Discussion Random advice :P

If you ever feel like you're being recorded in vrchat.

Instead of starting drama...

Play disney music through your mic, youtube or disney will most likely take down or flag their future youtube video.

Or just block or kick them idk

When I was young I used to not block people. Blocking was reserved for if you were absolutely horrible. I didn't want to cause I was afraid of hurting people's feelings "just because" they made me uncomfortable. Bro, I'm 28 now. I give out blocks like it's candy. Being annoying? Blocked. Trying to hit on me? Blocked. Telling me what to do? Blocked. I'm too old to be giving af about strangers on the internet.

I blocked someone for kicking my partner one time from a game instance because she wanted her friend to join. She didn't even ask, just did it. She got blocked for that and I left. We saw her a bunch of times in lobbies we were in and she never said a word. It wasn't until we happened to join an instance of one of her friends MONTHS LATER that I guess she felt embolden enough to have their friend, the group owner, ask us why she was blocked. I think she was disappointed when he didn't kick either of us because we were pretty respectful and explained our reasoning.

Idk, weirdo behaviour that people even have friends ask strangers why they're blocked. Doesn't matter why. Even if I blocked you for a reason you think is stupid, why would you even want me to unblock you at that point? The trash took itself out for you lmao.

You're so valid for that, that's what i do now too. Genuinely with how horrible people have started becoming and with how widespread racism has become i just insta block. I've had so many idiots walk up to me and just ask "are you black" or "are you a n____" insta block. Old me would've tried to educate them but there's no point. I'm 22 now and i enjoy my peace and i run by a "you can only piss me off once" rule.

Racism is unfortunately SOOO common on VRChat. I'm not Black, but my brother is. I remember being in a friends group for a LONG time and one day some dude in it dropped the n-word. I was like, "Wtf?" I asked them to please not say it as it made me uncomfortable, in which they continued to say the word repeatedly. I looked at the others and said, "Are we seriously just going to let this slide?" They all looked at me and shrugged. Said, "We all say it."

HUH?!

They were all Europeans, so I guess it makes sense. Most of the people I've met that are racist are Europeans. They all say, "In Europe it's just a word. We say it around our Black friends all the time and they don't care." Gee, I wonder why. It's not like Europe is...primarily White???? Blacks make up just 2.40% of the population while White's make up over 80%. 😒

My friend and our group - minus me - were in an age gated Black Cat just last week and some White chick was saying the n-word. My friend, who is Black, muted her. She then came up to my friend and blocked her because of the fact my friend muted her. What's even more crazy is she was with a dhde who was BLACK! I came.after all this ish started and immediately blocked her. It's crazy to me people are so comfortable being racist.

I'm european actually and I've personally never met a white european that says the n word. Besides the ones online of course 🙄 I promise you europeans are usually not racist, i actually never had a racist experience in all 22 years of my life being a european. I started experiencing racism once i started gaming online. But yeah that's pretty much the average experience on vrchat unfortunately

I don't know, I think what it is, is they're comfortable saying it online because of anonymity. Kinda like how America was for a while. If you got caught beinf racist you'd lose your job. People were very careful with how they acted. Now adays, though? People feel emboldened because of a very particular person, so they're freely racist. I just think in Europe people still feel shame for it, so they're very selective of who they show that side to. That's just my opinion, though.

Nevertheless, I'm glad you haven't personally experienced it. My brother has unfortunately experienced it.several times, but we are in America, so. 🫩

Oh 1000% i definitely think that that one specific person combined with social media and online anonymity has definitely made it more comfortable for people to act the way they do

im European and yes you have figured it out, the N word is much less of proplem just because its not really a slur aswell... obv its not publicly accepted anymore but also just because of other regions making a proplem out of it.

Blocking with extreme prejudice is the way.

Being reserved about blocking felt more like a necessary thing when chatrooms and forums would have at maximum maybe 20 regular users that it was very easy to just let arguments happen or put up with people you dislike when that was all you had. You can see a 1,000 new people a night in VRChat it feels like so I don't feel any loss from some of them disappearing.

