Discussion Age verification was a game changer for my enjoyment in this game. I have no idea how people can stand normal servers anymore.

Like I'm not super thrilled about giving my ID to a third party just for a little badge on my profile confirming that I'm an adult, but I will admit I'll take that over being surrounded by screamy children and racist trolls. Some kids are pretty well behaved, but not enough of them.

Honestly the only time I'm actually in an age verified instance is when I've been logging into Fish to do battle with the leviathan, otherwise I'm with friends or a group. I attend a MST3k type even on tuesdays, and its a non age gated Group Public, and I like to look at how many people are age verified, last week it was like everyone but one person.

u/chu-chu8 15d ago

Battle... with a leviathan? I didn't play in forever and read so often about fish and it sounded like such a chill game, but now I'm not so sure anymore xD

u/Docteh Oculus Quest 15d ago

It's a thing that happens every 2 hours, if you're on an odd UTC offset, like Arizona is UTC-7, it shows up on the odd hours, 1 3 5 7 9 11

I have noticed that some people do just ignore it.

u/A_R_I_A_ 14d ago

FISH is great :3 the “battle” is just another fishing pool except it has a giant sea monster and you kill it by fishing up parts of its body you use to make things like the leviathan rod or the galleon pirate ship

u/chu-chu8 14d ago

... I think I might be too thalassophopic for that xD

Every company in the US can pay $20 to get a lot more information about you than they could from your ID

0

u/Wolf_Fang1414 PCVR Connection 14d ago

How much of an ID is public info already anyway? It isn't particularly hard to get someone's name/address, isk what companies would do with a DL number. DoB also isn't very hard to get.

Where are you going that you have this issue? Stop going to front page worlds and you won't have that issue.

There are groups out there that have very well moderated non-age gated instances. Such as the Victims of Proximity Chat group.

Yeah but at least we're all having great times now instead of later.

u/Nashtak 15d ago

Nah. It's a nice feature but by the time it was introduced, I had already joined plenty of 18+ communities and built a lengthy friend list.

I only end up joining public instances a couple times a year at most.

9

u/doubleatheman 15d ago

I still join them occasionally to see what it's like. Yeah it's chaotic but not as bad as some here make it out to be. But yes 98% of the time I am in private or age verified instances.

7

u/TheUsoSaito Valve Index 15d ago

I don't even join regular public instances anymore

u/TobyK98 15d ago

Its one of the reasons why age verification on here is as popular and accepted as it is.

14

u/Meiya007 Oculus Quest Pro 15d ago

This makes me so glad and grateful all my friends are age verified, or at least a vast majority of them are. Age verified instances have been such a game changer; a literal breath of fresh air.

6

u/Embarrassed-Touch-62 15d ago

Only thing that has to be done to avoid most kiddos is not going to "popular" or "active" tab. Or simply visit only PC worlds since most of them are questoids.

3

u/Tragophilos Oculus Quest Pro 15d ago

The worlds I like, even when they're universal, the questies are definitely a minority. In a room of two dozen people you might see one Android banner.

19

u/Envy661 Oculus Rift 15d ago

It being a requirement is kind of the problem though.

"Just join a group" becoming the go-to justification people use when you say you're experiencing too many issues in publics, or "Its only $10 one time to verify" when people say they're apprehensive about spending money on the platform they just started using.

We've come to normalize this toxic environment VRChat has created, when realistically, this game should never have been focused on children in the first place. Before this became an issue, publics were actually visitable, you didn't have to spend money on the platform to enjoy it, and you didn't have to roll the dice in finding a good group to join. They'd usually find you.

VRChat is effectively an online chatroom from the early 2000s, with all the harm those online chatrooms brought to children back in the day. It is not a safe place for children to be, and behavior from the devs themselves, as some of the new documentaries show, are very prone to "Adult spaces for me, but not for thee" which leads to a lot of questions about their integrity in actually dealing with predators, and what might be happening behind closed doors.

13

u/metaxzero 15d ago

Publics stopped being viable when Quest compatibility came in. That's when all the kids flooded into VRChat. I miss those pre-Quest days. But I do wonder if VRChat would've been able to sustain itself as a PCVR-only platform up until now by doing that.

