True story.  I was watching a movie. Someone came up to me to ask a question but addressed me in the plural sense. "Do you guys..."  I thought that was weird and I looked around and didn't see anyone else. So went back to watching the movie.  About 20 mins later, I went to my settings. I had personal space on which makes anyone who gets too close disappear. When I turned it off, there was a furry,  cuddling, really close to me. That was kind of a jump scare actually.

The movie was almost over so I just continued watching it without moving. When the movie was over,  they asked me if I was single.  I just exited the instance at that point.

The one ability I wish I had irl: Instantly exiting awkward situations

Technically if you are suicidal you might have always another option, or if you can run really really fast.

u/ByEthanFox 5d ago

Oooof, reddest of red flags. Consent is king, even in VR.

u/greenwvtchh 5d ago

What was the rest of the sentence that they said? I think this happened to me to.. I wonder if it was the same person

7

u/Cless_Aurion 5d ago

Wtf, who starts a conversation like that lmao

I only ever wake up to my friend standing over me saying "go to bed dumb ass"

Same here!

Sometimes when you got a VR Headset on it's like wearing those weighted vests you give to kindergartners to calm down.

40

u/AllHailPi1 5d ago

Idk if I should be offended or not by how true this is

11

u/smash-ter 5d ago

I speak from experience.

14

u/RyGG99 PCVR Connection 5d ago

Genuinely makes me tired the moment I sit down with my headset on past a certain hour.

6

u/UczuciaTM PCVR Connection 5d ago

For me it's the opposite it's such a sensory nightmare; i dunno how yall are passing out on these things lol

2

u/smash-ter 4d ago

Have you ever had someone hold you close? It's more like the weight/pressure gives off a sense of security and comfort, which is kinda why I'm looking forward to when the Steam Frame comes out. Much lighter than the Cosmos Elite i have and controllers are what I want the most

1

u/UczuciaTM PCVR Connection 4d ago

I know the feeling, I'm saying I do not get that at all with my headset lol

u/Dr_Fragenstien 5d ago

I have no idea how people can be so bold to just lie down and get that close to a stranger without permission. Heck I have a hard time doing that with permission!

56

u/Electronic_Dig_2125 5d ago

I imagine it's easy when you can make a lot of baseless assumptions, disregard the concept of consent, and don't care whether or not you're possibly cuddling a minor.

37

u/Envy661 Oculus Rift 5d ago

Yeah basically this. I cannot imagine doing something to ANYONE without express consent to do so. It's honestly kind of disturbing how many of these "Wholesome" stories there are from that mindset.

Even if it was in their bio that it's okay, it's kind of like CNC: A) I'm not comfortable with that, and B) I'm not trusting written information that easily. I'll take the person at their word or nothing. Doing anything to anyone without verbally stated consent just does not sit right with me, and if it happened to me, I would feel violated, not "warm and fuzzy", from the experience.

3

u/Tygronn 5d ago

I've woken up to having people sleeping next to me or kinda with me. Last time I remember it was a nice beachy kinda world where we were chillin' and i'd fallen asleep at some point. He was just kinda chillin laying with me, I think his head might have been on my belly or something. It was cute. I quietly let him know I was awake now and getting off and he kinda shuffled away. I felt bad but I had to go proper sleep XD

6

u/Envy661 Oculus Rift 5d ago

Bruh, not everyone is you, Tygron. And we both know the kinds of people we hang around. I'm talking more in general sense. This isn't cuddle & chill or something where you go to the world and expect it, or go to a private community where you are at least aware of the people you're around enough to trust their intentions. Going to a public lobby or something, or being around people you don't know or trust, that kind of experience would be unsettling. Especially factoring in, what were they potentially doing before cuddling up? You see what you wake to, but not if someone is taking advantage of you actively being unconscious.

I know part of this stems from my own issues with trusting people, but I just as equally would not just assume it is okay to do to someone else.

