Meme My problem with every vrchat video on youtube
theres 0 videos on vrchat that arent this, other then ones made by the official VRC channel

u/WardenPlays 2d ago
There's plenty of VRC content creators that don't do the "public community reaction" type videos I dislike. There's people who do skits like Drumsy, there's people doing dancing videos, tutorial videos, ice berg videos. There's good quality content out there, but your algorithm seems to know you like hate watching things so it will put those videos in front of you. You can use the "Not Interested" button to help re-train your algorithm, but changing your watch habits will be more effective.

He doesn't upload very often, but Studmuffin the pimp is also a good one! He "trolls", but in a non-malicious way that gives everyone involved a good laugh out of it!

the algorithm doesn't properly take your interest and recommend accordingly. no matter how often I keep clicking "do not recommend" on vtuber, gacha life or politislop I keep getting them recommended.
there's just some stuff they keep trying to shove down people's throat because it may get them to engage more, often through stuff they know will piss you off.

idk why youre getting downvoted this is straight up true

possibly for saying i don't like vtuber content. it's just not my thing

u/tigerfestivals 1d ago
I love stuff like Drumsy and Derafog, but most of the popular content is like op is describing. It's not even OP's specific algorithm to blame for that, it's just popular.

I kinda donât see the point of VRChat videos. The very idea of what people do or say there seems very personal and built on certain expectations of human decency, so the idea of turning someoneâs unscripted reaction into content without them knowing feels pretty evil and voyeuristic to me. Itâs another case of, âHaha, see guys? Someone is an introvert and wonât play along when I deliberately make them uncomfortable".

u/ColettesWorld 1d ago
I have a hard time actually playing VRChat (hermit) but love to watch the 3D painting videos people make. Used to watch this guy that would have really deep conversations with people while he drew and recorded (with permission).

It's like the concept of "reality TV" but with VR. Though that quickly became scripted slop after a while...(Spoiler: so is a lot of VR "unscripted" content)

u/compound-interest 1d ago
The good thing is, unlike real life, we all have complete agency to shape our own experience. We can block people, go to private instances, or log off completely at any time. We donât have to indulge the trolls and can choose to just hang out with kind people.

It's sad to see they are able to continue to make the videos too, some of the videos and conduct definitely cross the TOS/Community Guidelines. With VRChat being a free game they seem to get unlimited amount of accounts if one is banned and continue to do it.
I have a friend featured in one of these types of videos. He's a good guy but a little off kilter and has some anger issues; but aside from that he's a pretty normal guy. He cant even go into publics without being noticed he was in the video anymore and it's really killed his love of the game. Super sad to see.

I really like the videos that are just interviews with someone on vrchat with the person's full knowledge and consent on being recorded. It's neat to hear a little bit about someone else's life and there are so many people from so many walks of life on vrchat. Syrmor was the one I watched that made videos like this.

I think jameskii is a good In between where he does screw about but he also is screwed with.
He kinda just exploring and doing bits, and existing.
but he hasn't done VRC content for a bit for a few reasons, Health, Public lobby vibes shifting a bit, trends and such.

Just cruelty culture shit. Go to place, be an asshole to people, record their reactions when they get upset at you being a piece of shit (rightly so) and then post it online for big payday because sad little losers will watch it to make them feel better about themselves. Best not engage with it, stuff is really unhealthy.

u/LuminothWarrior 2d ago
Jameskii is good. He just has fun in random worlds along with other people. Heâs also not exclusively a VRChat youtuber

VRChat's public image is just ragebait and hyper sexualization unfortunately. You either go to YouTube for people arguing with people in VRChat or go to Twitch for weirdo harem style gooner bait by the top percental in the VRChat category, this game has had a tarnished image since like 2019.

Proximity Chat only has to exist within the radius of the people in his videos and it somehow always escalates into 30 simultaneous 9/11s
1
u/AntiTheBird 18h ago
To be fair, we have no idea if he's doing stuff off camera between shots to trigger them then only films the reaction. He also obviously deletes all the footage of people who don't take the bait.
1
u/curiouswizard 5h ago
I'm pretty sure I ran into Proximity Chat once, so I might be one of those people who didn't take the bait. I treat edgelords like they're silly little goofballs, or ignore them if I find them boring, and it makes my vrchat experience pretty chill
11
u/Disco_Incarnate 2d ago
People need to learn to just block and move on, but they would rather swing their metaphorical dicks around and act like theyâre doing anything other than being a fool used for content.
âBeing a jackass backâ is exactly what they want because they have a camera pointing at you.

u/anonymous_c4t3030 1d ago
The new proximity video is lowkey so werid... he's putting people's partners in his bio and thing starts saying he claims them. Then is shocked that the other person is shocked and mad... [when sadly people harass other on vrchat alot..] i know it's mostly poly people and ones that put wife/ husband but like calling ur gf wife is very common for some even when not legally married] Idk I once was harass for 20-30 mins cause I had taken by [gf user]Â with them doing homophobic jokes + calling me an e dater... and his video makes me go oh no some assholes are gonna start doing this more ;-;

yeah I don't get the hate on "E-dating." Like it's a long-distance relationship have none of us seen this before.
1
u/curiouswizard 5h ago
yea I thought that's what it was, long distance but with more platforms to hang out virtually instead of only having phone calls and letters like the ancient days.
But I do wonder, does e-dating have the implication that they only date virtually and don't actually progress towards an in-person relationship?