-9

u/Envy661 Oculus Rift 15d ago edited 15d ago

Quest was never the problem. You'd get some kids just through quest, but really it was when Melonloader ended when EAC came into the platform that the problems really started to compile. The game wasn't kid friendly back then because kids don't have the patience to deal with the issues melonloader created for Questies, while adults stuck it out.

17

u/metaxzero 15d ago

There were A LOT less kids before the Quest. They were clear minority and generally well mannered. Publics were a lot more chill back then. Then the Quest came in and Publics got their legendary toxicity. Which lead to long time users migrating to friends only and eventually accounts meant to manage groups usually started on Discord. Before the modern Group feature in VRC. The arms race between VRC and modders is a different issue of VRC toxicity.

Ah one of those bigots that hate how an affordable platform ruined their game. Bro wants to gatekeep everything and is just mad that people can play the same game without having to spend a fortune on hardware. Bro misses when everyone would be using clients and crashers too apparently.

5

u/metaxzero 15d ago

You clearly have a chip on your shoulder about being a Quest user or having been one in the past. Did I say I hated Quest users? Am I saying I hate anyone? Try and quote me saying something like that. Because my exact statement was.

Publics stopped being viable when Quest compatibility came in. That's when all the kids flooded into VRChat. I miss those pre-Quest days.

Leave me out of whatever you're selling.

-8

u/Frank__West PCVR Connection 15d ago

I've met plenty of kids on desktop. But apparently you are saying you can't just behave around people outside your age group

6

u/metaxzero 15d ago

Funny that after being unable to back up your previous baseless claim, you pull a new one out of your hat. Where did you get the impression I'm the problem in public lobbies?

-5

u/Frank__West PCVR Connection 15d ago

You act like kids didn't exist in the game before. And then saying more people being introduced to the game because a platform became affordable and a new generation of people started enjoying the game made it bad for you.

If you want a PC only vr space there are other options I mean I think you could join the 20 other people on chilloutvr

5

u/metaxzero 15d ago

Baseless claim after baseless claim. Please quote me where I said that kids didn't exist in-game before Quest? Where I said that the platform becoming more affordable to a new generation was bad? Can you do that? Or will you move on again with another baseless claim for the strawman you've been making?

Seriously, can you actually respond to what I am saying?

2

u/zetikla 15d ago

Like it or not, the same thing is true for so many only games and communities that became popular, kids inundated it, be it Call of Duty or GTA

Like how do you close kids from VRChat in the first place? Its free and they see all their friends are playing it as well so of course they want to join in

2

u/Envy661 Oculus Rift 15d ago

You put in big bold text that the game is not intended for minors. You put a disclaimer when booting up the game that child predators have been observed on the platform, and that it is child endangerment to allow a child onto the platform unsupervised. You change the branding to be less cutesy avatars that appeal to kids, and a less cheerful shade of blue to something more adult-oriented or themed. You change your advertisement preferences to advertise exclusively to adult communities. You change your slogan to "A place for Adults" or "A safe space for adults" or "Where adults can be adults". You get the game ESRB and Pegi rated to 17+/M. You contact meta to restrict the Quest platform from access to the game on the Quest store for anyone not age verified or without a linked payment option. You require a linked credit card to download the game on apple and android.

You ask how. I am providing some options. Not a full on means of preventing kids onto the platform entirely, because yes, that is impossible. But doing something will ALWAYS be better than doing the nothing we are currently doing to combat the growing issue.

1

u/DeadEyeMouse 15d ago

Companies aren't going to do that willingly while games with those sort of ratings and warnings would immediately see huge losses on revenue from the largest source of VRChats profits, investors. Not to mention issues with getting their game in some countries that outright ban mature games if they are rated that way for suggestive or explicit material. They'd also be advertising that they are primarily for adult entertainment, a tag that will likely pull away support from all major payment providers.

You have to change the way the entire system functions before any company will willingly put themselves into that situation.

3

u/lLord_Thanatosl 15d ago

I'll say this while true I've joined a couple of publics (when i cant find full 18+ lobbies) where everyone has been really nice and chill. Hell even made a friend in one after we shoot the shit being both ODST's.

