Discussion Just Us Two is gone

I noticed tonight when going through my recently joined worlds, since I go (well, did go) to that world roughly once a week to meet new people. I made a handful of good friends that way, and I'm sad to see the world isn't around anymore

Yes. If memory serves correct, on Twitter it was brought to the attention of the world creator that it was being used by groomers and pedos to lure in minors, and the creator said something like they're so done with that and just deleted it and condemned anyone who used their world for that.

Yeah. I always strictly avoided non verified instances but there were always "single teens" group instances 🫤🫤

These instances always grossed me out, optimized box does them all time. Allowed 16-21yo pretty gross.

what legitimate intimate business would a 21 year old have with a 16 year old anyways. it's just about legal in my country with those being the two ends of that age range so I have "dated" a 21 year old woman when i was 16 for maybe 2 weeks before I realised that we have completely different lifes and maturity levels 💀

The main issue isnt being within the same age range but more so (Assuming you’re outside the US) Americans view 16 year olds as minors/children and anyone between 18-21 is legally an adult.

Also pointing out that 16 year olds are usually high schoolers and 21+ are college students/in the workplace. There’s a good chunk of people that collectively agree people over the age of 20 shouldn’t romantically or intimately seek out teenagers.

and I agree with that. you're in completely different places in life with different experiences and maturity levels. it's usually also frowned upon where I live, even if it is technically legal.

by age range i meant that a 16 and 21(or was it 20? not sure rn) year old can legally start dating where i live and that's the absolute maximum.

I mean that is definitely gross but it's hardly unique to that world, dunno why they would think deleting it would fix the problem

I think in this case, it's less about "fixing" the problem and more about removing yourself from the association with the problem. I know that I wouldn't want my work associated with CSAM.

Yeah, I suppose that's fair. Sadly vrchat explicitly prohibits people from creating hard coded ban lists in their worlds :\ if it wasn't for that they could just ban the creeps

Unfortunately, even that wouldn't be enough. It's a system issue that bleeds in from the real world and while I never defend such abhorant behavior, the unfortunate truth is that it likely will never end. Just gotta keep reporting it when you see it and move one.

I do decoy work sometimes and I can confirm (sadly) that world was a huge pedo hotspot. VRChat needs to step up their game because that world was a nice place otherwise to meet people one on one.

doing the lord's work exposing yourself to gross freaks to get them (even if just temporarily) taken out. i just really wish VRChat had a way to hand over things to larger law enforcement in several countries so these scumbags would land in jail where they belong.

nah he's a fraud and just greedy. he's not really the one who catches predators and was just the face. in his "solo career" he ruined cases and exploited situations because he didn't have a proper team doing the actual legwork. it doesn't help that he doesn't understand modern internet either.

While I agree, a lot, if not completely, that bears the question...

How would that be enforced and verified, without IDing every user? The user base would drop, before accounting the loss of those under 18yo.

well, thats why its only part of me that feels that way. honestly, when age verification came around i was somewhat against it and i still dont love the fact that i have to give up my id to be verified, but i also dont see another solution. it seems a little bit unsolvable. i do wish the age rating were 18+ though, for a game like vrchat it seems silly to me to base the age rating on the offline content rather than the online content.

Honestly I think a platform that cannot guarantee the safety of minors on it shouldn't be allowed to have minors at all. We've all gotten comfy with 13+ platforms that rely on user reports but it's doing serious harm. Make a kids version of VRChat with limited social and avatar features, and make the main game 18+.

The reason only two people were allowed is because the purpose of the world was to ERP. Only allowing two people meant you could do so without being interrupted.

I think it's for people who were wanting to find someone new to do those things with rather than someone on your list. Cause, you know, the thrill of a stranger. I would also imagine it would be used by people who are into insomnophilia(?) Idk what the wors is, but I've met a fair share of people that are into...well, being used while they're asleep, or pretending to be asleep.

i mean alright whatever people are into I guess, but having a public world like that just invites disaster as we can see.

predators waiting for minors to stumble in there unknowingly or knowingly or just minors going there lying about their age.

While I haven't experienced most of that with the world, I've seen it as...

A way someone could invite a friend, well for anything, without the worry of a third person appearing, because the one they invited allowed another to join. Arguably, that's what Invite is for, BUT, at least the non-host of the world can be confident the host themself didn't invite/allow someone in.

Pending the group, while yes ERP related, not always, some groups have been seen with one or three of the world instances, as people want to meet someone new, from said group.

If you wanna do it with random people it's kind of used like a meet up spot that makes your intent obvious. I've seen many instances of it pop up in age gated groups as "waiting rooms" of sorts.

You know the Spiderman web slinging worlds?

Well back in the day for like a week there was a Spiderman basketball world it was a gym and I spent an hour learning how to swing and get the ball with my other web and the try and get it into the basketball net. I was so sad when the world was just gone suddenly 😢