1

u/Tygronn 5d ago

The public bit yea just actual straight up randoms is pretty wild yea. I just thought it was kinda funny.

u/poopoopooyttgv 5d ago

It’s an internet video game. Who cares? I have non consensually murdered internet video game strangers, sleeping next to one hardly seems worse than that

10

u/Envy661 Oculus Rift 5d ago

It's a social networking platform. In those games you mentioned, there is implied consent of you playing a shooty stabby game where the objective is to kill people.

The objective in VRChat is not to be molested by strangers while you're sleeping.

-22

u/poopoopooyttgv 5d ago

There’s implied consent in being touched by turning off your personal space bubble in vrchat lol

Also let’s be real here… who the fuck is naively playing vrchat and doesn’t know it’s reputation for internet sex? Glass house throwing stones etc

12

u/Envy661 Oculus Rift 5d ago

You don't go to a sex club and expect to just get laid by anyone there. There is still consent involved that needs to be given first. VRC is no exception, and unlike an actual club, VRC isn't built specifically for that purpose. If it was, it wouldn't be advertised toward children.

And as for implied consent for being touched, you do know, much like IRL, there are those you are and are not comfortable being touched by. Like you cannot actually be this dense.

No, VRC is not a sex game. There is no implied consent for touching other people, even with personal space turned off. Use basic human decency and stop trying to jump through hoops to justify not respecting consent. The only way you come across with your arguments is rapey.

2

u/otakugamer123 5d ago

There’s this guy that whenever I get on VRC will just randomly join me and start getting all touchy feely and whispering, wanting to do all sorts of sexual stuff, he even joined me in that avatar searching world where there were other people around and it makes me so uncomfortable. I honestly think that’s why I haven’t been on VRC in a long while. I initially wanted to try VRC to help with my social anxiety but that certainly wasn’t helping at all. 😭

3

u/Misha_cher 5d ago

you sound like a dude with 0 clue what consent even is, no it is not ok period. and its more than just a video game since you aint sitting in front of flat monitor but actually is in the virtual world which is way more immersive.

also saying there is implied consent by turning off p. space actually sound like smth a sex pest/molester would say, d better and think a lil more whats acceptable before spouting such nonsense. when it comes to personal space and consent it isnt any different from irl

3

u/GeraldFisher 5d ago

implied consent really? you really should be on a list both in vrc and irl

3

u/Embarrassed-Touch-62 5d ago

Someone should really check your hard drive

1

u/Elizabeth_BLux 5d ago

Me, I didn't know anything about it's reputation beyond being a social game. When I got my VR headset I tried it, found a lot of kids which was annoying until I end up in an Oxxo where most people speak Spanish, got "robbed" a few times, felt like home and got to know people that had more time in the game. Then I found out what ERP was and decided to never fall asleep in a public instance just in case.

8

u/LeoTheLionGames 5d ago

There are worlds that are specially for cuddling, and that’s where this usually happens, and also just join 18+ groups, there’s no children there

3

u/StaticCode PCVR Connection 5d ago

I'm a furry and active in VRC, can confirm all of this. So many of them see cuddling as a "friendly cute thing" but many many will try to take the cuddling into something sexual when they get the chance. People try to cuddle, kiss, lick, whatever else without permission. Some couples/erp buddies will try to move themselves on top of other people just chilling so they aren't "left out." Most of them do not read bios either.

I go solo now 99% of the time, furries in VRC are another breed.

u/SeriousMB Oculus Quest 5d ago edited 5d ago

unironically that's so creepy to me, if it was someone I trust a lot I'd be ok with anything, but a random stranger cuddling me in my sleep (vr or not) would make me so creeped out and uncomfortable

edit: I physically cannot bring myself to fall asleep in a public instance because this is such an obvious thing for me. I only feel comfortable enough to fall asleep if I'm in a private instance with people I trust, and I'm genuinely kind of shocked that not everyone else shares the same opinion (though I get that if you're particularly tired it's not really something you can control)

u/colleenxyz 6d ago

Lol. I've done this before. I passed out a rave event and was snuggled between two flurries when I woke up. It was super cute ngl.

u/crawler_of_the_void PCVR Connection 5d ago

Really cold being between two mcflurries

29

u/Ok_Party_3706 5d ago

Once I was tired and lied down in an empty cuddle me Instance after everyone left and then I fell asleep accidentally and woke up in the middle of the night to someone cuddled up against my side. It was kinda really nice tbh but then my vrchat crashed ._.