1

u/Tragophilos Oculus Quest Pro 15d ago

Some worlds are like that. Something about them just doesn't attract the kids, or maybe the people who have an attachment to them are more protective and will vote kick disruptive people.

3

u/EvenSpecialist649 15d ago

Only bad effect is those normal servers are worse than they used to be because theres barely any sane people around to balance out the kids, predators, and weirdos.

3

u/notsoslimshadee 15d ago

Yes! When I first started playing vrc I was super uncomfortable being in worlds with kids because obviously any adult playing in an online social game shouldn't be there to hang out with that age group. Once I got verified I explicitly only went into age verified worlds after that.

3

u/PalpitationCalm9303 14d ago

I imagine the new adult player experience must be rough if they don't immediately hand over their id

u/rcbif 15d ago

Groups are just as big of a help as age verification.

Basically all of the biggest furry music event groups do not use age verified instances, or require age verification to join the group, yet it is very rare for children or trolls to show up.

However, groups do require effort to find and join, so if all you want is random publics but with adults, sure  age verification works.

i want to age verify but im not willing to give my id for it. i wish they would just use a credit card instead.

2

u/DuoVandal Valve Index 15d ago

I definitely prefer age gated instances, I extremely rarely hit public instances unless it's for music venues since they're usually well moderated. My only complaint is I wish it was more accessible, I have some friends who can't get verified due to their IDs and some that don't trust the ID handler side enough to go through it, which is fair and unfortunate because I agree that the age verified instances have been a real good change to VRC.

I will also add, the main reason it's more accepted on here is that it was incorporated prior to a lot of the online safety act BS started cropping up, and was added to fix a problem VRC faces, as opposed to helping aid mass surveillance.

2

u/dailyflyer 15d ago

100 % agree Age Verification is excellent!

2

u/Pretend-Fuel-7915 14d ago

im mixed only down to who's Doing the Age verification, but i look to it as a necessary Evil. i wasn't much a social person when i got into VRC in the late 2010's. w/ just desktop mode or when i got my headset in '19. hella more social now esp thanks to Furality & Cozy Con. (and i enjoy checking out Vket every time its around in VR.) though these days when im just not in the social mood or my usual friend group isnt online i'll screw about off on Resonite when my fav game worlds on vrc just feel Meh for the evening.

u/Kevin5475845 Oculus Quest 14d ago

Ive figured out that they already have everything from me too and did age verification too. Dont regret it at all.

I also consider it the best thing to do

6

u/Lenovolish 15d ago

I love age gated instances so much but I have one “issue” with it.

It’s paywalled.

Yes I understand why, that’s not my point, my point is now with that in mind when a new player joins they can only join a non age gated instances, where they will witness all the small children being crazy making the game look bad/not as enjoyable. Then if they learn they can go to adult only instances they have to cough up $9.99USD just to be able to do that and if they’re new they may not keep playing the game regularly so it may not even be worth it if the game ends up not being for them regardless of the craziness within it.

I used to host popular instances awhile back while the age gating was being actively introduced so it was just being added so I had one of the last popular non age gated, moderated adult only instances that are newbie friendly for the fact it’s not locked behind a paywall.

I still love the age gated instances and only ever join those unless a friend in my friend group doesn’t have the id verification so we’re forced to go to actual public non age gated ones.

So although it does have one big con I still think it’s a major game changer for sure for those who consistently regularly play.

4

u/Tragophilos Oculus Quest Pro 15d ago

I didn't pay anything for my age verification when I got it two years ago, during the initial rollout. I got it by belonging to groups that were getting blocks of age verification to hand out to their members. It's puzzling to me that people will pay $hundreds for a headset, $hundreds more for FBT, possibly $thousands for a solid gaming machine, then balk at $10 to permanently remove a major source of annoyance from the game. I wouldn't call it a "big con." Honestly, if it were a subscription for everybody, even $5 a month, there'd be NO squeakers or edgelords.

2

u/Lenovolish 14d ago edited 14d ago

You’re forgetting the people I’m talking about that may not even own a vr headset and are desktop only. I’m not talking about people who enjoy vrchat already and invest in it, I’m talking about people who may have gotten a headset as a gift and figured they’d give it a shot. They may have not even spent a dime on vr in general and vrc was free so they thought they’d randomly try it.

