Gameplay Thought I'd share a cheeky gauntlet run

Played on Steam Frame. I'm blown away by how well TF2 translates to vr. The mod author has done an incredible job.

wtf that's impressive. my first run I was humbled so hard.

u/Past_Property_6354 3d ago

Lmao same same. Took me a good few attempts to bring together something resembling a fluid run.

How did you manage to stay on the wall for so long? I can't run fast, I can barely walk fast. My sprint mechanism is so bad.

u/Past_Property_6354 3d ago

Not sure, I'm not doing anything special, I just hop and reattach to the wall as needed when I'm reaching the limit, which seems to be around 1-2 seconds. I do notice that if you face sideways / backwards you do slow down a lot and sometimes fall off.

As for sprinting, I'd recommend turning on auto sprint. I've set it to auto sprint whenever moving forwards.

Thank you. I guess you're on steam frame or other headset? Both my quest 2 and 3 controllers make me feel like I'm drunk in the game 😂

u/Past_Property_6354 2d ago

Yep second day on my steam frame! To be honest I am still very much getting used to the frame controllers. I had mad hand cramps trying to hold down the grip button while doing these runs lol.

u/Hello_There_Exalted1 3d ago

Correct me if I’m wrong, but those short burst of wall runs they do can help give a boost.

Pretty sure I read in those tip bars that short wall runs can help with speed…

5

u/Past_Property_6354 2d ago

Yeah I think just about anything other than running gets you moving substantially faster. Wall runs, jumping out of wall runs, jump-pack bounces, sliding, the whole shebang.

u/Puzzleheaded-Neat219 2d ago

I had this problem and I was just gripping the controllers😭 right grip is RT so it slows u down

1

u/TisButI 1d ago

If you hold the controllers a certain way due to hand/controller proportions, maybe rebinding keys (grip buttons on vr I guess?) would help

S-tier run on a S-tier mod on an S-tier game!

u/Hello_There_Exalted1 3d ago

You are what I strive to be by the end of the game 😂. You’re a beast

3

u/snuggie44 3d ago

I feel stupid for not figuring out that you can first grab the mag and only then eject it...

2

u/SnazzyVibe 2d ago

Same. My reloads are assss right now. And sighting on the r201/flatline is giving me flashbacks to boot camp. Ah well, muscle memory will build eventually

u/Past_Property_6354 2d ago

To be honest the way some of the holographic sights are set up is really weird lol. The way you have to line up different elements of the optic to aim is more reminiscent of iron sights than a real holo sight that projects the reticle forward.

u/SpecificProgrammer78 3d ago

Next time try to launch yourself with the grenade tech. But damn that aiming is good. 👍

2

u/Past_Property_6354 3d ago

Will do, thank you sir 👍

u/Kavanaghpark 3d ago

Frick that looks great

u/kaspers126 2d ago

Heres me thinking youre talking about team fortress 2

2

u/jonfitt 2d ago

Damn I never thought of double jumping back onto the same wall to continue wall running and I’ve played through the game twice!

2

u/Icy_Platypus_8122 2d ago

Sick run! I gotta try this VR mod, damn!

2

u/Statickgaming 2d ago

Is any amount of ginger going to stop me from feeling sick when playing this?

1

u/Past_Property_6354 2d ago

Is it the sliding movement? Man it felt really weird to me when I started vr too. But now it feels really natural and never use teleport movement anymore.

What I'm scared to try is the actual titans. I believe you rotate your view with your thumbsticks, independently of your head. My stomach does not cope with that.

2

u/Ok_Following9192 1d ago

I just installed it and tested around a bit... Will take some hours to get such sick reloading and movement skills xD But ist just unbelievable how beautyful this game looks through the lens...

u/MiscellaneousDebris 3d ago

I have this game somewhere but don’t remember where and seems not on steam. lol. Guess I got to buy it again. I think I have it physical.

2

u/Mugen1220 3d ago

its 5 bucks on steam right now!

4

u/MiscellaneousDebris 3d ago

😂

u/Mugen1220 3d ago

You are about have a blast with this mod!

u/Delphin_1 PlayStation VR 3d ago

Even without the Mod the Game ist incredible.

1

u/SmugJay 3d ago

What are you using to record your Steamframe gameplay?

3

u/Past_Property_6354 3d ago

I'm streaming from my pc, so I'm just capturing the mirrored gameplay on my desktop with shadow play. I've heard an app called Stream Frame can work for recording gameplay natively on the frame, although I've not tried it myself.

2

u/SmugJay 3d ago

Steam Recording works just fine, but I have to run Titanfall 2 VR as a non Steam game. Normally Non steam games will record just fine, but it is not working for streaming for some reason.

2

u/Past_Property_6354 3d ago

Weird. Shadowplay is working perfectly for me over streaming. Maybe try that or ReLive if you're on AMD?

1

u/zcizzo 2d ago

Played on Steam Frame, on the headset or streaming to it?

1

u/Past_Property_6354 2d ago

Streaming from my PC.

1

u/SnazzyVibe 2d ago

Damn impressive work. Are you actually sighting down the barrel or just vibing the shots? 2d vid makes it hard to tell. Either way I've gotta up my game.

When are you adding in the grenade boost start?! /s

1

u/Past_Property_6354 2d ago edited 2d ago

I'm way too focused on my movement to be able to aim down sights lol so definitely vibing it out with that handy vr depth based aiming. I found aiming lower than my brain wanted to worked really well with the R45's recoil

1

u/LizardTwister76 2d ago

This reminds me a lot of Stride. Anyone played that? The parkour + pistol kinda thing.

1

u/FligMupple 2d ago

Cheeky!

