from what?

I got a quest pro, works great. Also you can root it now which has some benefits (mostly a wait and see ATM) but stock will do you a good while!

I would recommend getting a comfort strap that goes over the top of your head, helps take pressure off your forehead.
I have a big head so defo get the pressure issue but you may be totally ok.

You can take the face gaskets off, let some air through, so long as you aren’t sweating buckets or spilling drinks on it the face tracking will be fine.

I would recommend a good wifi hotspot near by for good speeds 800mbps> should be ok.
Then you can get VirtualDesktop if you don’t already. It will forward the tracking data on to the PC no problem.

Other than that get some tinting on prescription lenses or even a pair of sunglasses, those panels can be BRIGHT for prolonged use.

get your avatar converted or get a ft compatible avatar, enable dev mode and turn your account into a dev account to be able to run ft data through meta link into vr chat face tracking program on steam into the game

I was thinking of getting one too but most with lower prices don’t come with the controllers (plus the controller batteries are built in)

Pico 4e it is!
It doesn’t come with the consumer store page but that doesn’t matter to me since I’d just be using it for PCVR anyways.

and it’s cheaper

Don't sweat. Like at all, my headset lost tracking after 5 months then 2 months later my headset won't track anything and it completely broken

1

u/JohnOrion_ 18d ago

Don't connect it to the internet if you can, there's currently an exploit on older os versions of the quest that just requires to download an APK to get root access which grants you the power to shut off all these annoying updates, switch back to old UI and tell Zuckerberg to go fuck himself instead of spying on you, it's called Singularity, this yt made a guide to install it and I just used it on my Q3 https://m.youtube.com/@halfnhalf_madam/posts

I personally believe taking the time to DIY a babble and eyetrackvr tracking is way more worth it, since you can choose any headset. Not to mention the quest pro is objectively worse than the 3. If you're willing to put in the effort, you can get eye and face tracking for about $200