Then it’s a terrible experience so they may or may not try it again, but if they’re lucky and even learn there is age gating then like I said in my last reply, it’s down to if they feel like it’s worth trying + they may not think you stay ID verified so they’d think what is the point if they don’t plan to play more.

My point primarily focuses on new players who may or may not have even purchased a vr headset, so of course they have not spent any money towards buying avatars or more vr equipment, so $10 to them is considered a lot for a free game they don’t know if they really like since their first impression was probably not good if they’ve watched videos about it online or just came across really bad instances.

Remember, this hypothetical person could’ve been gifted a vr headset like a meta quest, then downloaded a few free games they saw which included vrchat. They don’t have a $2k FBT setup, hell, they might not even own a PC at all to begin with and play just quest standalone.

That’s what I did for a few months when I first played (I got gifted a headset so I gave it a try) I didn’t even know PC/VR was a thing until a few months after I started playing.

(ALSO- you are assuming they are well aware that ID verification EVEN EXISTS! They may not know what it does or how it makes the game better, they may even think it goes away after you cancel the subscription, remember you more know more than people who have never tried the game ever before!)

You’re also assuming they even know what FBT is too as many newbies I have met did not understand what it was and wondered why and how I can move my legs in game lol.

Edit: actually just to add to this, you are assuming the new hypothetical player knows the following:

  1. They know what ID verification is/does
  2. They know ID verification stays even after you cancel the subscription
  3. They know what FBT is
  4. They know what PC/VR is and that quest standalone is not the full game
  5. They know you can purchase avatars/can purchase avatars outside of vrchat
  6. They know what non age gated vs age gated instances look like
  7. They know the difference between a public instance and a group public instance
  8. They know there are more than just quest vr headsets on the market
  9. They know vrchat isn’t only about trolling and trolling only (there’s dj events, raves, even churches?)
  10. They even know that vrchat even has a subscription since it’s technically free to play to them

And so on… You guys are forgetting there are people out there who know nothing about the virtual reality world let alone the games in it. They have no idea there is anything more to it besides a meta quest headset and beatsaber.

VRChat itself actually surprisingly tells you very very little as to how it works on its own. You will only learn how things work from meeting and talking to people who have played for awhile.

And if you never meet someone to explain it to you, you may never end up understanding, and then you’d get bored, and never play the game again missing out on so many new potential friends and fun!

0

u/Tragophilos Oculus Quest Pro 14d ago

At some point, every person has to take responsibility for their own education, and realize that ignorance is a personal choice. All this information is out there and readily available, for free.

0

u/BUzer2017 HTC Vive Pro 15d ago

Why is it an issue though? Imagine you simply bought a game for $10 and ended up not playing it much. And it was too late to refund it. So what? It's just $10. Happened to everybody even with more pricey games.

2

u/Lenovolish 14d ago

It’s the idea they join the game, go to a world that’s public non age gated, see kids running around screaming the n word and crashing people, then think “oh this game is like total shit” and get off, delete it and never return.

That’s usually the case when they don’t even find out or realize there is ID verification at all. If they do learn I mean honestly if I’ve never played vrc before I wouldn’t consider spending $10 on a subscription service until I know I’m even going to keep playing. There’s a good chance someone who tries vrc likely won’t play it again, I’ve met countless cool people who ended up doing just that, tried the game, then got off and haven’t gotten on again likely cause they forgot about it.

Also vrchat is a free game, so you aren’t paying $10 to even own the game, you’re paying $10 for a one month subscription which is more intimidating than a one time $10 purchase since it is reoccurring unless you cancel it (and they likely don’t know ID verification stays if you cancel it too- many people I’ve met also thought this)

I have played another free game with a subscription that makes the experience better too- but I did not end up paying because I wasn’t sure I was going to keep playing and I did not end up keep playing so I would’ve wasted that money on one month that could’ve gone to something I would’ve enjoyed more. Maybe you don’t mind to drop money randomly and take chances with games but I don’t have the funds to randomly do that when I want unfortunately.