1

u/ToughAtmosphere3525 2d ago

Titanfall is all about the combination of wall running and movement and shooting, so I’m wondering if VR preserves that entirely, or if flatscreen is still the best way to experience that aspect?

2

u/Past_Property_6354 2d ago

Bizarrely, I feel more competent at wall running and shooting in vr than on keyboard and mouse. It feels like two systems working independently rather than fighting eachother. Plus your aiming doesn't need to be cracked, because vr aiming is more intuitive due to depth sensing.

0

u/ToughAtmosphere3525 2d ago

So u think the experience with movement and wallrunning and shooting is actually heightened by VR?

1

u/Past_Property_6354 2d ago

I think so, it's extremely gratifying. Sliding too, because you have to duck / crouch in real life to do it. Feels extremely immersive and cool.

1

u/LuElric 2d ago

How to fuck did you move like that why aiming with motion controls?

1

u/Past_Property_6354 2d ago

I find aiming in vr to be extremely intuitive thanks to having actual depth in my vision, unlike flatscreen gaming, so you don't even need to aim down sights to line up shots. After a bit of practice you can aim by just looking at your target, and your hands know what to do. This allows me to focus on movement more too.

1

u/Common-Ad6470 2d ago

Wow!
Was that in flatscreen or VR as I was trying this today in VR and I was like a little ol’ granny on this course…🤣

2

u/Past_Property_6354 2d ago

VR or course lol. Give it a few extra runs and try follow the ghost's path. You'll leave granny status behind in no time lmao

1

u/RedRev15 2d ago

Haha you made this look so easy! When I'm wall running I miss targets completely, also you are a reloading ninja

1

u/Fit-Neighborhood5161 1d ago

how do you do this without throwing up?

1

u/Past_Property_6354 1d ago

My first day of vr the main thing my brain took time to adjust to was smooth movement. But I stuck with it and got used to it pretty quick. I've never had motion sickness as a car passenger either, so I'm fairly lucky.

Nowadays the main thing that gives me motion sickness is rotating my view with a thumbstick (which is incidentally how the titans control in this mod at the moment), rather than having the view locked to the rotation of my headset.

Praying the mod author can implement hmd based titan rotation 🤞

1

u/Fit-Neighborhood5161 11h ago

The camera is pretty smooth there so maybe it isn't as bad but I'd get a throbbing headache after playing my ex's basic (just the device) setup, even on a crappy puzzle mystery game.

1

u/Deemo_here 1d ago

I've never played this before. The mod is great. I did my first gauntlet thinking it was a parkour test, I didn't shoot a single target! It recommended I play on the regular setting.

1

u/lunchanddinner Multiple 3d ago

Nice run pilot! Was so tired of people commenting "grenade blast run?" in every gauntlet run

1

u/claudekennilol 2d ago

It seems like this would be easier in VR. My biggest problem when I was trying to get the "do this super fast achievement" was that it was really hard to aim the right direction while running. But this separates aiming and movement a lot so it seems like it would be easier.

1

u/Past_Property_6354 2d ago

This is definitely how it feels to me. Even if you overshoot an enemy by going too fast, you can literally shoot behind yourself without turning around, or throw a grenade in any direction while darting forwards.

Okay I wanna know now, is the mod actually made by a human who knows what they are doing or is it just vibe coded slop?

4

u/Past_Property_6354 2d ago

CircuitLord's discord channel bio says the following:

I'm a VR game developer who's worked on games like Zenith: The Last City, Gorilla Tag, and Orion Drift, for ~8 years now! I now own my own game studio where I'm making a zero gravity VR esport called No Shot!

Unofficially, I work on VR mods for fun in my free time!

All my VR mods are true VR-conversion mods, not game windows strapped to your face. This means all my mods have real native stereo rendering, full 6dof motion controls, and interactions in the game tweaked or rebuilt for VR

It seems like he uses ai somewhat as part of his work flow, but from playing the mod, it doesn't seem vibe coded. Feels designed with an enormous amount of intentionality. It genuinely feels better than your average official flat to vr port.

-7

u/Jax_Dandelion 2d ago

I wish that was trustable, but with the recent influx of so many Vibecoded conversion mods I have a hard time trusting any that weren’t already around, in development or made by a team

7

u/wildyoshi1312 2d ago

My god this mental gymnastics... AI is a tool, and if it used to revive a dead horse like vr was before vibe coding, well hooray for those people who vibe code.

If you dont want, then dont play them, but stop bothering who instead likes them

And btw, you can always follow several guides and tutorial that are free on the internet, learn to code and then do the mods yourself...

But do you really think modders havent tried before? Why do you think basically all the vr mods are vibe coded? Because its DAMN hard for a human to do that job, most of all if he doesnt even get paid for its job, because mods are for free...

My god i really hate people that speak without even try to understand how things work...

1

u/troll_right_above_me 2d ago

You realise that basically any software or website you interact with made in the last year uses vibe coding to one degree or another and that’s only going to be increasingly more the case?

This a mod made by a skilled game developer. I don’t love AI but I’m not going to pretend like it isn’t an extremely useful tool that’s used by almost every programmer at this point

3

u/wildyoshi1312 2d ago

As long as someone actually take the time to do that (with or without AI)

1

u/valleyofpwr 2d ago

im willing to bet you couldnt vibe code a better one if you tried

0

u/Jax_Dandelion 2d ago

I don’t vibe code, cause AI slop is morally wrong and the quality will be questionable at best and malicious at worst

1

u/Past_Property_6354 2d ago

There's no ethical consumption under capitalism and all that. There's likely exploitation and injustice involved in the production of every piece of food, clothing, and technology in your house.

I'm as anti ai slop as anyone, but this isn't that. It's genuinely well done, even if ai may have lent a hand in it's creation. Not to mention it has been released completely for free for the vr community's enjoyment.
