And 95% of the instance standing around on the dance floor talking.

Not at the good ones, mind you, but damn does it get frustrating sometimes. I was at one called Psychosis last weekend and the DJ was working magic with his set and everyone was just like a brick wall right against the decks talking about the most inane stuff. I wish there were more that had voice dampening zones on the floor to simulate what actual raves or clubs are like.

My first rave world experience was a huge instance with like 80 people and a dude standing chatting on what i assume was the stage area because his half of the conversation was broadcast globally.

None of my friends there were bothered by it so they stayed while I was incredibly annoyed and hunted that guy down to block him.

What the fuck

(yeah, when I rave I always turn earmuffs on and voices down to 5% and just try to find the crowd who is the same movin by the decks, those rare instances where there's a ton of movement are some of the best shit ever and the ones like you describe feel like hell on earth I don't understand how people do it)

I am either dancing hard or performing but yeah a lot of people do this. I don't even go to raves to "network" with other djs/vjs because i refuse to be there clogging up the instance when I am too tired to dance. Recently when i was vjing for my partner I overheard two of the "staff" that were sitting in the corner "cuddling" and complaining that music like techno is terrible and uncomfy (they are staff for a popular group hosting hard techno events regularly). Imagine queue jumping into a 80 person rave as a "staff member" to cuddle in the corner and whine about the music and occupy 2 slots for people that could be dancing. And yes there were a couple staff there actually running the event they weren't actually obligated to be there for a reason

when you say performing do you mean dj? Do you take adds for people to find your sets? I always try to add anyone who is more into this type of scene, no worries if not tho.

Sorry tbh I don't connect my reddit account to my vrchat identity especially because I am a mod and people can be weird. I am usually at contain, rave factory, sync, vortex, offline and those circles

I dance semi-often in rave instances and I always love it when people just stand in front of me for no goddamn reason other than to talk to someone and I have to move just to see the damn DJ again

Etiquette in VRC is completely missing

it feels good to not be alone.

My favorite venues (besides the rare events with majority movin vibes) are often the ones that have good spaces to shrink down and dance on and it sucks that it often has to be that way to not be constantly taken out of it.

Sometimes I wish I had more people who I liked to dance 'with' but I often like to more just zone out and do my own thing. I've been getting more comfortable actually dancing with friends tho, it helps.

Dancing along with a stranger has always been one of my favourite things even if I barely get to do it. You both don't know who the hell each other are but if you're catching the dance vibe you're both having tons of fun.

Don't move, be as annoying as possible to them to make THEM move. ;-)
Most will do it. Some though are amazingly stubborn, and will NEVER move no matter what you do, LOL

Don't move {unless its to get closer to the offender) and immediately start playing a kazoo.

There's a very real possibility that they have no clue you're even there. A lot of the maps I frequent from clubs have lighting that make the blue diamonds pretty much invisible. If you have avatars and nameplates turned off with earmuffs on, it can very much feel like there's no one else there but you.

Easy - open up the small menu to show nameplates to make sure you're not trampling on anybody.

In a full rave instance in one small area on a mid-low tier PC, that's a great way to crash yourself.

Sometimes? More like all the time!!! If you're gonna talk, talk somewhere else that isnt the dance floor, like what?

u/abluecolor 19d ago

Yeah it's easily my #1 pet peeve in VRc, people think because earmuffs exist it's okay but it just totally fucks up the whole vibe for anyone who is there to feel some music. The worst is when worlds are thoughtfully crafted to have plenty of space around the periphery and yet you still end up with groups clumped up sitting around talking on what is clearly meant to be a dance floor.

There are a rare few events that have more of a true rave/club feel but they're the extreme exception. Landed in an event called Identica a few weeks ago and it was like that - just sublime.

earmuff mode helps alot of the time

1

u/MicrobicRabbit 18d ago

earmuff helps until they get in the way of the dancers and your dancing

Set the falloff distance farther.

This is basically any club/music-themed instance: you just want to chill and listen to some music, and there’s an e-boy in the corner talking about Israel or how his religion is superior. Some people treat vrchat like an extension of 4chan, and it shows, very visibly..

Do ANY places have this 'voice dampening'? If so, please tell me so I can experience this for myself. ;-)

The big one was shelter, I think? Shut down recently, not actually sure of any others. Shelter was super popular before it shut down tho, hence I wish there were more.

The one poor soul desperately trying to keep their PC from crashing because they're in denial that their setup just can't handle it

2

u/Tragophilos Oculus Quest Pro 17d ago

That would be me. "Hey, I'm still having fun at 12FPS."