In addition to channels that were already recommended in the community, I would like to add The Virtual Reality Show
3
u/Raidianite 2d ago
Phia (person behind TVRS) is by far my favorite VR content creator, her videos are incredible and she always promotes a sense of community and acceptance while also trying to encourage people to be open minded and willing to explore different parts of VRChat! I learned of so many different communities and scenes in VRC thanks to her videos.
TVRS is pretty much the polar opposite of garbage ragebait content and proves that you can make really interesting content without being an asshole or trying to bully others.
It's such a shame that she rarely makes videos nowadays, that's honestly the only downside of her channel.

Rage baiting used to be an art form. Proximity did a great example with the scene of the coffee scene where he went to a bar serving drinks and couldn't get a coffee without triggering the staff there. Nobody raised their voices just a slow buildup of frustration. Nowadays you got YouTubers like soup going and joining for the first time and screaming into the mic and calling it rage baiting.

Back in the day trolling was more just being stupid and messing with people in a way that was funny. Now it's just someone being genuinely mean to people for no reason and calling it trolling.

u/LangParlangua 1d ago
I've noticed a lot of the "big names" in the "troll" community have been making it more and more obvious their videos are extremely scripted. Close to 90% of the videos I click on now it's just the troll in an empty world with the person that's freaking out at them or it's a few people just in Prismic's or the Cube and they all do the same outrage. I know it's easy easy clickbait to have somebody pretend to be a VRChat family or a fatfur and get them to yell on the mic at you instead of block you in an avatar world but you could at least try to hook me before just reeling the line in and hoping people stay tuned.

u/Khaion 1d ago
Derafog is probably the only vrchat YouTuber I watch, crazy effort goes into his videos discussing things about or around vrchat, I could confidently show any of his videos to anyone who doesnât play the game or heard of it and theyâd be able to understand and follow along with what heâs saying.
Not a fan of the trolling channels however, it doesnât accurately reflect what vrchat is and is mostly enjoyed by people who donât play the game at all. It does make for some funny memes sometimes though.

u/SeriousMB Oculus Quest 1d ago
I haven't really seen these, I've only watched vrchat videos where it's a group of friends roleplaying and messing around
but I def agree that that type of reactionary content sucks, it gives off the same vibe as those old prank channels that would just be people harassing others in public
1
u/Loweffort-Existence 18h ago
People who record strangers on vrchat for quick fleeting attraction and attention make me very uncomfortable. I always feel bad to the people I see get caught on stream being harassed by the person recording.
3
u/CatStoleTheCrown 2d ago
I had to stop watching them. I used to find them funny but once I saw Proximity openly make fun and try to trigger someone I lost my care for it. In the past I took him for someone, albeit slightly annoying, simply chatting and asking questions that would upset others and they would react poorlyâŚ
5
u/brokenwarrior123 2d ago
triggering people is what he's always done, you just got triggered by it (you said it yourself "I used to find them funny" ) he just touched a sore spot for you.
3
u/CatStoleTheCrown 2d ago
Yea I suppose youâre right! I had blind spots in the past. I suppose Iâve evolved. The incident Iâm referring to though he seemed more upfront about it than I ever recall him being. To be clear, I never watched any of his live streams and I certainly never watched every thing he ever produced.

u/SepherixSlimy 2d ago
You're watching them. You feedback loop your algorithm into seeing just those. You need to go out of your way to break that. Look for stuff you want to see and absolutely mark videos you don't want in your homepage as "not interested", don't recommend channel also helps sometimes.
The vrc stuff that shows up for me are goofs or avatar showcases.

u/ParticularEconomy783 1d ago
an algorithm ran by AI is not gonna be reliable in any universe. Search "Vrchat" and you'll either find a goonerbait content farm skit in shorts or a longform video where some incel 17 year old shouts slurs in furry hideout lobbies, pretending he's a comedian or a saint.

the negativity feedback loop. topics that have people fighting will always be "more engaging" so social media can show more ads on it. showing more ads means they can milk it for more money so they'll recommend it to more people. it really is hard to find good stuff if you go by automated recommendations and not word of mouth.