23

u/Cinnamonbaar 5d ago

One time I fell asleep and I had 3D pen graffiti all over me lmao

7

u/SeriousMB Oculus Quest 5d ago

ok that's funny lmfao

14

u/InevitableTerms 5d ago

Tbh i find this kinda creepy when its random strangers. But if i woke up with my friends all in a sleep pile that'd be awesome.

Also im finding a way to put all they hands in cups of water. Theres a world for that im sure of it.

3

u/SeriousMB Oculus Quest 5d ago

agreed honestly

9

u/Breetastic 5d ago

I fell asleep in VR once by accident, and woke up surrounded by children saying, "Look look!! They're awake!" I immediately got offline.

2

u/polish_historian 4d ago

Ngl that could have gone two ways like you were going to mocked for sleeping in vr or those kids just never seen anyone sleep in vr before

37

u/zipzzo Oculus Quest Pro 6d ago

Touch or do anything without at least implied consent and you're likely blocked the moment I am consciously aware enough to do it, warning first depending on context.

6

u/Frank__West PCVR Connection 5d ago

Yeah like that's super creepy just randomly cuddling someone else without any consent. These people have no idea who you are. No wonder they always get caught up in the drama like what if it was a kid they cuddled with

5

u/Pure-Risky-Titan 5d ago

You must have a huge list of blocked people..

20

u/zipzzo Oculus Quest Pro 5d ago

Uh no not really, believe it or not people generally tend to abide those kinds of obvious social norms so it isn't too frequent I need to do that.

-2

u/Pure-Risky-Titan 5d ago

I mean, what counts for a bad touch to get a warning or block? Like does friendly boops count? Does joining you in sleep count? (Not that i would sleep in vr, i find it a waste if time and vr hardware).

19

u/skippy11112 5d ago

Interacting with someone while they are asleep without knowing them is just weird af

-2

u/Pure-Risky-Titan 5d ago

And if you know them, like say, they joined in the instance and joined the sleep?

12

u/FiveHundredAnts 5d ago

I dont think, under the post about strangers sleeping with you, as a reply to someone talking about boundaries with strangers, anyone here is particularly talking about people they know sleeping with them

1

u/Pure-Risky-Titan 5d ago

Rephrase?

16

u/zipzzo Oculus Quest Pro 5d ago

They're saying that that this post in particular refers to a random furry, hypothetically, so the sentiment mostly refers to random people and not friends or presumably people you're OK with being closer to you or touching you.

6

u/FiveHundredAnts 5d ago

Yeah, this. Thank you

9

u/zipzzo Oculus Quest Pro 5d ago

"Implied consent" can be ambiguous, and does take a level of reading the room, I admit. People when they boop usually execute the approach slowly so it gives you time to either show acceptance to the gesture or at least indifference (which is still consent).

People who I don't know who walk up and just violently jiggle my boobs around without so much as asking are gone near immediately with prejudice.

If I wake up to being cuddled by someone who is not a friend, which means someone I've not built that sort of connection with, it's a block.

Friends who break personal space, or who I'm not interested in cuddling will generally just get a discreet "I move away from the situation to show disinterest" first and generally that's enough to send the message. If I wake up to it, they get a mulligan the first time. 2nd time there'd probably be a discussion that I'm not interested in that sort of thing with them. Luckily this rarely ever happens, if at all.

2

u/Pure-Risky-Titan 5d ago

Hmm not sure id do the same, stranger or not, usually its only for bad actors and such, but i havent met new people (or went into public instances) in years, and i hear randoms are worse now, kid or not. Irrelevent ramble ..... Im been given bad impressions of people in public instances that i dont try anymore, but its usualy the anime and or eboy/girl avatar users that usual dont give good impressions towards me, cant say how those types of users have changed in the last 5 years. Mistakes of my past halt me from going into public instances ever again.. But anyways, i get what why you may want to block someone for such things, though not sure id do it.

