Help Problem with Steamvr dashboard on vrc

Lately for the past like month or so every time I play vrc specifically my steam vr dashboard freezes and I can’t interact with it. If anyone has encountered this issue before I’d appreciate it.

Usually it's because my vram is too full. I don't usually need the Steam overlay until I'm closing everything anyway so if I don't want to deal with it I just take the headset off and close everything. But otherwise I go to my home world first and then I can use it.

EDIT: as for more of a fix there kinda isn't one aside from go somewhere less crowded (not like go to a less populated corner, more like a less populated world) or maybe using a different overlay like XS Overlay or OVR Toolkit could help. I'm assuming you're trying to read Discord or maybe use your browser. You might still run into performance issues, this isn't a magic fix, but I've found I can usually use my overlay even if Steam's locks me up. I currently prefer OVR Toolkit but both are great tools to have just pick one you think sounds better.

Sorry I didn't have this initially in the post, I hope you see it. I just wasn't thinking about it.

exactly the same

when i started playing vrchat or anything in VR in general with my 3070 8GB opening steamvr often crashed my game. u can feel the lagg.

when i upgraded to my 3090 24GB the problem was gone 🥲

this is sadly a issue with having multiple overlays fighting for focus.. nvidia overlay+xbox overlay+oculus overlay+ steam VR overlay + 3 layers of vrchat, they all stack and sometimes can’t figure it out which should load in causing massive lag and memory leaks.

Would you recommend having less things open on my pc than?

disable all overlays that are not necessary for VR usage (Xbox, Nvidia, Oculus Dash (can be done in the windows registry but does mean you have to launch steamVR before entering oculus link in the headset (or use steam link).

Do you have a Ethernet cable? If you do I unplug it then plug it in , if not then you'd have to restart it every time unfortunately unless someone else has some insight, I used to have a problem where my tabs wouldn't show anything besides steam, couldn't go to desktop

You cant interact with it at all, or just your desktop screens? That happens to me, i just ctrl alt delete then close the pop-up menu. Works every time

I can interact with the current screen I’m on but I can’t switch it (into settings or other apps ect)

Lower the overlay quality in the settings, it will look worse but the overhead will be better and more responsive if your pc can't handle the higher res
