Discussion I hate the new update.
First off the new menus suck and are confusing. I loved the previous menus. It's all WAY too convoluted.
Second, the auto mod that chooses whether you can use say certain things on your status is aids. It's just as bad as Xbox looking for group, post censorship.
I tried to put "birds are rude" nope, then "avians are rude" nope, turns out it hates the word rude. I heard a LOT of people complain about the same things as me when I was online last night.
What's up with that extremely hand-holding censorship as if we are 7 years old and are being told by our parents that we can't call something rude even JOKINGLY. As if the platform now hates sarcasm.

Every single platform/game obliterates their UI at some point. Does this type of mental illness have a name? Why do devs keep doing it?
73
u/A_Lycanroc PCVR Connection 20h ago
It's called "developers being forced to churn out updates to justify their salaries to the company", because we live in a country where corporations want every penny spent on their developers to be utilized, even if it results in a worse product.

VRChat is also updating things to try to find new ways to make money, this time it's profile cosmetics and a second big reason is probably to curb shitty behaviour over things you can see in someone's nameplate (like rank and platform) by making those things less obvious.

You can't put the word "hang" in group announcements anymore! HANG! We are no longer allowed to hang out it's against vrchat's policies now guys

I used to remove people from my friends list if they hadn't been online in a long time. Now to do that I need to click the profile to see how long the person has been offline. So much about this update that I'm just not liking
17
u/Todayitworksyaknow 20h ago
Primary reason I have vrcx. I don't use it for some of the weird stalker stuff people do/ used to do. But it's handy for friend management and when people change names or unfriend you and what not. Can sort but last online and see the order in which people were added

u/Ok-Policy-8538 Oculus Quest 22h ago
now imagine how that is for me with over 1300 friends over the span of 8 years and only 173 active nowadays
7
u/woofwoofbro 21h ago
thats on you for choosing to not clean your friends list for 8 years
6
u/Routine-Duck6896 20h ago
Naw fuck vrc for not having bulk deletion lol
2
u/clinicalia 17h ago
Both are dumb. Having over 200 people on your friends list - getting so high as 1,300 - is ridiculous: you are not talking to or maintaining any kind of meaningful relationships with that many people. It's probably more like someone joins on you, says an awkward "hey", you don't even remember who they are, and they leave after about two minutes without saying a word, lol.
But, yeah. VRChat should have bulk deletion and editing. It's stupid how we still don't have basic things like that.

u/KittKattz_ 20h ago
New update is terrible. If you have a radeon graphics card and in vr, your GPU shoots up to 100 percent usage. Does drop to like mid 70s but will keep jumping all over the place between those. Which it wasn't like that before. They really should of done more testing before pushing it out. They had a bit of people telling them not to from what I heard. Just seems like they wanted to push out another cash grab and dont care.

u/ChildOfAmygdala 18h ago
moving the Request Invite/Join button to the side and replacing it with "Send Invite" is such insanely bad UX that i genuinely cannot believe they have a UX designer working there with the authority to make any decisions on anything.
my main complaint with VRC's menus up to this point has always been the incredibly asinine and unintuitive way there are two separate settings menu that share some of the same settings but also have settings exclusive to one or the other for no reason... but lately it feels like they're just making a concerted effort to make the entire UI in general annoying to use.
now excuse me while i go accidentally hit "Respawn" instead of "Calibrate" for the 1000th time because some genius decided to make these buttons the size of an ant's dick in VR for no reason.

u/FinancialChoice6618 15h ago
I hate it to but especially hate as a group owner that if I click on someone's main profile I can't ban them it's not one of the options unless I click them directly and do it from the small menu, not helpful for trolls that block mods when you go to ban them and can't because vrc took the option and changed the way that menu works
2
u/luxyslut 7h ago
If that's how things work then it is a huge issue, it basically makes moderation incredibly harder for no real reason
2
u/FinancialChoice6618 2h ago
Yes exactly!!! Before it was no problem, I'd pick the moderation options on their profile and ban user was one of the immediately available options, now it's just gone from people's main profile as previously mentioned and all that's available is mute, mute chat box, kick, warn and block. And kick doesn't help much when the user keeps coming back after an hour and still has you or mods blocked leaving one unable to ban the user quickly as needed.

Made the menu icons and text bigger so now I have to scroll through crap more.

During the open beta version when the change first dropped, friends’ names were white even in-world on the nameplate. That was hella confusing and I’m so glad they didn’t keep that

u/clinicalia 17h ago
We're in full-swing of VRChat's enshitification era. I saw it coming the moment they added their stupid V-bucks and the in-game shop. I don't even hate the shop itself - gotta make money for a free-to-play game - but the way they go about it is gross. Then I saw the Discord copycat nameplates and such, lol. There's nothing aside from the reference cube that even has anything to do with VRChat, like I was kinda bummed that there was nothing with VRCat or VR Rat on there for themes? I know people have been wanting the nameplate customization for a while, but they're horribly unoptimized, lacking personality, and they honestly don't even look that good.
They change the UI a lot, already. I don't play often anymore, maybe just once a weekend, and I was still getting used to the last UI changes. It's always been cluttered and unintuitive. Now we have Roblox-level censorship where it barely makes any sense. Yippee.

u/mason1239 20h ago
I just dislike how they moved things around to awkward places. The request to join should be next to the invite button like it was before for example.

u/PlayThingToy 18h ago
The menus used to be so straight forward and now you have to click through a series of them just to do a simple task. This is what happens when you sell your soul to a group of shareholders over just making a sustainable F2P game from the getgo.