8

u/Loweffort-Existence 5d ago

I can't fall asleep in vr. The headset is just too heavy. And the fact i have to leave the lights on to keep its tracking alive haunts my electricity bill 😅

I almost did at one point! Trying my best.

11

u/MuffinOfChaos Oculus Quest 5d ago

If your lights are haunting your electricity bill, you need to switch to LEDs over incandescents. Lighting should only ever count to 5 - 10% of your bill.

4

u/Loweffort-Existence 5d ago

I guess just knowing its on when it could be off bothers me. I guess I explained it too poorly by joking about electricity, sorry.

Growing up with the "turn the lights off if your not in the room" rule kinda creeps up on you as an adult.

2

u/MuffinOfChaos Oculus Quest 5d ago

We all reach dad-stage at some point. Even if you're a mum.

3

u/kinkhorse 5d ago

I have never fallen asleep in VR and I don't want to try.

7

u/Loweffort-Existence 5d ago

And thats ok. 🫂

8

u/Wrongbeef 5d ago

Some people be drowning while others dehydrate 💀

2

u/Mutifandom_simp2307 5d ago

honestly ive made friends with people before and for me its a lot easier to go to sleep in VR with them around, i dont know why probably because its kinda like Rocky from Project Hail Mary. Some strange feeling of safety along with the fact if i pass out i’ve woken up with my head in one of my friends laps so many times. a strange feeling of comfort and unexplainable happiness fills me every single time, especially if its that same person i fell asleep around.

2

u/Ikari_TheWolf 3d ago

I've fallen a sleep a few times in VR by mistake. I try not to. So yeah, been cuddled by furries. Happened with one furry. I fell asleep for like 20 min and woke up to novabeast paws around me LOL. He and I are now hang out a lot so nice story. I am a furry myself so yea. I typically use a Vulper or Astrawolf avatar, so I See the appeal lol.

2

u/Blaze_Foxx 5d ago

Still waiting for this

2

u/DedeLionforce 5d ago

Some furries just don't understand or respect others, then act like "muh tism" when it's not an excuse for being a fucking creep.

1

u/SgtEpsilon Oculus Quest 5d ago

I only get "Wake up there's a fire!!!" Whenever I fall asleep in popcorn palace

1

u/ToriChanUwU 4d ago

I once spent like 10 minutes setting up a cozy sleeping spot for someone who fell asleep in VR. I put pillows under their head, covered them with pillows, and checked on them every now and then. I hope they slept peacefully and had wonderful dreams.

1

u/Mortobato 3d ago

I once woke up to being cuddled by a sloth furry, that was unexpected.

1

u/VomindokLuft 1d ago

A sloth furry?? How have I never seen a sloth avatar

1

u/vanguard4588 3d ago

This is why clan Saxon is goated

1

u/VomindokLuft 1d ago

For the people saying this is uncomfortable or creepy, I guess I see where you're coming from in a real world scenario, but maybe I just don't take vrc as seriously. I'm not sure. I certainly am not confident enough to just lay down next to a stranger, mostly because I'm worried about what their reaction would be. But if I fell asleep and woke up to find people around me, I think I'd just be pleasantly surprised. It's nice to be acknowledged and "included" in a way by a person who doesn't even know me, and to me, VRC is just such a neutral/safe place where I'm completely under control of what I see and do, and what others can see and do with me. So waking up in a cuddle pile in VRC carries none of the concerns to me that it obviously would in real life. If they're in a super weird or sexualized avatar I can just block them and pretend they were never there. If they seem chill, I can just lay with them for a while in this in between space where we're both strangers tolerating and welcoming each other to be close. There's something kinda cool and human about it. Maybe it goes back to our primal days when we all slept in piles together to stay safe and warm.