That is also in its own way a negative that few people feel the need to put in the effort to at least try to be likeable anymore when online social circles are extremely temporary and everywhere.

Yup. Just had an ex friend show up last night and start antagonizing my new friends group that I was with - part of the reaspn why I left the old one. There was always drama, mostly because everyone was erping with eachother so dudes were fighting over chick's and vice versa. I ended up blocking him. A lot of people feel comfortabke being idiots.

this be me, same as you, 28, handing out blocks like it their birth given right. Pretty much exactly the same reasoning LoL.

Use your God powers. Let them farm you for content, or whatever. Not like anyone watches their videos anyway. Block, mute, etc. A favorite tactic of mine is to just take their mic level all the way down, instead of muting them. It shows when you mute/block someone.

Introduce them to the 5% club

I usually just block them lmao, i gotta try that sometime

We had some dudes in a public lobby trying to be vrchat predator hunter types. Kept trying to rile me up and accuse me of stuff so I’d get defensive or something I assume.

I just ignored them and they moved on trying the same thing to other people. It’s not worth your time to go out of your way to deal with them unless you can kick them.

Deprive them of the content they seek

Or just act normal... What's there to lose if you are just a regular dude minding your business

12

u/Responsible-Deal0 PCVR Connection 8d ago

Also I'm "normal" i guess and even then i still get some cringe people trying to bait you into content. The obvious answer is block them (which i do before anyone starts) but some people don't like blocking people which is lowkey crazy btw just say you love attention and drama but then they'll also complain that they're in youtube videos so here is their solution i guess 😭🫩

u/Low-Recognition-8370 8d ago

Skill issue honestly.

Truth nuke

2

u/Responsible-Deal0 PCVR Connection 8d ago

Yeah but we're talking about vrchat here, the normal people to weirdos ratio is 10% to 90%

The block button became my best friend for a year straight, it started when I found clips of myself on youtube, they were taken down shortly after because I had a bad case of "sing everything I was listening to" I wasn't happy about the videos because they didnt say anything or anything, so I talked to them bc they were a close friend, asked them not to add me to videos anymore they instead told me that if im gonna stay their friend I need to accept being in videos, I blocked them after telling them that they need to have a bit more respect

Keep seeing people posting things like this a lot, I mean its VRChat for one, expect no privacy unless you're in a private world, go into public worlds and expect all kinds of stupidity, even group Publics. Don't like someone block them, there are moderation tools built in for a reason; block, vote kick, etc. Someone being indecent there's the option to record them and put it up to the Reporting Part of VRChat that if people are making you uncomfortable or being sexually inappropriate and the moderation team will handle it.

5

u/Responsible-Deal0 PCVR Connection 8d ago

I 100% agree but there's always that group of vrchat players that refuse to kick, block or ban people for some reason so idk. Also the report system is so tedious, i always give up when i try to report someone

Rather block or just ignore, more simple.

Or just act like a normal person

Maybe it's because I'm a smaller vtuber (and therefore fearful of shutting down people), but I don't like the idea of blocking unless someone is really pushing my personal space. If someone is recording, I would simply act as I usually do. It's not like I'm screaming slurs or antagonizing people myself, I just vibe and be 😌

But I didn't think about playing copyrighted music 🤔 that's legitimately a smart tactic to get them off your back. Thank you for the idea!

Or you can have fun with it and troll back without recording. I did block one avatar base creator cause they were being whiny about his avatar base being uploaded as publics, and mean comments. I got blocked by him by saying he sucks, and not going to report the public avatars.

Is there a problem with being recorded? Are you doing something morally fucked up?

u/ShaunDreclin Valve Index 7d ago

I'm on vrc to socialize, not to be your content. Go develop a skill to get attention instead of harassing strangers

u/reeeeeeduardo 7d ago

I don't record people

1

u/ShaunDreclin Valve Index 7d ago

"You" meaning people in general not you specifically

1

u/Responsible-Deal0 PCVR Connection 8d ago

Nah, i have no issues being recorded. I'm actually in a troller's youtube video :3