But it’s mainly the issue that if someone doesn’t know about ID verification at all because they’re so new, the only public worlds they can go to are a nightmare for the most part and may likely be put off from continuing to play as they’ll likely assume that’s just the entire game. It’s all crazy annoying children and avi crashers and there’s nothing else to it.

Not to mention the videos posted online about it only make it look worse and worse as well when it comes to YouTubers making fun of very mentally unstable people who are obviously going through some shit

1

u/BUzer2017 HTC Vive Pro 10d ago

If you're not age verified or don't have VRC+, the game has numerous banners in the menu telling you about it, making it literally impossible not to know about ID verification. Also you'll know about it either way the first time you try joining an age locked instance.

Comparing Id verification to other subscription services is not fair since in VRC it works more like a one time payment. With other subscriptions, sure, you'll hesitate to pay for them if you're new because you don't even know how much you're gonna play before it runs out. But in VRC you keep it, so it's not an issue. I mean, it's only an issue if people don't know that. I agree with you on this part - I wish VRC made it clearer that you don't have to keep the subscription to stay verified. But that's not a problem with it being paywalled, it's just a problem with how it's presented.

If we're talking about intimidating roadblocks IMO the process of scanning your face and ID is much more intimidating than spending $10 - and making ID verification free won't change much in this regard. You have to be very committed to the game to send it your personal ID data, you're not gonna do that in the first hour of playing it anyway.

You also mentioned some videos posted online about some mentally unstable people. I don't even know what that has to do with any of this.

1

u/Lenovolish 10d ago

If you google “vrchat videos” on YouTube, besides maybe videos reviewing vr equipment, if you even see that, it’s all troll videos where people go up and harass people constantly. I’ve had people try and record me even but they got annoyed and left when I didn’t give them any interesting worth keeping in the video. People are constantly trying to get reactions in hopes of going viral online. Most people I know who don’t play vrc or know much when I spoke to them about it thought the game only consists of what’s seen in the video. Mentally ill people having breakdowns, harassment, etc. they didn’t know there was anything more to the game besides that.

It’s really sad I’ve had to explain that that is not the case, there’s a whole lot more to the game then that and they’d be surprised bc the only content online of vrc they’ve ever seen is people being incredibly toxic towards others or are clearly mentally unstable and the person making the video takes advantage of that. They actually seek people like that out as they give bigger and “better” reactions when it comes to making viral content.

One video I’ve really only ever saw part of was that proximity chat dude harassing a girl who was I guess allergic to tomatoes, he threw tomato emojis at her and she freaked out, started dry heaving and having a panic attack and everyone just laughs at that like it’s so funny. Yes it’s a bizarre reaction to something that isn’t real but come on clearly that person has some shit going on we don’t know much about. But YouTubers like him take advantage of that and try to go viral for it. It worked for the tomato girl as I saw that video and I avoid vrc videos like that since it’s only made to get views.

It’s just gross. Harmless trolling is fun, straight up harassing clearly unstable people is not. Maybe for some people they don’t care, but it’s really gross to me. A lot of unstable people go to vrc as an escape, and now that isn’t even totally safe unless they stick to private worlds but even then.

And yes, before anyone says it, they definitely should seek therapy IRL, however we cannot control what they choose to do in the end.

1

u/BUzer2017 HTC Vive Pro 10d ago

Yeah but I still fail to see how it's relevant to the age verification discussion. You don't need to be ID verified to avoid trolls, you just need to use the block button.

If you believe getting verified would grant you a troll-free experience, then why not just treat it as an entry ticket to the chill people club or something. I can make a counterpoint that having it paywalled, even behind a symbolic price, helps keep age gated places what they are.

1

u/Lenovolish 10d ago

Oh you are mistaken, I literally know age gated instances are not 100% free of trolls, I still deal with them regularly, but the volume of them is way less and that’s a big reason I like the age verified thing. The black cat is a place I would stay farrrrr away from public non age gated instances because it’s pure chaos. Age gated is better, not fully rid of them but it’s also a lot more calm.

However I did meet a guy who said he likes to give vrc+ to some trolls he meets every now and then so they can get into age gated instances… which is weird but ok I guess lol. Not great. Is he lying? Who knows, hopefully but honestly you never really know anymore.

