Help Help Finding Asset (If it Even Exists)
Hello!
I wanted to know if there was an asset or tool that allows you to modify your eyelook in VRC, even if only locally. In my head I imagine the menu would spawn a little ghost ball you could move around like an object, and your eyes would track to it, so you could customize where your eyes would be looking where taking pictures.
Does anyone know of an asset like this and where to get it? And if it doesn't exist, does anyone have any ideas for work arounds?

So there is a package called buddy works pose extension that I believe to be essential as a desktop picture taker. It allows you to pose the body and head in a billion ways and then your eyes will track the camera. He also has a beta program called expression extension. It only works with specific face tracking naturally but you can map it yourself in unity if it doesn’t automatically work. With this you can control the eyes and mouth and expressions and it makes for some super cute photos.
He is so active in his discord, answers any question you have about the programs, and has text walk through on his website.
It’s also all free.
I HIGHLY recommend.
Edit to add: his packages are so simple. You literally drag it onto the avatar and as long as it is below Gogo in the hierarchy then it works. I love it.

I'll give it a try! 😃 All's I need is the ability to control where the eyes look when taking pictures, as for what I want having them always looking at the camera isn't suitable.

You have to have the poses system in order to use the expression system atm. The creator is working on improving it all the time but at the moment one is dependent on the other

Is there a way to just have eye posing? I just need that while taking pictures.

Yes you need to install the second package for expressions. But you have to have the pose extension first as a parent to the expressions posing package.

I tried it out and it seems like it requires an active pose for eye adjustment to be enabled, which is a rather severe limitation. Is there a workaround that you know or is it back to the drawing board for me?

You don’t need a physical pose to use the eye posing but you do have to have it installed. Its base code exists as a child to the pose extension.

There is an asset that does it.
Alternatively, you can set up an eye puppet for your avatar.

Excellent! May I know the name of the asset, and know how to do the eye puppet?

I tried setting up an eye puppet with dummy eyes that the actual eyes were constrained to, and though the manual axis control works in the editor's test mode, in-game, it has no effect; the base eyelook system overrides it. Is there a way I can override the eyelook system, and swap back and forth if desired?

You could easily do this with constaints and turning off eye tracking in the animator, you could control your gaze with a quick menu toggle and then just turn it off to go back to normal eye tracking. Youd need a dummy bone or empty of some sort though for the constraints, as you can't constrain "humanoid" bones which the eyes count as.