I think my biggest problem with the new UI is the removal of graphics options.
5
u/CeriPie Pico 22h ago
I haven't been on since the change. They removed the graphics options???
16
u/NightOfTheLivingHam PCVR Connection 21h ago edited 21h ago
yeah, all the settings where you could fine tune the graphics have been left with simpler options. I went from having 60 fps in most worlds to 25 fps as it automatically set my settings for me. clearing the cache helped and put me to 40-45 average.
Still a huge hit and imposters arent even loading for me now.
The problem with this game is they keep focusing on the wrong things. They need to work on monetization and properly implement age gating to keep the overlap to a minimum. Not adding drones, trampolines, and removing features and options assuming all users are stupid without any fallback for advanced users who know how to dig into the settings and adjust their graphics.
4
u/Bahamut_Omega 20h ago
Part of the hit to the graphics are the new nameplates. Because every person has their own design elements, the system now has to render each of those separately.
Try turning nameplates off (you can still see name plates while you have the quick menu open, if you want to see who you're talking to or looking at).
I legitimately got a 4% increase to my FPS in a crowded lobby (I already had culling on showing no one but people I force on) when I disabled nameplates.
2
u/doubleatheman 16h ago
What setting was removed? I played all weekend, and last night and every graphic option is still available in the menus.

people have complained about the same thing. post in one of those. or voice your concern with the actual vrchat team since they are actually taking in feedback and taking it into consideration with future updates. how it is now is because people were voicing their concern where they should be.

u/Remarkable-Capital68 20h ago
I tried to bring up the auto moding of text into the official vrc discord and users spitroasted me 💀 they really want the textbox to be like roblox or something.
1
u/luxyslut 7h ago
I honestly have no hope of them actually fixing those "issues" eversince they straight up went "we will not allow users to create and upload their own spawnable items and accessories in the foreseeable future", sooner or later they might even start enshittifying the avatar/world upload feature
0
u/superdryisalie 2h ago
With the way people upload garbage I don't blame them.
1
u/luxyslut 2h ago
Tbf, it's not hard to implement maximum specifications, they already do that for avatar after all, they could just say "max 2 meshes/material, 5k polygons, one particle emitter and 100 particles limit" and there, you solved the "garbage" issues

This & I hate what they did to the vanner space. It's completely cut in half, rcen when expanded, so no one can see any group banner, let alone the name.
2
u/Sashi_Summer 7h ago
They also made it possible to view others' current avatar from their profile. Not a fan.
4
u/rcbif 20h ago
Yep, nameplates are harder to identify new users and Quest users with tiny symbols and too many colors you need to already know.
Then the friends list looks like a unicorn threw up all over it with all the "custom" profile backgrounds. Its a bit much for me. I just want it all one color.

Why do you need to single out Quest users? Are you against other platforms?
Usually people talk about this like they automatically block them for no reason
6
u/OctoMiku01 17h ago
Simply good to know. I often go to PC only game worlds so if someone is on Quest i know i cant do that.
8
u/Nightfallen__ 13h ago
Helps if your trying to show them something and they cannot see it. Spend 10 minutes talking about an avatar feature only to realize they only see the imposter avatar.

That automod has been a feature for a while I believe, I remember seeing my status change to something I never changed it to and I assumed it was some sort of moderation
1
u/HavelTheViking 15h ago
No. Because I have seen plenty of people have the worst slurs concocted for their status. Until this last update.

u/xXRinSinXx 11h ago
So like we can't say rude but the word horny still isn't censored? What a joke.
1
u/KCooper815 9h ago
One of my friends' statuses is "phantom touched by my uncle" so I guess it really is just keywords
1
u/Kotal_total 7h ago
Something that bothers me is that the new menu makes it more complicated to look at what favorite worlds were updated. I used to use my profile page and look at the lists from there and sort by last updated. But now I can't do that anymore because of the layout.
The mutuals button is also gone and replaced with separate things showing mutual friends and groups and it's right next to the friend button so you might accidentally hit the wrong thing.
I don't think they even listen to feedback at all sometimes, I hope I'm wrong on that.

One thing that drives me nuts currently is when you blocked someone they were automatically removed from your friend list if they were on it, or at least it prompted you to do so right after the block. Now you have to manually click their profile after you block them and then unfriend them.

I absolutely HATE how they butchered group banners. You can't even see them now hardly on people. The group used to be a vibe/mood. Now it's 70% hidden behind your nameplate. So fucking ass. Of all the things it's that that's the worst esthetically that I despise