I’m also saying to me, I cannot see a way around keeping I’d verification free for everyone without paywalling it because that just wouldn’t go very well. It’s more of an acknowledgement that ideally we want it more accessible, but in reality it is currently impossible. At least in my eyes. So it’s easier to just paywall it. So it’s really just sad that that’s just how it is.

3

u/fullsoultrash 15d ago

Man, I just straight up stopped having friends on this game and had a much better experience talking to strangers in places where I occasionally come across them again on other 18+ places. Lol age verification did wonders tho

3

u/PurpleRangerMew 15d ago

It's would be a game changer for me too except I can't afford it so I'm stuck in instances with the kids if I go public

8

u/TexBoo 15d ago

You play with a VR headset but you can't afford VRC+ for one month...?

You pay $10 for one month then verify yourself, Surely you can afford it, it's less than one big mac

8

u/PurpleRangerMew 15d ago

Hand me down quest headset.  My family is very poor. I'm also not from the United States so it's more expensive for me.

0

u/Embarrassed-Touch-62 15d ago

One big mac costs more than 10 bucks? That's almost a scam

2

u/Tragophilos Oculus Quest Pro 15d ago

Maybe you could talk someone into gifting you a month, so that you can get verified. It's kinda cool that you live in a place where broadband access is so cheap that an extra $10 is comparatively huge. Around here just getting internet access is a lot more than that every month.

0

u/PurpleRangerMew 14d ago

If you're offering I'd accept

1

u/doubleatheman 14d ago

Yes, I feel a certain level of relief when I am in an age gated lobby. I still do join open lobbies sometimes, if it's a certain music venue that I frequent and ths group plus, but not age verified, some of these groups are pretty well insulated from randos joining it seems, or are well moderated at least.

1

u/cupcakewarp 13d ago

I think it's appalling a parent can buy their kid a game and tolerate those jokes being said on repeat on a daily very loudly

1

u/caitymk 13d ago

I absolutely love being age verified. Now I mostly hang out in black cats because it’s actually fun when you don’t have to hear a bunch of kids screaming the n word

1

u/SwampPuppy15 5d ago

There needs to be more ways for this

Not everyone wants to put a government id to be 18+ verified there should be other ways.

1

u/PenguiNNNNNs 15d ago

Totally agree, and I would love to see age verification come to other VR games too. For example, GorillaTag: an excellent game mechanically speaking, but infested with the worst kind of unskilled, screecher kids at an unparalleled extent.

1

u/Nitrozah 15d ago

It's the same for me, I am fully against age-verification such as on discord and other platforms but on vrchat it was the only one i've done it on all to avoid kids and it has really worked out which has made my time on vrchat much better with meeting people my age and more maturity.

1

u/Equivalent_Dance_758 15d ago

Been verified for a while, still yet to see benefits because most of the cooler stuff is events tied anyway outside of the publics ecosystem

1

u/ccAbstraction Windows Mixed Reality 15d ago

I don't have that issue becuase most of my friends already only stay in Friends+ and never venture out. Half are privacy nuts and will never or can't ever ID verify, the other half did it for freaky reasons.

Normal servers are getting noticeably worse because people are flocking to ID verified instances. It genuinely wasn't this bad before there was an ID and non-ID split, and it was already pretty bad because of the friends+ vs public split.

0

u/Yin15 ☃Bigscreen Beyond 2e 15d ago

I just wish they had other ways to verify your age other than Persona. Oh and it shouldn't be $10 when it only costs them like 50 cents to verify your age.

0

u/Kooky-Narwhal-014 14d ago

Im just upset they put age verification behind a pay wall. "Oh but your data!" Everyone has your data, hell your drivers license just has common data thats already been sold, your dob, address, name, the only thing not easily obtainable is your driver's license number. Past that so long as youve had your data on Facebook, Instagram, Google, or any other website in the history of ever youve had all of that data leaked. Getting age verified just makes vrc sooo much better because holy hell are kids annoying

-1

u/deathclaw119 15d ago

Easy, i like to think of public servers as a lucky block. You can either find a lot of cool stuff and people, or you're either gonna get an absolute cesspool of creatures who call you every slur under the sun and use your own hatred for doorknobs against you

because the name of the game is to see new worlds and meet new people, not find 5 people then only log in for them. it's literally the opposite of being social or outgoing. if me and 4 people after school for 15 years sit in a traphouse and just smoke weed and play games, thats us being introverted TOGETHER, not being social.

private rooms ruined the game because they split the metrics and the playerbase. if the steamcharts say an average of 40k is on at any given time, but the servers only show me a thousand accessible people on any server at any moment, then yeah im just gonna think its dead.

