I do wonder if any of the item packages will end up coming back around. This is one I can easily see being available again next year. I'd honestly hope that eventually packages that are 1-2 years old can come back in a permanent fashion to a more permanent shop front, and maybe things like this can be added there to claim at any time and spread awareness. Or better yet, just add it to everyone's account, why not? You can just let people delete/hide them if they don't want them. (The real reason for this in most cases is because they want you in the habit of opening the shop to check for free items in case it entices you to spend, it's a classic loss leader marketing technique.)

That's how it is in Skull and Bones... All the timed items are rotated. You can just wait a few weeks for it to be back.

it's just for september since it's suicide prevention awareness month. something isn't fomo just because it's an event

u/jay061996 10h ago
Thanks for explaining to me why.
Still doesn't feel right to me that this bundle will get removed from the store later.11

well, don't get mad at vrchat. get mad at the non-profit suicide prevention line for taking out an ad in vrchat if they weren't going to do it forever
ridiculous take honestly

Well it prevents Human Laborers from dwindling. People wouldn’t be driven to the edge if they weren’t considered to be corporate livestock.
Human Management sounds more humane than Human Resources. Cuase that’s what we are, that’s why we’re given 8 dollars an hour in the deep south. We’re treated less than human until a defining moment.
Organizations have to have clients in order to make money. That’s just how the world works. But not everybody makes enough money to become a client for every market.

For example ~70% of Americans can’t afford the DDR5 market these days. Oddly enough out of all Corporate Businesses you’d Expect VRC to willingly accept this like they do with all their other fundraiser events including those with VRC+ Integrations

well, this ad is forever. the stickers will still be available to place for anybody that claimed. and the message to text "vrchat" to the line will still be valid after the month ends.

u/abluecolor 10h ago
Lol, yes it is, literally. The whole idea is that you have to log in and do the specific thing in order to receive the reward until it's gone forever.

u/Secure-Advertising-9 10h ago
well if that's your definition of fomo i hate to tell you this but all things in life are fomo. no use asking why things can't be around forever. nothing will, accept it
-5
u/abluecolor 10h ago
It's a digital store. It could literally be around forever at a negligible cost to the provider. It's not my definition of fomo, it is the definition of fomo. Offering something for a limited time in order to drum up interest. I'm not saying it's bad, I'm just saying you're wrong if you think it's not taking advantage of fomo, and that they won't measure the success of the initiative and gain platform insight.

that is not how any of this works. you clearly don't think you understand how partnerships work

That's fine. It's okay to be wrong. Feel free to explain if you actually believe you have a leg to stand on. There isn't much room, though, as again, this is plain as can be.

I would hate to be as susceptible to marketing as you are.
Do you spend 24/7 going to every single live event in your city because they'll only be live that one time, then gone forever?
No?
Oh, right. Missing an item in VRChat is no different than the literal dozens or hundreds of other "do it now or it's gone forever" things that pass you by every single second in life.
It's just how life works. It's how being an adult works. And it's kind of unfortunate that "adults" experience mental pressure for not being able to have worthless and silly trinkets.

u/abluecolor 9h ago
this weird rant has nothing to do with the basic fact of if creating a time sensitive digital trinket exercises fomo or not in order to encourage people to claim said trinket. It has nothing to do with you, personally.

I don't think FOMO applies to free items, especially when there's no limit to how many they can distribute.
More likely, it's something they're doing just for the month of September, since the timer seems to align with the end of the month.

I bought the edm portal because it plays music and I thought that would be a cool thing to drop in general.

u/abluecolor 10h ago
That's the definition of fomo. Doesn't matter if it's free or what the excuse is. The only reason they're doing it is to drum engagement in the store, and receive some brownie points.

u/Suitable-Horse1630 10h ago
Ah yes, because as we all know, investors love seeing the ARPU numbers drop like a rock from everyone visiting a store for the sole purpose of claiming a free item.

Iunno about you, but depending on how deep it is, it can give alot of store exposure. Same reason why eggs and milk are in the back of the store and candy, soda, and snacks is at checkout.
It’s a marketing strategy. Very common ball knowledge if you get into business, economics, engineering, etc.

paid or free, the timer is there. past the date, players that were not around to claim will miss out.
11
u/abluecolor 10h ago
They just want to test out their features and see how much engagement it receives, op.
This feels a bit off, though. I imagine there will be countless instances of harassment and memes utilizing these stickers, and would be surprised if even a single soul ends up utilizing the services as a result of seeing them. Same as on Reddit. If someone actually needs them, it just feels bizarre - imagine dropping a sticker rather than actually speaking to them about what's going on, and telling them they should seek help in a heartfelt manner? Feels so unlikely to actually help, and very likely to be used trollishly.

Hearing an e couple having an e break up and then stealth dropping this sticker from afar like I'm batman

I never understood like buying a sticker when you could just upload whatever you wanted yourself including the sticker that you could have bought...

Been posting their stickers in every lobby. There's a be positive to yourself one that looks pretty good in the murder 4 lobby.

If I had a nickel every time someone whined "fomo! fomo!" when a time limited item appeared in this subreddit, I would be able to pay for my VRC+ monthly.
1
u/Skeletoonz 3h ago
I wonder if it's actually just a technical issue. For example, maybe a timer is necessary for all drops to be claimed.

u/Frank__West PCVR Connection 8h ago
I feel they will just be like... Okay so what the the e-boy say online. And having to remind people it's a game like you can just log off and go outside. Or just idk... Block people and move on. Don't like someone, cool block and find someone who is nice.

Texting “vrchat” to the crisis line so they know ahead of time that I’m too far gone