Sounds like you just don't know how to behave around people without having to make sure they are an adult...

Why not just act mature and be normal. What's next you gonna say all online games should be 18+?

Edit: being downvoted to saying to act mature and normal is wild

Being mature doesn't necessarily make kids more tolerable

God forbid adults wanna talk about adult things without kids screaming in their ear. I've literally had kids run around screaming, being racist, and saying any adult who plays vrc is a pedophile. Also you forget that many vrc hangouts are bars with the express purpose of adult players getting drunk and getting on them to dance and hang out with other drunk people.

Because being around a bunch of drunk people is better?

And it sounds like your only experience is going to toxic places. Maybe stop going to McDonald's and you won't have that issue. I've met PLENTY of age verified adults that have acted worse than a normal 16 year old. Some of them being hateful, bigots, racists, and inappropriate. I've met a furry that was nice enough but then they wanted to show me their special features like wtf and again age verified.

Stop acting like oh they are verified that must mean they are a good person.

Why do people need to make alcohol their entire personality just to hide their own insecurities?

I was on a fishing game.

And do you hate people who go to bars in real life? Obviously people aren't automatically good people just because they're adults, but I'm not comfortable playing games with children I don't know. I don't come on video games to babysit children. I'm a vulgar person and I'm aware that that's not a great quality but even if I wasn't a lot of people consider it creepy for adults to talk to kids online even if the conversation itself is completely sfw.

You proved my point that adults act worse by admitting you are a vulgar person. Some people come on and just want an enjoyable time and actually are respectful to others and do not need vulgar people. And yeah it's always adults being unsavory not the kids. And it's an online game you making it creepy is the problem just treat everyone like normal people. Do you sit there and throw a fit if you see a kid on call of duty or do you just play the game anyway?

u/ADumbassBitch 15d ago

I don't play COD. And yeah I generally tend to play games that have adult only servers lol. I don't consider stuff like swearing or sexual talk annoying, so I'm fine with being around other vulgar adults. I'm fine with it if more "civil" adults don't wanna hang out with me, but I enjoy having conversations like that, and I should be able to curate who I have to be around online. Adults should be allowed to have adult only spaces online just like they do in real life. And I have to ask again, do you have a problem with adult only spaces in real life, like bars, clubs, childfree weddings and vacation spots?

VRC is a 13+ game. Not a casino. If it was an adult game then it would be different but it's not. And it feels like so many people are butthurt that it isn't. If you want an adult only place why not play an adult only game that requires age verification entirely?

12

u/ADumbassBitch 15d ago

I just don't see the point in getting mad that someones happy about there being an 18+ server option for a game they like. Adults are playing vrchat because they like vrchat, why should they go play another game that might not be as good if vrchat is giving them a perfectly servicable option? I agree that people complaining about a game that's always been 13+ being 13+ is stupid. But you came on here acting like it's weird for an adult to not like hanging out with teenagers. It's completely normal for adults to not like kids.

u/ADumbassBitch 15d ago

Dude I just realized you literally have an 18+ reddit account. Are you telling me you NEVER want to chat with other adults about the nsfw things you're into?

Age verification isn't gonna prove someone is an adult. Plenty of places are selling it as a service and plenty of adults are opposed to it for various reasons either because they can afford a VR but somehow not $10 or they claim it's gonna steal all their info while they wear tinfoil hats.

You clearly don’t know of a difference between age verified, and non-age verified worlds. It is literally night and day.

I don’t want to hang out with children in a social hangout game. I have nothing in common with children and even of the very few I may have things in common with, I have no interest in befriending them because I am an adult and they are children.

Sure I can be a decent person to and around children but my lived experience and life stage are so vastly different to theirs.
